Guitar Hero: Metallica Setlist Released

Soulskill posted more than 4 years ago | from the exit-light-enter-night dept.

Music 82

An anonymous reader writes "Metallica has announced the setlist for their upcoming Guitar Hero game. They have a wide variety of songs from their different albums. There are 28 Metallica songs and 21 from other artists. They have also confirmed the release date of March 29th. The list includes Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, One, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Fans who pre-order the game will have an opportunity to get an extra bass drum pedal to keep up with Lars Ulrich's beats."

Sorry! There are no comments related to the filter you selected.

Don't give your money to those greedy cocksuckers. They'd sue you and rape your grandma if they ever found out that you had illegally downloaded their music. Funny thing is, James Hettfield has bragged about how he used to crash on friends' couches, often staying up all night making copies of friends' tapes. Metallica are:

James Hettfield: Ugly bet-wetting homophobic limp-dick wannabe tough-guy chump with mommy issues.
Lars Ulrich: a little coke-snorting, bottled-water drinking, Tennis-playing, money-grubbing little faggot.
Kirk Hammett: Greasy mustachioed vegetarian pedophile who read monster magazines in Catholic school as he was fellating Father O' Malley in the rectory basement.
$BASS_PLAYER: usually some submissive dog of a loser who gets to be Metallica's punching bag since Cliff Burton died and NOBODY will ever replace him. Usually sits quiet with his leash on during band interviews.

Of course the band is full of douches, so my Metallica mp3's are all pirated.

pirated mp3? That's so last decade...

By now you should have all concerts and mtv videos in 1080p, ready to be remotely played on your 50" tv and at the same time, seeded by torrent.

Then someone would nuke your release because one of the videos isn't really in 4.1 and on the propper, he'd include the cracked guitar hero game and 50 ebooks of pretty little poems about Ulrich; 49 of which would be haiku.

As for the second pedal, I liked Ars' take on this [arstechnica.com] : "[...] and you'll be able to hook up a second pedal to your drums in order to barely keep up with the rest of the band. Just like Lars!"

Double bass pedals are for wimps. If you can't do it with a single foot, GTFO. ;)

I haven't owned a console since the Sega Genesis (and I haven't installed a FPS since Q2, or played a graphical adventure game since Myst or Space Quest 5, whichever came last). Not that I haven't tried plenty of stuff at friend's houses (Mario Kart and Mario Party are pretty fun), but I know what I like, and not much seems worth the time and investment.

If I ever get a Wii (I think that's GH is for, right?): I'm waiting for a Guitar Hero with Bronx Casket Co., Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Jack Off Jill, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Disturbed, KoRn, NOFX (S&M Airlines, please!), Minor Threat, Iced Earth, Rancid, Avenged Sevenfold (Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, please!), Garbage, Urban Waste, Against All Authority, Dillinger Four, 88 Fingers Louie, Pink Floyd, Black Flag, Starmarket, Crass, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies (Lights Camera Revolution, please!), Screeching Weasel, Circle Jerks, Presidents of the United States of America, The Casualties, The Impossibles, Moist, umm..... I'll probably be waiting a while, eh?

Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Dead Kennedys, [...]

All of which are featured in GH3 [Number of the beast, Stricken, Holiday in Cambodia].

If it's a hard requirement that all the listed artists are featured in a single game, then yeah, you'll have to wait a while.

While I know you were at least partially joking, and while there are tons of drummers out there who use double bass as a crutch, who would cry if they tried to play Seek and Destroy with one pedal, I'd like to see anyone who can correctly play Dyer's Eve or Fight Fire With Fire with one standard bass pedal.

Re:There's no justice... (1)

jZnat (793348) | more than 5 years ago | (#26724809)

Ulrich can barely play Dyer's Eve with a double bass pedal. Metallica had to record the double bass sections separately in order to maintain accuracy and speed. Also, Ulrich is an old fart in comparison to the endurance and speed of your typical death or black metal drummer.

I listed the albums (from memory) that each of these songs comes from. I wasn't sure on the Load vs. Reload songs, as they are both the same album to me really.

