Teacher Gets Stolen Car Back, All Souped Up

samzenpus posted more than 4 years ago | from the upgrade-complete dept.

Crime 135

Police found Amanda Pogany's stolen 1996 Honda in a chop shop and were able to return it to her. While in the custody of the thieves, the car got a few upgrades, including a new V-8 engine, manual transmission, leather interior, tinted windows, and oversize tires. Unfortunately Amanda won't be able to play The Fast and the Furious around the neighborhood with her new souped up car. She doesn't know how to drive a stick.

Car modifications should be illegal (-1, Flamebait)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#31990572)

Companies need to do crash tests, noise tests, pollution tests... and then some airhead morons add 10k watts of audio power (boom noise), triple the car's horsepower (engine noise, pollution), put so-called racing (noisy) mufflers on their cars and can still drive them around? Something is very wrong with this whole situation.

Re:Car modifications should be illegal (2, Insightful)

DigiShaman (671371) | more than 4 years ago | (#31995620)

Cry me a river! Everyone talks about banning this and banning that. How about you just grow up and accept that people in a civilized world have different interests and hobbies. Why should we allow the few irresponsible to punish it for the rest of us law abiding citizens?

You want that 10K watt system? Turn is way down in residential areas. Want that 600+ HP engine crammed in a pocket rocket? Sure, but leave the racing at the track. Want aftermarket mufflers? Be tasteful about it. Unlike you Mr AC, we don't all want to live in a lock-step with each other and drive cookie-cutter bland vehicles. What we want, IS TO ENJOY LIFE and not be under the thumb of a bunch of busy-body-nanny-nosy people.

Re:Car modifications should be illegal (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32006722)

The problem is that 99% of the people who have 10K watt systems in their cars play it either without concern for those around them or even explicitly to annoy them. Others use residential streets to organize races at night, again just to piss off people.

Call the cops, you say? We can't report cars that we can't see because 10K watt systems can be heard from five blocks away and it's a bit hard to see license plates and car models and colors at night when they go at 50mph on a small two-way street. The cops aren't any help either because even if they show up they'll be 15 minutes late after the incident and the criminals can see them from far away because they leave their police car lights on.

It's a no-win situation. The only way to prevent those 1% of idiots from annoying the hell out of everyone else is to make the things they use illegal. And don't cite me American gun laws because I don't live in the USA and the rest of the planet thinks you guys are insane to let civilians have guns.

So you can't ID them and you can't catch them and they already break at least 2 laws (noise and speeding) but you believe they will stop if they would be breaking 3 laws instead of 2? Or were you hoping to have all cars pulled over and inspected for excessive stereo systems?

V8 engine? (1)

If this were true, I would be very interested in seeing it. Swapping a V8 into any Honda would require a ton of custom work.

Re:No V8 (1)

dave562 (969951) | more than 4 years ago | (#32003608)

Nah, not even a turbo. Just a standard VTEC motor with headers and an intake. Definitely fun to drive and decent on gas mileage, but still well under 200 horsepower.

Re:V8 engine? (1)

hairyfeet (841228) | more than 4 years ago | (#31998160)

Well I don't know about a Honda, but I have ridden in a Vega where they dropped in a small block V8. The thing had to have a wheelie bar in the back to keep it from flipping when he nailed it! Hell of a fun car to ride in though.

Re:V8 engine? (1)

newdsfornerds (899401) | more than 4 years ago | (#31999990)

The Vega upgrade would be WAY easier to do! I can't imagine how they got a V8 into such a small engine well. Their mechanic has some serious skills.

I bought my wife a brand new manual Subaru Forester... she very quickly learned how to drive stick! This teacher should stop whining and do the same... keeping this car will make her VERY popular with her male students!

Re:I for one. (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32003224)

If she were in my neighbourhood, I'd offer to teach her to drive with the manual transmission (not going to make any politically incorrect comments about teaching her to drive the stick. :-)

But your comment about her being popular with the male students might create problems for her if she does, somehow, keep the car. She may be accused of luring her students.

