A good thing (1)

yoghurt (2090) | about 4 years ago | (#31700328)

Web 2.0 is a crock. You know the ".0" version is always bug ridden. Just patch it and release 2.1 already.

Now if we could only ban "v6".

Re:A good thing (5, Informative)

snowraver1 (1052510) | about 4 years ago | (#31700354)

Don't you see. France is trying to be an innovator. By banning web 2.0, developers will have not choice but to skip right to 3.0 thus putting france ahead of the curve.

How about II.0 or 8mod6.0 or e^(i*PI)+3.0, hmm? Betcha didn't think of those now didja MessSURE Sarkozy!

Yes, I prever v8. It tastes way better.

I've never tried tasting the engine in my truck. I haven't changed the oil in months so I'm guessing it'd be pretty gritty.

>>>".0" version is always bug ridden. Just patch it and release 2.1 already.

Microsoft's already two steps ahead of you. They will +0.1 the version number from 2.0 to 2.1, and then call it "Web 3"

Re:A good thing (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31701216)

Too true. I guess Google really does show their web viewpoint with Android. Just got 2.1 on my droid yesterday (manual update... too damn impatient). 2.1 is where it's at.

Those silly French (5, Funny)

EsJay (879629) | about 4 years ago | (#31700334)

The problem with the French is that they don't have a word for entrepreneur

Re:Those silly French (0, Flamebait)

godrik (1287354) | about 4 years ago | (#31700422)

why is that modeed insightful and not funny ? Is that moderator april's fool ?

Re:Those silly French (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700770)

Because the morons don't know that it's a french word.

Re:Those silly French (1)

mcgrew (92797) | about 4 years ago | (#31700812)

I don't know, but it's happened to me before; happened just last week in fact. I haven't looked at the mod history of the GP comment, but in the one I had, there were three mods of "funny" and one of "insughtful" and it got a +5, insightful. I guess someone was trying to help my karma, even though it doesn't need any help; it's been excellent all along.

Re:Those silly French (0)

either it is a joke and the flag is wrong
or it is not a joke and some ppl don't even know entrepreneur is a french word.

Re:Those silly French (1)

daveime (1253762) | about 4 years ago | (#31700466)

No, the problem with the French is they refuse to let go of their bloody language.

While the rest of the world (all languages) use common terms like "computers" and "download" things, the French have "ordinateurs" and "telecharger" things.

Re:Those silly French (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700596)

I disagree with you:

Spanish -> "ordenador" and "descargar"
Catalan -> "ordinador" and "descarregar"

If by all languages you mean English then you're right

Re:Those silly French (1)

eleuthero (812560) | about 4 years ago | (#31701640)

Continental languages tend to be self-centric. English has become the new French (or the new Latin... or the new Greek, or the new Babylonian/Egyptian whatever) and as such most new words in most languages that stem from an English / American dominated area tend to have English roots. Your examples demonstrate only that Spain and France developed an understanding of computers before the English-speaking world came to dominate the world scene (The Spanish for "computer" everywhere but Spain is "computadora").

More importantly, at least one of your two examples demonstrates that they have used similar root words (order / compute).

And how I am supposed to address the Welsh Institute of Wood looking like a twit ? I look like somebody from Llanelli !

Says the guy with the Welsh in-joke in his sig ;-).

No, the problem with the Welsh is they refuse to let go of their bloody... best answer wins $1.40 via Paypal, judge's decision is final, no correspondence will be entered into, nemo custodet ipsos custodes, etc.

Re:Those silly French (1)

Mindcontrolled (1388007) | about 4 years ago | (#31701964)

I, and most German geeks i know, do call their box "Rechner", which is literally "computer". I like it - it has that flair of ancient geekery that makes you think of huge relais-driven dusty machinery.

Re:Those silly French (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31701200)

While I was in L.A. some guy said to me "I am an entrepreneur. You know what this means, right ?"
He knew that I was French, but apparently didn't know this is the French word for businessman.
I just answered "Yeah, In French we call that 'businessman'", which is actually the French translation for the American entrepreneur.

