I only know because I get e-mailed when a "friend" writes a journal. I use this to find out when Taco writes about what's happening.
But when other "friends" write in journals, I get e-mails too. You're my friend for some reason (probably what I considered a very insightful or interesting comment, possibly for humor, don't remember) so I got notified.
But I don't read journals otherwise.

BillyGates frequently posts insightful, knowledgable stuff in the MSFT realm. I get the little e-mails when there is a journal update by a "friend". I just couldn't pass up this topic when it showed up in my inbox.
