The Good News as recorded by John

Chapter 1

In the beginning of all, was the Word -- the Word was with God, and the Word himself was God.
This Word was with God in the beginning.

This Word made all things. Without him not one thing was made that exists today.

This Word had life within himself -- this life was the light of men. The light shines on in the darkness, but the darkness has never understood it.

God sent a man; whose name was John. John came to give witness about that light, so that through John all men might trust the light. John himself was not the light; only a witness -- that the true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

The Word was in the world. Even though he made the world, the world did not recognize him. He came to the people who he had named as his own, but they too did not receive him. Yet to all those who did receive him, to those who believed in his name -- to them he gave the right to become children of God. These were children born -- not born from blood, nor of fleshy lust, not by people's willpower -- these were children born from God Himself - from God's spirit.

The Word put on flesh and set up his tent among us. And we saw his glory with our own eyes -- the glory the One and only child, of his Father God, full of graceful, beautiful and perfect truth. ...