"But basically, I support the law http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1629374&cid=31995628 [slashdot.org] " - by clone53421 (1310749) on Tuesday April 27, @02:40AM (#31995628)

I see your comment quoted above there Clone, as well as you signature Clone in your attempt to libel others here on slashdot. So, isn't Jeremy Reimer the guy who had parts of his website removed for libelling APK by his hosting provider and Reimer was caught email harassing APK by his ISP, Shaw of Canada, when Shaw put Reimer on a tracking ticket for it (which Reimer promptly ceased his email harassment of APK once he was aware of that happening), and arstechnica strangely no longer puts up articles by the blatantly unqualified Jeremy Reimer?

Jeremy Reimer and his friends Jay Little also had their websites removed entirely from CrystalTech.com and from petitiononline.com also, because of their making death threats to APK just because APK showed that Exchange Server stalls due to memory fragmentation are stopped when a memory optimization program is used (microsoft's own called clearmem.exe) after Jay Little, whom Jeremy Reimer brought in because Reimer doesn't even have a degree in CSC or CIS related fields (not even an A+ cert, much less an MCSE or the like to his credit, much less actual degrees) or years to decades of professional hands-on experience in the trenches doing computer work, failed in stating verbatim "I am an Exchange Expert" and when Jay Little saw what APK put up, he tried to harass APK by nitpicking his posts at NTCompatible.com also, where Little stalked APK there and failed on issues regarding ramdisks/ssd and also Windows own error codes/crash codes which got Jay Little kicked from NTCompatible.com as it did on Channel 9 at Microsoft also? Seems that was what happened at Windows IT Pro here http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/41095/the-memory-optimization-hoax.html [windowsitpro.com] which anyone can read.

So much for your libelling others Clone. You can't even get that right and you certainly like lies and libel, which are against the law in the USA and in other nations also.

Clone, I also note that you also called APK, the person you refer to in your signature here, a "spyware maker" http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31736454 [slashdot.org] , but he noted that Nir Sofer and Dr. Mark Russinovich have also had many of their wares classified falsely as spywares too, and that he took CA's 21 point test and his app did not violate a single point of their test and they downrated his app to "zero threat levels" because of this. APK also put up the very first guide to securing Windows back in 1998 which was highly rated at Neowin in 2001 and grew into the most viewed and most effective guide for securing Windows NT Operating Systems out there currently at 350,000 views strong and being made a sticky pinned thread, an essential guide, or being the most viewed and being usually rated 5 of 5 stars by readers of his security guide for Windows such as here http://www.tcmagazine.com/forums/index.php?s=f94b12f3d43b3b9446bed90155910842&showtopic=2662 [tcmagazine.com] . At 350,000 views strong and with great feedback too, your calling him that shows you do anything but support the law, and regularly break it with libel on your part towards others clone.

Clone, You are a scumbag libelling little weasel clone, and now everyone will know how much so, after reading this reply. Just because you're a loser that doesn't have a job and because you've never done a thing in your life that's of service to others, doesn't give you the right to libel others who have, clone.

Why's Clone libelling others here? Geek Angst! (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32005616)

See subject above, and see how Clone tried to libel others here on this website via his signature and was proven wrong here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1632188&cid=31999288 [slashdot.org] .

Funny how that shut clone53421 up here -> http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1632188&cid=31999288 [slashdot.org] , eh?

Clone53421 is nothing more than a little out of work bum who can't get a job because he wastes his life on slashdot here libelling others (which is why he won't get a job, because his kind do this rampantly, and this is why suits against them are not worth it - nothing to be had in suing a "ne'er do well" like Clone53421 is why).

Why is Clone libelling apk? Ok:

Mozilla Firefox DOM Node Moving Use-After-Free Vulnerability:

http://secunia.com/advisories/39175/ [secunia.com]

Release Date 2010-04-02
Last Update 2010-04-06

----

Clone lost his behind in a debate with apk on FireFox http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/03/23/0415208/Germany-Warns-Against-Using-Firefox [slashdot.org] (when Germany warned vs. its usage, as they had for IE previous to that) here, regarding FireFox 3.6, which then forced a reissue of FireFox 3.6.2 (not 2.6.2 as Clone erroneously noted it there as also), but during the timeframe of that debate (03/23/2010 - 04/05/2010)?

LOL: FireFox turned up YET ANOTHER SECURITY BUG in their DOM during that debate's timeframe (see between dashed lines above), which forced an issuance of FireFox 3.6.3 on 04/06/2010!