But to make my point, there are more songs from And Justice for All then on St. Anger and Death Magnetic combined.

Which brings me to the next point. No matter what Metallica does, they will be a target. Some of it justified, but most of it will be misguided and ill informed.

Track Listing with original Album:

All Nightmare Long - Death Magnetic
Battery - Master of Puppets
Creeping Death - Ride the Lightning
Disposable Heroes - Master of Puppets
Dyers Eve - And Justice for All
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Fade To Black - Ride the Lightning
Fight Fire With Fire - Ride the Lightning
For Whom The Bell Tolls - Ride the Lightning
Frantic - St. Anger
Fuel - Reload
Hit The Lights - Kill em All
King Nothing Load
Master of Puppets - Master of Puppets
Mercyful Fate (Medley) - Garage Inc.
No Leaf Clover - S&M
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
One - And Justice for All
Orion - Master of Puppets
Sad But True - Metallica
Seek And Destroy - Kill em All
The Memory Remains - Reload
The Shortest Straw - And Justice for All
The Thing That Should Not Be - Master of Puppets
The Unforgiven - Metallica
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Master of Puppets
Wherever I May Roam - Metallica
Whiplash - Kill em All

Old Metallica is excellent and classic. Everything up until the Black album. In my book it debatable whether or not the Black album itself is good, I prefer the older stuff but the Black album is not all bad.

But they are greedy litigious assholes considering all the crap they have pulled in recent years that basically shows they don't get it when it comes to modern music distribution. Alienate your fans, way to go!

Yeah, because those fans sure are acting like they've been alienated [wikipedia.org] , what with the latest album debuting at #1 and apparently going platinum in the first day of sales.

Now if you had said "alienating the fans who don't buy their albums", that would probably be more accurate. But when you're running a business, what do you lose by doing that?

I was at a Dream Theater show last summer, and I wore my Justice shirt. I overheard a couple of guys behind me talking about it, even though they tried not to let me hear:

Guy 1: Aww, Metallica? They suck!
Guy 2: No dude, that's Justice, they were good back then!
Guy 1: Really?
Guy 2: Yeah, they made albums before St. Anger, you know...

That said, I still like the newer albums. Not as much as the older ones, but new Metallica is still far superior to all the other crap being made nowadays. I just bought Death Magnetic a few weeks ago, and it's the only album made in the past 5 years that I own that's not made by Dream Theater.

As for the lawsuits, that was almost entirely Lars, and I won't begrudge the entire band for it. The rest of them basically didn't care one way or the other.

Besides, the band's always advocated for free distribution of bootlegs; it's just studio material that they went after. For the last several years you've been able to download recordings of their live shows for free from their site.

Re:Queen (1)

Locke2005 (849178) | more than 4 years ago | (#26609235)

While I happen to agree with your musical tastes (and GH Aerosmith isn't that bad) the real problem is that 90% of their pre-packaged content is going to be crap, but it's a _different_ 90% for each customer! It should be ALL downloaded content. Unfortunately, as a Wii owner, I'm stuck with paying $45 for a Guitar Hero or Rock Band disc with only 2 decent songs on it. I own both Guitar Hero and Rock Band for Wii, but if I had it to do over again, I would have bought an Xbox 360 just for these games so I wouldn't have to play the brain-dead versions of those games they ported to the Wii. There are a lot of games that are good on the Wii, but Rock Band and Guitar Hero are much, much better on the Xbox (and probably on the PS3 as well). Lack of downloadable content on the Wii is stupid and pointless since there are 2 USB ports one could plug a flash memory extension into, as well as an SD memory slot.

Rock Band is working on a Beatles game for Christmas, and rumors has it that part of Pearl Jam's huge marketing blitz launching in March will include the re-released Ten as a full album download for Rock Band.

Personally, I would kill for a full Rock Band/Guitar Hero centered on grunge rock from the 90's with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Temple of the Dog, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, leading into more modern bands like Foo Fighters, Audioslave, etc.

