Journal bmetzler's Journal: Democrats "Come to Jesus" 14

What is going on? I heard on the radio yesterday that Pelosi had created a 20 member Faith Committee. I thought that Democrats believed in a strong wall of seperation betweek church and state. Is the wall cracking?

The CNN article does conclude by acknowledging that the Democrats might turn people off by this approach. But the biggest risk for the party is to come off as insincere. Religious voters might like the music, but they're unlikely to be seduced by it as long as Democrats stick to their core positions.

    • No, they won't piss off their base, because their base knows they don't mean it. Besides, we ignorant Red Staters deserve to be fooled into voting for them, because we're too stupid to govern ourselves.

Democrats wake up every morning and think "How can we fool them today?"

Plus - don't forget what the probable new head of the DNC, Howard Dean said about getting away from God, Guns, and Gays in the South.

But, since the troops will start coming home later on this year, by 2006 Election Day the Dems will

heh, in my experience watching washington, BOTH parties wake up in the morning wondering how they're going to fool EVERYONE.

Such things are the nature of politics.

<denial=+5>Say it aint so! The system must be making things better, right? I mean, despite the rhetoric, they believe in freedom and justice and rights, right? They can't just be out to gain power...</denial>

Weird. I'm a liberal and I think that each time I apply at a business that is Republician. All here are.

I'd suggest it's possible (though not plausible) that the Green Candidate in 2008 garners as mush attention as whichever loser the Dems pick on '08.

At least we'll have more choice.

  • I'm embarassed for the Democratic Party, grasping at something so wildly inappropriate and uncharted for them, in desperate hope. They lost this time because Bush already had a track record of fighting the war on terror, and some of the people who normally would've voted for them (such as many of the "security moms") didn't, on this account. Had there been no 9/11/2001 attack, evangelical Christians would've still voted for Bush, and religious people for whom somehow Left-wing ideas jibe and are indicated,
  • But much of the proposed repositioning among the Democrats has more to do with marketing than with changing the party's traditional stands on social issues. Central to the efforts is a linguist, George Lakoff of the University of California, Berkeley.

They're getting religious advice from a Berkeley professor. Fantastic. The GOP could run the Geico duck in 2008 and win.

I recommend Democrats to call up French professors for ideas on defense policy.

It's never really entirely been there to begin with- Thomas Jefferson had much to say on the separation of Church and State being one way. Just in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, a miniority within the Democratic party of rabid Secular Humanists and Feminists rose to the forefront, did a lot of screaming and yelling, and created the party where John Kerry couldn't even talk about his real position

      • You couldn't tell by the noise they are making, that they lost.

Listen to Air America Radio- you'd think Terry McAuliffe was the most incompetent boob ever to set foot on the chairmanship of the party.

mean, far as I can tell the Democrats are just floating trial balloons until they find something that sticks. I don't think the uber-Left has gone anywhere in the Democratic party.

I don't either- but the point is that the uber-left has NEVER included atheists and feminazis; without morality, what's the p