Also, when that news of a NEW FIREFOX BUG came out?

Well - Slashdot's moderators "strangely closed that thread on Germany early" (NOT) in less than 2 weeks...

This libel of apk only showed Clone's poor defense of FireFox (inclusive of citing very old 3-5 versions out of date data on Opera bugs no less, version 9.52 & 10.52 just released today no less in final form) as erroneous, and that Clone is a sore loser.

Clone, face it: Opera's FASTER than FireFox in HTML parse & process work, plus javascript work too, and Opera shows less bugs over time than FireFox does, consistently no less... whether or not you can handle that or not, doesn't matter - you LOSE, as per usual.

Still - They're ALL pretty good browsers though, but this "little tidbit" from a "hacker-cracker/security researcher" MAY "shed a bit of light on the subject" of which browser to use (Because Opera's the overall FASTEST currently & especially on the MOST USED OS PLATFORM THERE IS ON PCs/Servers in Windows, & consistently over time, @ HTML parse work, & again has re-seized its crown in Javascript processing speeds as well, vs. FireFox currently (which typically, Opera led FF there as well over time MOST of the time too)):

----

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/25/pwn2own_2010_day_one/ [theregister.co.uk]

"The problem Microsoft has is they have a big market share, said Vreugdenhil, the hacker who attacked IE. "I use Opera, but that's basically because it has a tiny market share and as far as I know, nobody is really interested in creating a drive-by download for opera. The web at the moment is pretty scary, actually."

----

Nuff said, on the subject of which browser even the "hacker/cracker/security researcher types" use, & why (security-by-obscurity, @ THE VERY LEAST).

All the libelling of others online will not help you, once people see how you react in your "geek angst" when you lose poorly due to bogus libelling of others on this website, which makes you appear in your true nature of being a libellous online scumbag weasel.

Clone's his wife the "dancer"'s PIMP (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32005934)

All clone does is post here all day long, all through the day. It's pretty simple to figure out that he's not working in a real job, because they wouldn't allow it typically and I severely doubt that clone53421 has a computer science degree even based on the nature of his cut n paste replies of the words of others usually. I'd say the other ac is correct on that much on clone53421 not working, and clone53421 certainly wasn't correct on firefox by any means (the mods closed the thread early even which gave all of that much away, being the firefox fanboys they are here). I'd post under my regular account, but, then I'd have clone trolling me the way he has others here even to the extent of libelling them.

I also suspect you are clone53421 replying as I am, posting ac rather than my usual registered user account reply, as clone does rather than under his clone53421 account. He mods himself up under other registered account here as do others as well which fools no one either.

The only job clone53421 might have, is as his wife's pimp (from what I understand, she's a "dancer", which spelled sideways is nothing more than a hooker) lol.

Re:Clone's his wife the "dancer"'s PIMP (1, Funny)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32007684)

Funny how a lot of these Anonymous Cowards all misspell exactly the same word exactly the same way. And APK always misspelled that word too. It’s almost like they’re all APK and he thinks he’s fooling anyone.

Clone do you think you're fooling anybody? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32007946)

Your not. Clone53421, it is obvious you are now replying as ac, as is the option for us registered users if we wish. I actually took the time to check the links posted and it appears that your buddy Jeremy Reimer and his arstechnica friends got blown away by the very person you are trying to libel in your signature here. I went over to the Windows it pro mag forums as I am a subscriber and member there, and took a peek at what the other ac said about clone in response to his attempts at libelling others here in this apk person. Jeremy Reimer, and Jay Little of arstechnica had their websites either removed in whole or large portions (Reimer) for libelling apk with Jay Little being literally kicked from his hosting provider CrystalTech.com, and another site of his being removed at petitiononline.com in whole.

(Jay Little is whom that imbecile named Jeremy Reimer used, as his programmer henchman since Reimer knows squat about programming computers. Reimer used him as his 'technical expert', and Jay Little laughingly only got blown away when he stated "I am an Exchange Expert". Some expert. The ac named apk that clone53421 is libelling blew away Reimer and Little by pointing out that memory optimizers can unhalt a halted ms exchange server, by using one built by microsoft themselves in clearmem.exe)

Jay Little then later, after he outright ran in shame for his big mouth and having to eat his words at windows it pro mag, also got kicked out of ntcompatible.com as he did over at microsoft's channel 9 also for the same things when he pursued the ac apk (the one being libelled by clone53421 in his signature) to ntcompatible.com and Jay Little royally blew it there too, getting himself kicked for trying to troll apk's posts there.