Yeah, it's going to be in black and white and you won't be able to hear any music through their early-60s 5 watt amps for all the pubescent girls screaming at them.

This doesn't matter, because the aim of the game isn't to "play" along with the music, it's to get Paul McCartney to move his head in as Muppetish and stupid a way as possible, just like he does in those ancient clips.

Re:Bet it will sound better than the CD album (3, Insightful)

no reason to be here (218628) | more than 4 years ago | (#26605423)

That was the fault of the engineer on the album. I don't know why Rubin keeps going to him, but he keeps compressing the shit out of everything when they mix the albums. The mastering engineer publicly called them out on it after the album had been released. Quote from wikipedia: " MusicRadar and Rolling Stone attribute a quote to the album's mastering engineer Ted Jensen in which he claims that "mixes were already brick-walled before they arrived" for mastering[70][71] and cite a petition from fans to remix or remaster the album." Oftentimes today "mastering" today is simply over-compressing the hell out of the mix, but apparently, that was done ahead of time on this one.

Blimey85 (609949) | more than 4 years ago | (#26606227)

Yes, yes it did. You can however, find it avail online at the usual places, as a rip from a game that sounds a lot less crappy. Odd that the store bought version is the crappy one. I typically download all of my tunes and on occasion I grab something that is less than great. I then grab another copy from someone else. I was thinking everyone had a crap copy until I read the news that the actual master was shite. How can a band as large as Metallica make such an amateur mistake? If we want to crank things up in our tunes or overdrive our amps or whatever, we can do that after we buy the cd thank you very much. No need for you to muck things up in the studio.

Not that it's all that great of a cd anyway. They have a couple of slower parts that sound really great and then they go into the heavy stuff and I dunno... just doesn't feel right. Tis a shame. I think they have a lot of talent and I used to be a huge fan.

What's missing... (1)

antic (29198) | more than 4 years ago | (#26605455)

All up, there are a lot of tracks likely to be tonnes of fun to play for Metallica fans. Really looking forward to this. (Who do I have to bribe to get GH: Pantera, then FNM, etc!?)

Here's what's missing from the key albums:

JUSTICE:
Blackened ...And Justice For All (Shame. Already released on Rock Band, I think?)
Eye of the Beholder
Harvester of Sorrow
Frayed Ends of Sanity
To Live is to Die (wish this was in there instead of Dyers Eve)

BLACK:
Holier Than Thou
Don't Tread on Me
Through the Never
Of Wolf and Man
The God That Failed
My Friend of Misery
The Struggle Within

KILL EM ALL:
The Four Horsemen (surprised they couldn't get this in there? Issues with Mustaine?)
Motorbreath
Jump in the Fire
Pulling Teeth
Phantom Lord
Metal Militia

PUPPETS:
Leper Messiah
Damage Inc

LIGHTNING:
Ride the Lightning
Trapped Under Ice (already in World Tour)
Escape
Call of Ktulu (biggest omission IMO)

There are a number of inclusions I don't care for:

All Nightmare Long (already have the Death Magnetic download, why even include it?)
Dyers Eve
Frantic (never really listened to St Anger much, so don't know it)
Fuel (there's better on Load they could've snuck in instead; Bleeding Me or Outlaw Torn maybe)
No Leaf Clover (meh)

The non-Metallica tracks look OK, but I would've liked to have seen more than 2-3 from the Garage Inc first disc. Maybe Sabbra Cadabra, Astronomy, Whiskey in the Jar, etc. Why not leave some of those other tracks (e.g., Toxicity) as DLC?

Why not leave all the extra tracks as DLC?
It's annoying they slap these extra tracks on Metallica version, so those who like those extra tracks, are forced to buy GH:Metallica, even though they may not care much for the Metallica tracks.

Re:What's missing... (1)

Walpurgiss (723989) | more than 4 years ago | (#26606365)

Why not make all the tracks DLC? It's stupid to have to switch in discs for a game like GH/RB. All the damn games should just have been a DLC pack for $50 or whatever they're charging for the disc.

