Journal MikeBabcock's Journal: Ignorant people 11

I just added someone to my foes list simply for being an ignorant jerk. They posted this comment in another user's journal about boxing in fast cars just to piss them off.

I happen to get paid to do support, often driving to a dozen locations in a day and those people lose me money. I've called the cops on them for holding up traffic and thoroughly enjoyed watching them get pulled over and having the rules of safe driving explained to them (speed isn't as important as safe flow).

I sure hope somebody gets this guy pulled over a few times as a result of his ignorance. That kind of "I'm so smart" attitude will get you hurt. And you'll have it coming; my family has an expression ... "you can be dead right".

I have never boxed in a car and then slowed down below the posted speed limit. Why would I do that? It does annoy me when people weave in and out of traffic at 10 or more miles per hour over the speed limit.

Are you saying you have to speed to get your job done? Your employer is forcing you to perform an illegal and unsafe act to do your job? No offense, but if I ever saw a company car driving unsafely I would certainly report them to the company (or the 800 number they usually have on their car). I seriously doubt any company would ask you to speed, since their insurance would suffer if you get in an accident. If they are overbooking you, that is their fault.

Not too suprisingly, I have only been pulled over once, for a broken taillight. Do you want to know what really interrupts traffic flow? Impatient drivers, who weave in and out of traffic like it is the Indy 500, causing other drivers to brake. Also drivers who insist on running lights cause traffic delays to people who are trying to drive through green lights. You know, the 5 cars that insist on going through an intersection after the arrow has turned yellow, forcing everyone to wait for them to get out of the intersection before they can go even though they have had a green light for several seconds.

Like I said, I have only been pulled over once, with only a warning, for a broken taillight. I do know plenty of people who have been pulled over for exceeding the speed limit and ticketed, so I am guessing that most police probably wouldn't agree with you here.

    • Just google for "domino pizza lawsuit speeding driver". Domino's Pizza learned the hard way that company policies that force people to speed to do their job ("under 30 minutes or its free") are costly.

They're also a hazard to your own long-term health due to the extra stress.

As has been pointed out, if you are over-booked, and speed as a result, both you and the company are on the hook for millions in any lawsuit for damages.

Either your boss has to start charging more (so you don't have to speed from sit

      • Michigan also proved that higher speeds (at least on freeways) don't in fact produce higher accident rates; ignorant drivers do.

Pulling out in front of a speeder is a good way to die.

        Speeding isn't necessarily.

Also, I have a personal policy of going as fast as traffic and conditions allow. That often means 80km/h in a 60km/h zone.

You'd be considered a slow-poke on Quebec highways. 40 km/hr over the speed limit doesn't even get you a glance on the highway under most conditions.

However, 25 km/hr over the limit in urban areas will (sometimes) get you a ticket...

Me, I'd rather go slower and save gas/wear and tear/tires/etc. After all, even at the same accident rates, fatalities are going to be higher the faster y

  • I would like to request that your obituary be mailed to me when you drive off a cliff because you haven't matured any since your sixteen candles birthday.

It would give me a good chuckle, and a nice warm feeling like fresh baked cookies.

I would also like to mooch at the buffet provided by your next of kin after the funeral, and perhaps attempt to nail any attractive family members you may have, as people are usually somewhat haggard and defenseless after a funeral.

By the way - I'm that guy that you tailga

  • Hmm... looks like the nuts replied. If you are upset with someone speeding, how about calling the police and reporting them? Pissing people off who are driving erratically just means you are part of the problem that causes the traffic fatality later when that driver does something stupid because they are pissed off. Get a clue people - if you want people to obey the law, be smart about it - not as stupid as the people you are trying to stop.
    • What's more interesting (in the vein of the original comment on my part) is that those who replied against my PoV are all "foes of friends" or of no relation whatsoever.

You, OTOH, are actually on my friends list. Looks like the birds of a feather comment is more true than one might think.

For everyone else's sake, I've called *OPP (the direct line to the provincial police here) a number of times to report apparently drunk or idiotic drivers. I've reported and had pulled over slow and ignorant drivers. T
    • Hi. So nice to meet you. Have a nice day kid.
      • Ever noticed that you have a generally bad attitude? Cutting in front of other people for no reason except your own dementia, calling people 'kid' for no apparent reason except perhaps to be demeaning, any others?

Anti-social behaviours like yours are rarely justifiable. For certain, some of them are at the least illegal. Remember, you're the one who's going to die when you get rear-ended by that speeder, not him or her. Whiplash is a bitch.

        • Lighten up. First, face it, driving fast is stupid. Calling the cops doesn't work because they aren't going to chase down a guy who is going 10 miles over the speed limit. They've got more important things to do. My driving record is amazingly clean because I do everything legally. My insurance premiums also reflect this.

You're just pissed off because you think that people have the right to drive however they see fit. I don't think they do. They have a privelege to drive as long as they keep within
          • Face it, driving fast has been proven to be no less safe than driving slowly if you know how to drive.

See studies on Michigan raising interstate speeds from 55 to 75 mph.

My driving record is almost perfectly clean too, and I speed everywhere. I've had two tickets for 15kmph over the limit each ($35 fine). My insurance premiums are great for someone as young as I am, but having over 10 years of clean driving is good.