Jeremy Reimer wouldn't give up, and in the end, his libelling this ac apk on his personal website did him in and Reimer's not one to give up when he trolls others though.

However, the law in a detective constable felton in B.C. (Canada) did the rest, Reimer and Little's hosting providers, along with Reimer's isp in Shaw of Canada who had Reimer busted for email harassment and put him on a tracking ticket which showed what Reimer and his arstechnica forums trolls were up to.

Re:Clone's his wife the "dancer"'s PIMP (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32012908)

If you are Clone as alleged by the other response to this comment, or if Clone is reading this, I really wouldn't worry at this point. The guy stalking him is doing an extraordinary job destroying his own reputation (and probably AFK's too) and is too boneheaded to understand this, even when it's spelt out to him or her.

It'd be somewhat ironic if Clone has, actually, done something wrong, but the stalker's comments are gibberish.

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32030258)

I think it's in incredibly bad taste to libel others as you have clone53421. You have to be a fool to do so to someone that's done well in this field as the ac apk has and just because he got the better of you in a technical debate here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31581472 [slashdot.org] with firefox showing 3 security vulnerabilities in 1 week (which was strangely closed early on the day the 3rd security vulnerability in the ff DOM showed up oddly) doesn't make you right for libelling he there and in your signature as you have been doing. Geek angst clone53421, that's your problem. Apparently you think you are better than you are at this science from what I have been seeing in your postings here and yet you haven't accomplished anything I know of that did well in computing. Your childish 'geek angst' retaliations only make you look like a petulant child, and have effectively ruined your reputation, not that you ever had a good one. You're not recognized for doing anything nice by others that I know of in the field of computing as the ac apk has been and when he asked if you ever have after you called him all types of names, you had nothing. You're a childish little boy clone53421 and everyone knows it now, thanks to your own stupidity and 'geek angst'.

Jeremy Reimer had the BC cops sicked on him (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32036694)

Jeremy Reimer he is a known troll http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1273561&cid=28382013 [slashdot.org] [slashdot.org] and oddly enough he tried the same on the ac apk at Windows IT Pro magazine forums, after he impersonated the ac apk on his own personal forums to which you linked and apk nicely asked that he please remove the impersonation of himself which Reimer even admitted was not the ac apk.

That ended up with parts of Jeremy Reimer's website being removed by his hosting provider for libelling this ac apk that clone53421 lost that debate on firefox to, as well as Jeremy Reimer's being put on a tracking ticket by his isp shaw of canada for email harassing apk which Reimer then promptly stopped because he was forced to.

Jeremy Reimer has no professional decades of experience in the sciences of computing so he brought in a 3rd rate visual basic coder named Jay Little to attack the ac apk on technical points there and when Jay Little stated "I am an exchange expert" is when the ac apk put up facts from Microsoft that showed that clearmem.exe a memory optimizer microsoft made can restart a stalled exchange server. This made Jay Little leave and try to attempt to discredit the ac apk on another forum called ntcompatible.com of which I am a member.

Jay Little blew it there on windows crash dump error codes and on ramdisk ssd usage which even another arstechnica member in dosfreak stated Jay Little was incorrect on.

This got Jay Little kicked out of ntcompatible.com for name calling like clone53421 does here as it did with Jay Little also being kicked out of Channel9 at Microsoft also. Jay Little then made death threats apk's way at petitiononline.com and on his own personal website at CrystalTech.com and like Reimer, Jay Little had his entire website removed by his hosting provider CrystalTech.com .

clone53421, you really need to cite a more credible source than Jeremy Reimer based on the above facts.

Re:Jeremy Reimer had the BC cops sicked on him (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32037422)

I'm beginning to think you are actually an enemy of AFK trying to discredit him completely.

If you really are APK, again, you might want to think of how damaging it is to your reputation to stalk someone who merely linked to something that reflected badly on you.