I really doubt anyone seriously uses the XBox360s that have no HD, and for PS3 its not a problem, only PS2/Wii really lag behind there. It should be DLC for the same price.

Re:What's missing... (1)

DataBroker (964208) | more than 4 years ago | (#26606477)

I prefer disks to DLC. There are many reasons to prefer a disk too. For me, I can move the game to either of my 360's without being online. Or, if I don't like the content, I can sell it or give it away.

I agree that the disk swapping sucks, but they could work around that easily enough by making you do it just once a month (to verify you still have the disk).

Of course, the real reason they won't offer $50 DLC is that when most people spend that kind of money, they want something to have and to hold -- a new game package.

Re:What's missing... (1)

Tukz (664339) | more than 4 years ago | (#26606521)

Well, then make DLC cheaper than buying a new disk.
Noticeable cheaper.

I agree with Walpurgiss, it's annoying to have to change disk to play different songs.

With all new songs coming as DLC, all songs is on the list from the original GH.

Rock Band does it, why can't GH?

Re:What's missing... (1)

rworne (538610) | more than 4 years ago | (#26609173)

Well, the AC/DC pack for Rockband was definitely the best compromise.

The disc itself is a stand-alone game with AC/DC tracks. Included in the case is a code to download all the tracks as DLC.

See? Best of both worlds and everyone's happy - provided they like AC/DC.

I want all my stuff available on the console. No disc swapping. That pretty much killed Singstar for me - well, the crappy US DLC releases for Singstar pretty much killed it for me too.

Re:What's missing... (1)

LordKronos (470910) | more than 4 years ago | (#26607887)

Then you'd be pleased with the way Rock Band has done it. The same DLC library works in both Rock Band 1 and 2. The songs from RB1 can be exported for $5 and used in RB2 (except for 3 songs, which they couldn't secure the export rights for). The $5 is purely to pay for licensing fees, presumably because at the time RB1 was made Harmonix wasn't thinking ahead far enough to include such export rights into the original contract.

When Rock Band: AC/DC came out, the game included a code in the box which would be used to download all of the songs from the AC/DC game for use in RB2 (I'm not sure if they will also work in RB1, but I think so).

Presumably, by the time they licensed songs for RB2, they also secured export rights to all of those songs, so hopefully everything will work in RB3. The next Rock Band game to come out is going to be a Beatles game, and although they haven't detailed everything exactly, they have indicated it will work with existing RB games in some manner, so hopefully it too will allow exporting songs.

I play GH even though I also play guitar. It's a great game, you should give it a go when you find the time.

Ever played Speedball even though you can don a 10-kg armor and throw a red hot iron ball around? Ever played Counterstrike even though you have a gun? Ever played Starcraft even though you own a bicyc... I mean Science Vessel?

See?

I have played it, its fun, but i dont have time .. any time i do have, id rather play my really guitar, and actually get valuable experience out of it ... on the other hand, I need my attached physics lab to do anything useful ...
I have heard that alot of guitarists have problems with playing GH ... its too simplified or something .. it is funt hough ,,, specially when you have a few drinks in you ;)

For future reference, the lyric is "dub", not "doubt".

I play bass and I play GH. I find that while it's no good for training you how to use more than one "string" (They should put 4 to 6 strum switches on it to make it somewhat more realistic...) I have found that I've noticed my timing, finger strength, and left hand dexterity have improved greatly.

Most guitarists that dislike GH simply haven't put some time in. GH take practice too. If the non-guitar playing dork across the room just kicked your ass in Smoke on the Water, then you need to do more practicing and less whining.

Get into it, it's fun, especially from a guitar-player's point of view.

And the only way to impress the women these days is if you can switch off between a real guitar and GH "guitar" and be equally skilled on both!! Let me tell you - I thought my friend did pretty good with the ladies when playing live in a band. Until he started jamming on a tiny plastic twanger thingy, then they were all over him! You can do it if you try. And if you act now, we'll throw in TWO electric twangers.

Just think of this: when you buy GH: PacMan Fever Edition, you can actually "Plunk your electric twanger, Froggy [hiwaay.net] ."

