Want a Body Piercing With That Server?

samzenpus posted more than 4 years ago | from the this-will-only-hurt-for-a-little-while dept.

Idle 19

1sockchuck writes "The web hosting business is known for promotional gimmicks. But here's an unusual one: ServerBeach UK is offering a free body piercing with every new server ordered on April 1st. 'We were tired of the typical boring giveaways that have been done to death' said ServerBeach's Dominic Monkhouse. The stunt revives memories of earlier guerrilla marketing efforts by web hosts, like the 'human billboard' who was paid $7,000 to tattoo a hosting company's logo on the back of his head."

Does that include Prince Albert piercings? If so I'll take 2.

I was thinking along those lines, but my main question was, "Can I nominate someone else's body?"

Something makes me think the guy with the marketing tattoo spent the $7k on booze the week he got it.

More like the week before he got it. What a silly bastard.

Give me $7000 and I'll put a tattoo anywhere you want, so long as it's only a temporary one.

I wonder if we'll see any REAL stories today?

You might very well be the most stupid fucking person to ever troll slashdot. Every time I get mod points from now on you can be assured they will be spent on destroying the little karma you have.

If you ever had a valid point I would reconsider, but having reviewed many of your posts I have determined that you contribute nothing positive to this site. Besides your inexcusable tone, most of the time you are just plain fucking wrong on the facts. Please go back to /b/, fuckwad.

If you ever decide to make your points in a substantially [slashdot.org] less [slashdot.org] abrasive [slashdot.org] fashion, I may reconsider wasting all of my mod points on you.

Percing? (1)

smooth wombat (796938) | more than 4 years ago | (#31700780)

Really? You're in such a hurry to throw up April Fools stories that you can't use spell check to be sure the words are spelled correctly?

Never mind. I just realized where I am.

When Kdawson isn't posting stuff he stands behind people and throws stuff at them until they mess up. Everything that is wrong with slashdot can be traced back to him.

What morons thinks the retarded video is funny? (1)

BitZtream (692029) | more than 4 years ago | (#31700872)

Dear srsly@slashdot.org ...

Seriously ... WTF made you think the video was going to be funny?

Thanks for making slashdot annoying as shit. Perhaps I'm overreacting, but as a general rule when someone does something this amazingly fucking retarded, joke or not, I tend to take it as a hint of things to come.

So should I assume you let kdawson and timothy run with thier ideas and that slashdot is going to continue getting more and more retarded or do you actually plan on stopping this douchebaggery at some point in the near future?

Seriously, retarded idea. Please get a sense of humor, at least one capable of determine the difference between extremely annoying and slightly funny.

Adblock came in real handy today for those videos.

I agree with you. Throwing up a video that starts automatically is fucking stupid. What is this, Geocities?

Don't load the video if it pains you so (1)

charleste (537078) | more than 4 years ago | (#31700988)

Um. I recommend the plug-in "Flash Block". Or something similar. I never get "automagically starting" videos. So I was confused by this thread at first...

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#31701784)

Well don't bother turning it on - watching that crap is a total waste of time. Not sure where the content is coming from but ALL of them think they're funny and NONE of them are.

Not this one (1)

sean.peters (568334) | more than 4 years ago | (#31700970)

Yeah, I get it... April Fools day. I'm splitting a gut laughing. But for FSM's sake, why the hell did you make it so you couldn't freaking turn off the video, or at least the sound? And how about mixing some actual goddamn content in with the joke stories?

Slashdot on 01 April: even more of a waste of time than usual. I'll spend my lunch hour looking at some non-annoying website today, thanks.

Excellent Marketing! I wish I'd thought of that.. (1)

dschnur (61074) | more than 4 years ago | (#31700886)

You know, it's about time somebody made that link. Everyone who buys servers has at least one piercing or ten... Don't they? I don't go out much. I'll take the word of my cubicle-mate.

So on with it. This is the best marketing campaign I've seen since the classic "Buy an AppleII and get a free Yeti," or the most famous ever, "Get a new IBM PC and we will kill Charlie Chaplin's Ghost!"

Body piercings and servers. Brilliant!

Not surprising someone in the UK would come up with the idea.

Get a body pierces with each fsck error, they're just as scary.

Piercings no: Slashes yes. (1)

ipquickly (1562169) | more than 4 years ago | (#31705192)

I should wear gloves while moving my servers. (Or just get more expensive cases with fewer sharp edges)

Unlike in the story, the slashes can happen any day of the year.