Clone's a scum and his source is worse in Reimer (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32037802)

It makes one wonder if Jeremy Reimer IS this clone53421, because all of a sudden, clone53421 has disappeared and now there is nothing but ac posts from him which obviously says the truth about clone53421 and Jeremy Reimer 'somehow' (sarcasm) really 'gets to him' (truth always does). I wouldn't go libelling people online clone53421 or using sources that have in the past like Jeremy Reimer, unless you also want the police in your area notified the same way and then you'll have to deal with it just like Jeremy Reimer your 'source' did, along with his isp in shaw canada putting Jeremy Reimer on a tracking ticket for email harassment, plus Jeremy Reimer (and his friend Jay Little) having their websites removed in whole or part from their hosting providers.

And why am I posting? Well, I enjoy a good train-wreck as much as the next guy. This is one of the most bizarre meltdowns I've ever seen. Hilarious - do you think you're fooling anyone clone53421? This is what others think of you here and Jeremy Reimer is a know-nothing scumbag who doesn't have a degree or even a certification in computing who got the police sicked on him after he had death threats directed towards apk (the person clone53421 is libelling here, but bad choice of source in Jeremy Reimer by all means) on his website, where Jeremy Reimer impersonated apk and admitted to it as well, and then his isp in shaw in canada put Jeremy Reimer on a tracking ticket for email harassment (which made Jeremy Reimer cease that, promptly) and then his hosting provider at that time removed parts of Jeremy Reimer's website for libel and the death threat material, and the exact same happened to Jeremy Reimer's fat pal named Jay Little (except his entire website was removed). Go ahead, tweet this post, all you like. It's hilarious and true. clone53421 couldn't have picked a worse 'source' for trying to libel the ac apk here.

Well, I was only referring to my original comment wondering what the hell he was doing, which was about two days ago. It had obviously been going on for a day or two before that, but I'm surprised by your link.

I have to say, I'm completely baffled by this one. I have no idea what the original argument was about, but, put it this way: I've certainly had arguments with people that went on for too long and drove me nuts, my normal response - and I assume the response of most sane people - is to walk away after a bit, make your point as calmly as possible, and let it go. Maybe have a final rant in a journal to get it off one's chest. This... this doesn't make sense.

See here where clone53421 opens his big mouth libeling others calling people here spyware makers and far more http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31736454 [slashdot.org] so, would I or anyone have gotten pissed off about that? Absolutely.. Clone53421's a ne'er do well that hasn't accomplished anything worth noting and thus he feels he has to spread his misery to others apparently by libelling them. Does he actually accomplish anything that anyone's noted as good online or otherwise from reputable sources?? No. He's trash, plain and simple. Clone53421 the "ne'er do well".

Re:What it's about is clone53241 libels others her (1)

squiggleslash (241428) | more than 4 years ago | (#32038998)

Well, if you're not a spyware maker then obviously it's unfortunate, but in the US libel does require an element of malice, and from some quick Googling, it does appear that multiple sources believe you are, indeed, a spyware author. They may or may not be correct, but someone can legitimately, in good faith, say you are one because it's very easy to believe you are.

I say this because I googled "Alexander Peter Kowalski [google.com] ". The very first link is this one:

How to Respond When People Threaten to Sue You on the Web [thorschrock.com] .

Now, in the above posting, you threaten the author of a spyware removal tool because his tool (and apparently others too) have identified one of your programs as being spyware. As with Jeremy Reimer and, indeed, Clone here, you were, apparently quick to yell "Libel", and your responses appear (to me - and I'm just giving you my honest opinion, this is how you're coming across to me) as hysterical and nutty. The impression anyone reading the article gets is not "My, Mr Kowalski has been given a very rough time, poor thing.", but "Some Spyware manufacturer is trying to intimidate anti-spyware people."

And, for what it's worth, doing some googling on the executable described by the above link continues the theme whereby apparently rather a lot of people are under the impression your software is spyware [spywaredb.com] . The first eight links I get when I Google are all from anti-spyware organizations, and the other two on the first page aren't flattering either.

Coupled with the fact that respected agencies such as CA are apparently standing behind their claim your software is spyware [ca.com] , there is nothing libelous about Clone's viewpoint. It might be wrong, I can't comment, I've never been privileged enough to have your software on my PC (I'm a GNU/Linux guy personally), but it's not a malicious written falsehood that damages your reputation.