That ended up pretty rambling. Hope you enjoyed...

Does it matter. If you are playing Guitar Hero you might as well admit you're a pussy.

singles for download (1)

Ogive17 (691899) | more than 4 years ago | (#26606973)

What I hope is that they make some of the single songs available for download through the wii shop. I don't want the entire game, but it would be nice to have a couple metallica songs on the set list while playing world tour.

Some good news for Wii owners (1)

LordKaT (619540) | more than 4 years ago | (#26607577)

If you downloaded the "Death Magnetic" album for Xbox and PS3, those ten songs will play in their entirety in the full game mode. PS2 and Wii versions (coming in the Spring, most likely in early May) will include "Broken Beat & Scarred," "Cyanide" and "My Apocalypse" since they are not compatible with the Death Magnetic downloadable content.

About fucking time I get to do something else with guitar Hero on the Wii besides frustratingly pull my hair out on One.

Wow...the haters (1)

shagymoe (261297) | more than 4 years ago | (#26608483)

I didn't expect to see so much hate for Metallica. Yes, the black album was marginal and everything after that pretty lame except for Death Magnetic if you can get past the compression issue. Death Magnetic is fucking awesome and the drum work is simply amazing. I used to know how to play every song on every album through the black album on guitar, so I obviously love Metallica and was pretty disappointed with the last few, but to say that Death Magnetic sucks means you either haven't really listened to it or you just don't like Metallica. Funny how people can hate so much and yet they couldn't pluck out mary had a little lamb if their life depended on it.

If one listens to a post-1991 Metallica album expecting a pre-1991 Metalica album, one will be surely disappointed. If one can accept and understand that bands, and especially the people in those bands, change over time, and develop new skills, lose old skills, and change themselves physically and emotionally, then one may begin to accept and understand that Metallica is simply no longer the band they once were. They can never be. All they can be, moving forward, is the best Metallica they can try to be.

Love it or leave it. Get off my fucking lawn.

They flipped off their audience eons ago. They called pretty much all of us losers and thieves. I for one was rather not happy about it having PAID for all of my CDs.

This sums it up best.

I too liked Death Magnetic but found it a tad long in a few places but overall better than the previous go of St. Anger and reload. For 10 bucks not too bad...

However many still are a little angry at the hypocrisy of what they were saying and they way they did it. A much better approach would have been 'we know you are downloading it and we dont have much power to stop you from doing it. We the band of metallica ask you to stop and buy it instead.' You know there probably would have been TONS of people that would have respected that. Instead they basically set themselves up to be ripped off every time someone can now.

The Internets memory is a LONG one even if people do not realize why they are doing it anymore.

Less than 60 songs? (1)

Enderandrew (866215) | more than 4 years ago | (#26610419)

Didn't GH3 boast 80 songs? And it got free DLC as well. I don't believe GH:Aerosmith got free DLC, so I don't expect Metallica will either.

GH:WT also has tons and tons of songs.

I expect they'll still charge $60 for the game.

The second pedal deal alone is almost worth it. (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#26611179)

If you price out the parts for adding a second pedal right now -- you need the pedal, and a special splitter (a standard audio splitter doesn't register the second pedal being depressed when the first already has) -- you're looking at about $60 right now anyway.

This is sort of the Wii Play of the rhythm game genre: a $50 peripheral bundled with a mediocre game for $10 more.

Rise Against? (1)

bluefoxlucid (723572) | more than 4 years ago | (#26615149)

Metallica is one of the few bands worthy of a solo title, says Luke Plunkett of game news site Kotaku.com, "because they're one of the few popular enough â" and with a large enough back catalog â" to make it a worthwhile endeavor. A lot of their biggest songs are built on fast drums, fast guitars and epic solos, which should make them more enjoyable to play."

Sounds like Rise Against would be better. Pick up The Sufferer and the Witness; and for a little lighter work, Appeal to Reason (Entertainment and The Dirt Whispered are both easier than Injection and Survive!). Bet we don't see it!
