Tweetidor, the Humidor That Tweets

samzenpus posted more than 5 years ago | from the mixing-bowl-blog dept.

Idle 18

wolfspirittt writes 'I know what you are thinking.. not another device that tweets something! Yup, another device that tweets something. This time it's a humidor and it tweets the status of its relative humidity and temperature levels. For cigar aficionados, this means a lot.' For everyone else it means that the tweeting ice cube tray can't be far off.

This Article Just Appeared... (1)

BeardedChimp (1416531) | more than 5 years ago | (#29454729)

out of thin air, I swear it wasn't on the main page, then it appeared between two older articles then when I went back to the main page it was gone again.
Is slashcode really this borked?

This is getting confusing (2, Funny)

I'm having trouble keeping track of all the twitter-enabled devices being released. Someone should create a twitter feed to keep track of them all.

Ok, but... (1)

This guy is a dick. (1)

What is up with appliances having to use twitter? There's been a serious rash of pointlessly tweeting appliances that are, for some reason, getting linked from /. "For cigar aficianados, this means a lot". No, it means you're a dick who wants to show off your cigars and expensive toys. If you care about the condition of your cigars, have it text/email/whatever YOU. That's kind of cool, and useful. Why is twitter necessary for this? (For that matter, why is twitter necessary for anything, but that's besides the point)

P.S. Obligatory "/. has gone downhill in the last few years" comment.

That's a pretty harsh reaction to someone's idea you douchebag. I'm sure you've had better right? How about next time you just keep your worthless opinions to yourself - that way you won't let everyone know how much of an idiot you are.

God damn prick.

I agree with the parent post. This thing is such a waste and is only designed for egomaniacs. Do I need to know Joe Schmoe's cigars are being kept cool? No. Does he? Sure, I guess. So which medium best suits this application? Email and texts, not a public announcement service such as Twitter (or FB or Myspace).

I don't know why you took such offense to his post, it is spot on. Maybe you're one of the guys he is labeling a dick? Probably so... and if not, you're still one for being so rude.

You don't think "this guy is a dick" is just as rude if not more so?

If you think really hard, you might be able to understand why someone might think the sentiment of "someone who wants to do something I don't want to do or understand is a dick" to be overly harsh, and thus come to an understanding why someone might take offense to the post.

I personally wouldn't want to make this, being neither a cigar smoker or a fan of twitter, but I don't think that people with different enthusiasms are dicks for having them.

Remember, the bragging here is "look at the clever way I made these bit of technology work", not "you should subscribe to my cigar's tweets."

The article is about how he did it, not why you should follow his twitter feed. If you actually RTFA, you will see it is about how to interface the sensor to a computer, how to gather meaningful data and present it with the google API and other interesting things. The tweeting function is just one of the things he did with the data.

do you know how twitter works?
You have to subscribe to a tweet, it isn't broadcast to everyone. Presumable the owner would subscribe. As could anyone else that is interested, presumable that wouldn't be many people.

Twitter is used becasue its an easy way to broadcast a message to interested parties; which is all twitter is.

What is it with you Luddite whiners and your need to post everywhere your inability to grasp uses for technology?

Very cool (1)

I'm always forgetting to check the meter on mine 'cause I store it on top of the fridge, but this would be really handy.

Thank you. It seems there are quite a few others that also like this idea. If someone approaches me to make one I may have to take them up on that offer. :)

This is a Great Idea, Actually (1)

RobotRunAmok (595286) | more than 5 years ago | (#29455267)

I wouldn't buy one -- it's not *that* great an idea -- but were I to receive one as a gift it would get me to open a Twitter account, which is really saying a lot.
