Study Suggests Women Prefer Internet Over Sex

samzenpus posted more than 5 years ago | from the you're-not-doing-it-right dept.

Idle 16

jbatista writes "Intel has issued a disturbing news release from a survey. The survey found that sensibly half of the interviewed women claim their preference of Internet over sex. According to the survey, nearly half of women (46 percent) and 30 percent of men would rather go without sex for 2 weeks than give up Internet access for the same amount of time. For women aged 18-34 it was 49 percent and for women aged 35-44 it was 52 percent. For men aged 18-34, it was 39 percent." You don't need the touch of another person when you can get super poked on Facebook.

What a dumb title. The question was not "do you prefer the internet EXCUSIVELY over real sex". I doubt many people would completely give up sex for the internet.

Jeez!

The fact that we read Slashdot is the reason that most women stay away from us. (or at least me)

Huh? People get sex more often than every 2 weeks (0)

Wow.... People are actually having sex more often than every 2 weeks? Must be newlyweds, people that pay for it, or someone that picks up easy people in a bar. ;)

Either samzenpus has way too much time available to find amazingly relevant pictures or his idle hands really are the devil's playground.

Aren't those the same thing?

A more appropriate question for Slashdot would be: (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#26141351)

Would you give up internet access for two weeks in order to have sex?

When asked on a survey, half said they preferred the internet to sex. Later, when they wanted sex, all of them wanted sex. Afterwards, half of them said they wanted the internet again. Not determined is how many were using the internet during the intervening times to find sex.

Of course, we should all respect Intel as a social psychology research organization, every bit as much as we should look to APA's Journal of Personality and Social Psychology for advances in microelectronics.

Whew, got confused... (1)

What these types of studies usually fail to take into account is the MASSIVE difference between "sex in general" vs "sex with my husband" or "sex with my wife" or just "sex as I know it" etc., which is exactly what most peoples "reference point" of what sex is is based on ... if your wife/husband is fat or old/ugly or there are relationship problems or just poor sex partners, then claiming to prefer the Internet doesn't necessarily mean you prefer the Internet to sex in general, it just means you prefer the Internet to the lousy sex you're used to. Given the obesity rates and divorce rates and levels of other issues in relationships that affect the sex, I suspect most people are simply having lousy sex, and that there will be a huge overlap between those having lousy sex and those who claim to prefer Internet. It doesn't mean anything then. I'm in quite good shape and have had really fantastic sex with my last few partners, all of whom were mostly in good shape and sexy too, and the Internet doesn't come anywhere close (in fact very little in life then does) ... but I've also had bad sex once or twice and, yeah, it was bad enough that I'd almost say I prefer Internet to that. Almost.