So, no, Clone isn't libeling anyone here. Here's what to do about it if you're telling the truth:

  • Take a step back. Honestly, take a deep breath, and stop getting angry.
  • Determine why CA and others believe your software to be spyware. If there's an innocent explanation, give it. If there isn't, well, the difference between a spyware author who harasses those who point it out, and one who keeps quiet, is that more people hear about the allegations against the stalker.
  • Be the man. You've upset a number of people, and a quick Google reveals it to be more than Jeremy Reimer and Clone over here. If your software is being tagged as spyware then it rather suggests that intentionally or not, you've also upset a number of people who use your software. Fess up, fix the issues, and take some steps to mend fences between you and your critics.

I'm saying this not because I think you will, but because it's what you have to do. At this point, Alexander Peter Kowalski's name is mud. It's mud not so much because someone got confused and thought you were making spyware when really you were making the coolest app evah, but because you haven't handled the criticism of the app particularly well.

You're just another "not man" punk online and that's that, and I am not the only one saying it. See below. So, please: DO Go for it. You can't defame someone who is anonymous. You can libel an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation. "Anonymous Coward" is none of those.

Instead of hiding behind the "Anonymous Coward" label (which seems to be rather appropriate, n'est pas?), why not take two seconds and get an account. Suggestion: If you want to have any credibility, don't use some throwaway freemail address, like cowards and spammers and malware writers do.

Or you could keep on ranting about how "Anonymous Coward" is being defamed. I'm sure there are plenty of other "Anonymous Cowards" who will, tongue in cheek, say "I resemble that remark!"

Does your momma know you talk like that to people who try to play nice?

Libel (or more accurately, defamation - libel and slander are actually different forms of defamation - which you would know if you had a lawyer, but don't let that stop you ... ) has certain requirements, and clone54321's postings don't meet the standard. While the truth is no longer an absolute defense against libel, it's a pretty good one, as is the defense of opinion. "Statements of opinion or pure opinion are not actionable." I think you're an idiot. That's my opinion, publicly stated. It's not actionable, because (1) I think you're acting like an idiot, and (2) I'm entitled to express my opinion, (3) I'm not doing so in a "false light", (4) it's in the public interest that whiny idiots be called on it, (5) consent - by posting here on slashdot, you have consented to the community norms, which include labeling people who act like you idiots.

clone54321 benefits from the same defenses.

Hi, idiot! Or sock-puppet. Or whatever.

Deprecated? Hosts files still work and took the gent named Kings Joker quoted down from 200 viruses a month to only 2. He also stated he doesn't do the full guide and knows why he gets them, which is probably javascript. Many people can't do without it or use it on places they ought not to. I know. My girlfriend is like that and who gets stuck fixing it? I do. If she would just stop using javascript everywhere and limit it to only e commerce sites or banking ones I would have less to do that way for her. Also, what other methods do you use that you speak of?? DNS servers are full of holes. Dan Kaminsky found that much out. Using adblock only works for firefox. So tom hudson, what do you say to that?

Deprecated? Hosts files still work and took the gent named Kings Joker quoted down from 200 viruses a month to only 2

One or two viruses every month means it doesn't work.

Next you'll be claiming that one or two STDs a month means that you're practicing safe sex.
Or one or two child rapes a month doesn't make you either a priest or a pedophile.
Or that an under-age pregnant daughter or two means that fundie faith-based abstinence instruction works ... hello, Bristol!
Or that going to a gay bar once or twice a month to get pounded doesn't make you gay.
Or that binge-drinking once or twice a month doesn't mean you have an alcohol problem.
Or that one or two criminal convictions a month doesn't make you a felon.
Or (bad car analogy time) that one or two car accidents a month doesn't make you a bad driver.

See the pattern? One or two viruses a month is FAIL. You can no has cheeseburger. Or, to put it in simpler terms, your faith-based computing sux.

The best way is for her to simply switch operating systems. I haven't seen a single virus in the wild on any *bsd or linux systems (or even the aix box). The second best way is for her to get someone who knows what they're doing to take over from you. Maybe she can ask the kid next door?

