Fruit Bats Have Oral Sex Too

samzenpus posted more than 4 years ago | from the pics-or-it-didn't-happen dept.

Idle 17

sciencehabit writes "Researchers at Guangdong Entomological Institute in Guangzhou, China, have observed oral sex for the first time in a non-primate. During intercourse, female short-nosed fruit bats lick the genitals of their partner, a possible ploy to increase copulation time. The discovery suggests there may be a biological advantage to fellatio."

I heard dolphins gave eachother oral sex, was this not true?

Yes, this is true. However, in the animal kingdom dolphins are classified as mammals. Bats are not. Hence the significance of the story. /end snob mode

Nice troll. A troll like that wouldn't work on just any old site.

FYI Mammals include the bats. But I'll leave it to others to explain the attraction of bat titties. But be careful. Where bats are concerned, rabies can be a sexually transmitted disease.

Yeah, but either way...the oral sex stops right after the bats/dolphins get married....

Bats are indeed mammals.

Bats are most assuredly mammals [wikipedia.org] .

What are you on about?

oral sex? (2, Insightful)

i am no expert in the field, but i have seen my dogs lick each others balls while sniffing them. does that count as oral sex?

Re:oral sex? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#29953260)

Why are you sniffing your dogs while they're licking their balls?

What? (1)

Profane MuthaFucka (574406) | more than 4 years ago | (#29953236)

My two dogs suck each other's cocks all the time, and it's clearly for fun, not hygiene.

These researchers are wasting out time with their attention whoring. If they want to publish their results, fine. But if they want to get worldwide attention with their bat cock sucking, then they'd better suck my cock too.

Why, if you already have two dogs to do that for you?

This story has pictures... but why... (1)

How does one put down studies like this on their resume/CV when searching for a job?

Re:resume/CV (2, Informative)

Queen Mab (1670334) | more than 4 years ago | (#29964786)

"Documented undiscovered variation upon standard courtship behavior." And I guarantee you that some undergrad lackey in the future will have "Coded courtship behavior" as a line on their resume, because of course they have to document the frequency of fruit bat blowjobs. All the kinky stuff in science gets written up as "courtship behavior." If you see that on a resume, it's code for "Spent hundreds of hours watching animal porn."

Surprisingly... (1)