Anyway, what about 2.0.0 ?

WTF slashdot (1, Insightful)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700394)

"This content requires the Flash Player."

For all the bashing Flash gets around here, you guys sure are Flash whores.

Fuck you.

P.S.: we're all tired of the fucking april fool jokes all fucking day long, fucking stop it.

Signed,
everyone.

Re:WTF slashdot (0)

April Fools!

Keep the jokes comin'

Re:WTF slashdot (3, Funny)

halivar (535827) | about 4 years ago | (#31700460)

You and 5 whiny children who modded you up need to learn how to not click on April Fool's links. It's that easy. Don't. Click.

Re:WTF slashdot (1, Troll)

The Moof (859402) | about 4 years ago | (#31700490)

need to learn how to not click on April Fool's links

Or, they could stick them in Idle, the category specifically made for exactly these types of articles.

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

Tynin (634655) | about 4 years ago | (#31700568)

Exactly, April 1st for all intensive porpoises might as well be called Make the Internet Useless Day (at least for news).

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

dargaud (518470) | about 4 years ago | (#31700700)

Make the Internet Useless Day

We turned it extra useless at work (300 science guys) by putting upside-down-ternet [ex-parrot.com] in action... People were in fear of complaining. Those who did were told that they should check if they were using a crossover cable. Fun for the whole day.

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

mapkinase (958129) | about 4 years ago | (#31700578)

I am actually annoyed by slashroulette. I got the joke. Once you got it, any repetition does not make it funnier.

Re:WTF slashdot (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700650)

yay for adblock!
|http://*.fsdn.com/aprilfools/* in case you were wondering

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

mapkinase (958129) | about 4 years ago | (#31701050)

It does not work. Frankly, I haven't been editing my ABP custom list for a while...

Is that part also a part of the joke? (inability to AdBlock this shit?)

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

imakemusic (1164993) | about 4 years ago | (#31700658)

Yeah, having it in the one post would have been funny. Having it in every post just makes surreptitiously browsing from work harder.

ITS A FUCKING GEEK SITE (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700484)

Being devoid of a normal sense of humour and incapable of generating original jokes, geeks like to 'slipstream' other people's and milk them till they're dry at every available opportunity. A good example is those enormous 'well in my day...' threads that crop up in just about every story ever.

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

Rijnzael (1294596) | about 4 years ago | (#31700486)

Oooh baby yeah, yeah. Show me more of that anger, yeah. You want some upmod? Here you go baby. Yeah.

Re:WTF slashdot (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700548)

The problem is, I should have made two separate posts. I'm not sure the upmods come from the Flash comment or the April Fool comment.

This is Slashdot. They shouldn't bother people with no Flash plug-in tell them to "activate it" and all those fucking warnings about how to setup their shit properly for the sake of a stupid April Fool joke. Flash is installed? Go ahead with your lame prank. Flash missing? Don't fucking bother me.

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

thePsychologist (1062886) | about 4 years ago | (#31700584)

How about just not visiting Slashdot for a day? The fact that you're so annoyed means that you'd probably benefit from less internet for a day. The internet doesn't matter that much. Who cares? It's just silliness.

oh i get it! (1)

circletimessquare (444983) | about 4 years ago | (#31700588)

its april fools

you're making believe you're a needlessly angry and negative person over some minor pointless detail anyone with a life doesn't care about

that's a good april fools trick!

thank god its april fools, and such people don't exist in the comment section outside of today, right?!

Re:WTF slashdot (1)

mcgrew (92797) | about 4 years ago | (#31700792)

Speak for yourself, if we were all sick of AF jokes there wouldn't be any.

God, (0)

jitterman (987991) | about 4 years ago | (#31700428)

I hate this day more than any other day of the year. Let's just skip to the second, please.

What's wrong with you? (1)

GameboyRMH (1153867) | about 4 years ago | (#31702152)

April Fool's Day is Internet Christmas!

