Mother Claims Hotel Pool Got Her Daughter Pregnant

samzenpus posted more than 5 years ago | from the how-do-you-think-things-work dept.

Idle 35

A Polish woman is not doing her countrymen any favors by suing an Egyptian hotel, claiming that the hotel pool is responsible for getting her 13-year-old daughter pregnant. The mother claims "stray sperm" in the pool are to blame for the baby souvenir her daughter came back from vacation with. "The mother is adamant that her daughter didn't meet any boys while she was there and is determined to go ahead with the case," said one travel industry source. The level of this mother's ignorance is astounding. Everyone knows that you can't get pregnant in a swimming pool, in a hot tub, or if you press really hard on the girls belly button after sex.

There's actually a discussion in the Talmud about the status of a baby that results from a woman being impregnated from stray sperm in a public bath.

It is interesting that this mother actually believed her daughter is still a "pure virgin" that she didn't meet an boys at their vacation. Was the mother with her daughter every second of the vacation?
I also have a bridge to sell the mother.

Actually the problem is she didn't swallow.

If she swallowed, even super sperm couldn't make it from her mouth to her vagina to impregnate her.

Re:Ignorance is bliss for some. (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28662883)

Actually the virgin birth originates as an inconsistent mistranslation of "young woman" from Hebrew into the Greek version of the old testament (the Sepaguint) that post-dates Jesus. The accounts of Matthew & Luke (but no-one else) then also mention this in passing. Maybe the other disciples only read the original Hebrew, not the translation. Who knows.

Seeing as only Matthew/Luke mention this fulfilment of traslator-created prophecy, presumably it means that only they were spying on Mom&Dad 24x7 9 months prior to the birth to verify that Dad never slipped Mom the salami.

Google for "almah".

Re:Ignorance is bliss for some. (0)

Not necessarily. Presence of a hymen is a pretty strong indicator of virginity, but absence tells you almost nothing. Some women are born without it, many more lose it by being active in sports or the like.

The bigger question is, how the hell does she know it happened while she was on vacation? As if she couldn't have gotten pregnant a few days before or after the trip. It's not like people find out they're pregnant instantly. It takes a while to notice.

Racism? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28642031)

Isn't this a bit racist of the mother? She'd rather claim her daughter got pregnant from a swimming pool than admit that the girl was pregnant from an Egyptian?

Re:Racism? (1)

Ian Alexander (997430) | more than 5 years ago | (#28665949)

Or she could be unwilling to admit that her daughter got knocked up by some random guy she'll never see again on vacation. Race doesn't enter into everything. Anyways, who's to say it was an Egyptian what did it? Tourists tend to congregate in the same touristy places, and they tend to only see locals in their capacity as tour guides and hotel staff. It could've been someone of any nationality, really.

Re:Racism? (1)

JWSmythe (446288) | more than 5 years ago | (#28669243)

The implication of "when in Egypt...." would mean someone there. Obviously, at a hotel or resort, you would expect to find more people from out of town than locals.

This whole thing can be taken as absolute BS though. The oldest publication I could find carrying this story was a polish paper, and they were citing thesun.co.uk. If anyone can make up their own news and publish it, it's them. They rank just up from the now defunct "Weekly World News" [weeklyworldnews.com] , where the WWN stories usually included Bigfoot, Bat Boy, and various aliens. :)

At least they could have done more with the story. They must have just had a little space to fill, and were uninspired to make up a decent fictional story.

Damn. I wish I was that hotel pool. (0)

There's no reason you couldn't get pregnant in a swimming pool, though there is always a risk of drowning if you don't both know what you're doing.

Ever heard of chlorine? It's a magical substance that kills single celled organisms!

Can you guess what pools have in them?

Re:She might be right... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28656663)

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a cheap hotel pool in 110 degree Egypt had almost no detectable levels of chlorine in it. Still, though, considering the dilution factor, it's pretty damn unlikely.

Re:She might be right... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28657629)

Even if the pool doesn't have chlorine, the sperm would die before it got anywhere near her, even if some guy was jacking off while leaning on her.

Re:She might be right... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28657733)

Even chemicals designed to be spermicides aren't 100% effective in all cases.

In any case, I think I heard a woosh right over your head.

Re:She might be right... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 5 years ago | (#28665855)

*woosh*

My point was that you can have sex in a pool. Hence the comment about drowning. Chlorine wouldn't be anywhere near sufficient to reliably prevent pregnancy in that case.

Well, true, you can't get pregnant. The girl, on the other hand, is another question.
