FortKnox's Journal: I just finished HL2 (spoiler free)

Just before the end, there are a few parts of the game that's sole purpose is to 'wow' you, and it does a good job of it. The ending, however, I hated... didn't like it one bit.

I wished the game was longer. Granted, the game was long, but it seemed more like playing missions instead of 'discovering the story.' I feel the game answered the questions at hand, but not the history, and what all was going on in the end.

It does leave the game WIDE OPEN for a sequel, but still.... I wanna know more!!!

I can't guarantee the comments of this JE will be spoiler free, so read at your own risk. In fact, if anyone else finished the game, I'd be interested on your take.

I'm very near the end of the airboat from hell. THAT has been really tiresome. I could do with more confrontations and less dodging mines, thanks. Of course I took the left path, which isn't discussed in any of the walktrhoughs (yeah, I'm a cheezeball sometimes, though I only REALLY needed it once), and who knows how I'm going to get out of THAT mess.

playing it online completely makes up for it though. online, it's a *lot* of fun

You were right about the game ending being open for a sequel. Maybe in HL3, Gordon will confront his father, and they will fight it out, while the evil emporer, Ben (or whoever that evil guy who talked to much was), looks on. And we maybe we will also learn that Alex is Gordon's sister.

I agree with your thoghts on the ending, however, even with that, HL2 is bar none the best FPS I've played to date. Even on my aging long in the tooth computer it plays decent enough to make me jump.

I loved the game, but too much tech demo and not enough gameplay. If they had just given you a big city block and told you to get from one end to the other, it would have been great, but it ended up being really linear. The ending unexplained things for me... I loved the style, but it just raised too many questions while answering none.
