...someone should get these guys together with the Japanese guy who's doing the one frame at a time ASCII remake of Star Wars. Instead of ASCII, they should do an entire frame-by-frame, stop-motion-animation remake of Star Wars using nothing but origami! This would have the virtues of combining two deranged, inexplicable geek activitives into one, AND keep those obsessives off the streets for years to come!

Unit Origami

Personally, I like the geometric purity of Unit Origami [amazon.com] by Tomoko Fuse. The unit origami creations make great desktop conversation pieces. The objects don't need any explanations about what "real world" object they are trying to look like since they are just geometric shapes. Try a google search for other unit origami resources.

Look through my past comments and I think you'll see my average is pretty damn high. Most of the jokes I make get to 4 or 5, so an occasional bomb doesn't concern me much. ie. It happens, get over it.

Low Intermediate

I fold a lot, so I have a decent idea of origami difficulty levels (Simple, Low/(nothing)/High Intermediate, Complex). These models are around low intermediate difficulty - anyone should be able to fold them after a few tries.

Must be an IE only thing (snicker)... Mozilla works just fine and won't try to install the activex gator plug-ins - I with I knew that before I forwarded the link, however. Poor form on the webmaster's site.

Old Idea

Yet again I'm twenty-five years ahead of the universe.

In 1977, at age 10, after seeing Star Wars a couple of times, I made a collapsible (but not origami) robot out of 3x5 index cards and shiny decorative tape, carefully folded it into an envelope, and mailed it to George Lucas, along with a letter telling him how great Star Wars was. Of course, he didn't write back, being so busy with The Empire Strikes Back, I assume.

I'd send a similar commemorative object today, except that I'm pretty sure there's some law against sending folding turds in the mail.
