Wild pigs a nuisance for airport neighbors

An article from Fort Myers headlined "Pig problems: Wild hogs become nuisance," appeared in FLORIDA TODAY Nov. 14 describing a problem that also occurs locally.

Visit the Fountainhead South neighborhood in Melbourne, or any other homes that border Melbourne International Airport. We are overrun with wild pigs.

They have dug up our yards. We get the grass packed down and the next day we have another trench where they have dug it up.

They not only are digging, but also, contrary to what was described in this article, very aggressive. I stepped out my front door Friday evening and one almost ran me over. On Saturday night, my neighbor was approaching my front door and a pig came out after her. These pigs were not cornered and certainly were not in any danger.

I have contacted the Airport Authority, as have several other residents. To date, I have not had a response on any efforts to control our pig population.
