The First Geek Wedding At a LinuxFest 93
At the Ohio LinuxFest yesterday, two Linux geeks were married — or had their projects merged into a single trunk, as the officiant, Lord Drachenblut, put it. The wedding of Randy Noseworthy (proprietor of the Juiced Penguin) and Janet Edmonson was announced last week and was live-tweeted by at least one attendee — here's his photo of the happy couple. There's also a video of the ceremony, at which Jon "Maddog" Hall offered a blessing via pre-recorded audio.

Yeah the ancient Greek mathematicians in invented the mathematical aesthetics were geeks, but Geeks should especially be aware that all math is context sensitive.
It's their opinions that matter to them.
Go find someone who thinks your opinion matters and have fun with them.

For better or for worse, if you post something on the public Internet you are inviting the public to view it, form opinions of it, and comment on it. Not all such comments will be 100% favorable. If you are fortunate, most comments will be pleasant likes the ones in this discussion but there is absolutely no guarantee that they won't be mostly unfavorable. If that is intolerable, you should reconsider posting it to the public Internet.
Sure, but why does having "a moment" automatically mean "a moment in the spotlight?" Can you see how maybe thinking this way leaves room for (or just plain invites) comments from the peanut gallery like the one you're replying to? Can't two people who love each other have a truly meaningful moment without producing a public spectacle for a bunch of strangers? Just a thought.

Oh not this again... Yes, the internets are well within their rights to say the couple are ugly, or "Heil Hitler!" for that matter. People are also within their rights to tell such people to not be such jerks.

I don't read any shock in IANAAC, just disgust and annoyance. Even when someone is used to the general assholishness of the net, it's still possible to wage a personal war on certain irritants. I for example have attacked people who believe any criticism on a work of art is an attack on the creator and them. It works on occasion as long as you're calm and polite.
Anyway, you kind of miss my point. If we shouldn't be affected by random crass comments (which are also rather cliche), then the inevitable respons

Given the presumed rarity of a couple of Linux users having the requisite social skills to even *make friends*, let alone marry, I'd say this qualifies as an absolutely momentous event. They probably should have had the music from 2001 accompanying the bridal march; it'd be appropriate in more ways than one. ;)