Re:What's wrong with you? (1)

jitterman (987991) | about 4 years ago | (#31702242)

Hmm... maybe I didn't sleep enough last night. Or it's possible that I put my sense of humor in the dryer accidentally, and it shrunk :( I'll try to stretch it back to normal and be more chipper next time I post, I promise.

I suppose if I have your positive outlook, Christmas DOES come twice a year after all!

Nice try for an April, 1st... (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700436)

Anyway this "2.0" buzz leads to stupid marekting again.

No end in sight? (1)

WoodenTable (1434059) | about 4 years ago | (#31700448)

Wait...

Since today is April 1st, doesn't this mean France has just banned tomorrow?! It's the second and way more stable version of today!

Now how will the madness end!? April 3rd? THERE IS NO APRIL THIRD!

The joke's too good. (2, Interesting)

Millennium (2451) | about 4 years ago | (#31700468)

I know it's April Fool's Day and all, but come on; you're talking about France banning a term that originated from another language. That's way too plausible. Net-pranks are supposed to be obvious fakes, man.

Re:The joke's too good. (1)

SleazyRidr (1563649) | about 4 years ago | (#31701150)

That takes all the fun out of it. The perfect prank has people believing it right up to the point where it becomes completely ridiculous, and then you laugh at the people who still believe it after that.

It's all about the build up.

If only it were real (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700500)

I'd love to see "versioning" terms banned for everything that's not software that has a definite versioning pattern.

France finally gets something right! (1)

DontBlameCanada (1325547) | about 4 years ago | (#31700514)

I'm moving to France! It's about damn time someone banned Web 2.0. I was dreading the upgrade-hell of revving all my browsers just to be able to continue to access ./

Re:France finally gets something right! (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31702276)

France finally gets something right!

Yeah, it's not like they had any good wine, cheese, beer, or fries (lol).

OK.... (1)

rickb928 (945187) | about 4 years ago | (#31700540)

What's today's date?

Think about it.

Re:OK.... (1)

imakemusic (1164993) | about 4 years ago | (#31700810)

It's April Fool's Day, a day for amusing pranks and jokes. Why is that relevant?

Re:OK.... (1)

rickb928 (945187) | about 4 years ago | (#31701456)

When you put it that way, April Fools Day is indeed irrelevant.

Sorry, I get cranky when semi-lame April Fools jokes start hitting my sphere of influence around 5:00 AM. Yes, the lame ones make me cranky no matter the time.

I really hate... (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 4 years ago | (#31700544)

April first.

-1, Indistinguishable from reality (1)

Millennium (2451) | about 4 years ago | (#31700608)

Come on. Net-pranks are supposed to be obvious fakes, and here you are, talking about France banning a term that didn't originate in the French language. That's way too plausible.

Also ban on anyone taller than Sarkozy (1)

Endophage (1685212) | about 4 years ago | (#31700724)

Given his touchiness about height it's not surprising Sarkozy has also banned anyone taller than he is. All those people have the option to either leave the country or get free "shortening" surgery on the French health service!

France 2.0 (1)

517714 (762276) | about 4 years ago | (#31700790)

"... there exists no possibility of applying the term ‘2.0' to anything that is viable or comprehensible."

merde (1)

Jeek Elemental (976426) | about 4 years ago | (#31700820)

you know the point of a good april fools joke is to catch people unaware, when there are more jokes than real stories it kinda DOES NOT WORK.
April 1. has now flipped to a game of trying to find a real story among all the unfunny crap.

Oh well its just 1 day i guess.

Finally (1)

Compaqt (1758360) | about 4 years ago | (#31701034)

Sarko accomplishes what legions of web developers, deletionist Wikipedians, and curmudgeonly Slashdotters could not!

Seriously, though, this is from the same folks that brought you

Republic 1.0
Republic 2.0
Republic 3.0
Republic 4.0, and
Republic 5.0 [wikipedia.org]

And they say Microsoft has trouble getting it right the first time.