Other solutions (you never said any), do? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32056406)

Your "other solutions" what are they then? Antivirus programs get false positives all the time. DNS servers are known to have issues, big ones, per Dan Kaminsky. Adblock only works on 1 browser family, and adblock itself can be detected for and blocked (big article here the other day about how arstechnica tried to do that and their users were outraged and they stopped no less).

Tomhudson, you talk a game but you offered no other details on your "other solutions" and the ac replying had to, for you.

Clearly, tomhudson, You're no expert, and you certainly have no case versus the above.

Also, nobody attacks Linux for example, because not enough people use it. Hackers/crackers are like pickpockets. They go where the most people gather, for the most opportunity is why. This is largely probably why the Opera webbrowser program has little hacking/cracking/exploiting done to it, versus IE or Firefox. I am not the only person noting that, this man did also, see this quote (because security by obscurity operates in Linux and yes, Opera's favor):

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/25/pwn2own_2010_day_one/ [theregister.co.uk]

You don't read very well, do you? CA has that app listed with ZERO THREAT LEVELS. It can be used to perform things both good and bad. APK wrote it for a fellow forums member in good faith no less, to launch old Apache server on Windows (which way back when, didn't run invisibly as a service so he wrote an app for a fellow so it would, that's all). However, like PING.EXE, and other wares, it can be a double-edged sword!

(Which that unqualified fool THOR SCHMUCK is aware of as well, because you don't see him filing suit versus apk now, do you? No. Thor SCHMUCK's just another nobody online and "neocheater" type, who at best, is merely an SEO optimization cheater)

Fact is, it appears that APK wanted to sue him for libel, and even contacted an attorney, along with suing CA too, and he has a winning case, but red tape and costs are in his way and I do not blame him.

(The legal system in this nation? It's for the wealthy and large corporate bodies - does anyone have to be told that? No. We all know it)

THOR SCHMUCK (lol) was notified on his page you cited in that regard, in regards to ping.exe as well as spybot search and destroy and apps from Nir Sofer and Dr. Mark Russinovich too even of Microsoft have had this happen to they (currently and in the past).

Why is APK's app at zero threat levels? Because it depends on the user and what he does with it. Ping can or could issue a ping of death for instance. Spybot search and destroy alters the hosts file, but in a good way. Did you know that CA's test was passed by apk on all 21 points and it is still listed there (though with zero threat levels now after he confronted CA's head of development on it in Mr. Greg Jensen. He was even informed by an attorney he had a winning case to the tune of $150,000 U.S. Dollars, but the costs of pursuing CA are far more than that.)

Besides, we used CA in my workplace, because we sold it so we tried it and it tore up our emails constantly. It's crap and it's why it is the 'bottom of the barrell ware' in commercial products.

Thor SCHMUCK (lol) whom you cited? He's NOTORIOUS and known as a SEO optimization cheater, which is why the first thing under apk's name appears so high in that list on GOOGLE. Do you know APK has done this too to his credit? See this list:

The problem is that anyone who threatens to sue and then doesn't follow through has zero credibility. Posting as an A.C. also starts with a score of zero credibility ... that adds up to Double Zero credibility. The Double Zero ( oo ) looks a lot like the symbol for infinity, so to most people it probably looks like you score $_INFINITE_MINUS_CREDIBILITY. Either that or NaN.

About what you'd expect from someone who makes spyware ...

... or programs so badly written that they look like spyware ...

... or spyware masquerading as a program that's so badly written that it "just accidentally looks like spyware", but that would probably be giving someone with $_INFINITE_MINUS_CREDIBILITY too much credit.

... unless it's really a s00per sekret plan that ... nah, couldn't be ... nobody's THAT stupid ...

Of course, that brings on the whole question of "is it even possible to defame someone who posts under the name "Anonymous Coward"? Methinks not - after all, you're ... ummm ... you know ... anonymous. So you don't fall into the groups that can be defamed/libeled/slandered/whatever - an identifiable individual, business, product, group, government, or nation. ;-p

(cue Bugs Bunny saying "What a maroon!")

I'll just quote the person you gave a hard time to over there on that because I am basically wondering the same and would like to see your proof too, thanks:

Oh, really? Care to show me a legal precedent OR ruling of that being the case, were I switching IP addresses to overcome the "10 posts per 24 hour limit" on AC users? I sign off as APK, so I am NOT "misrepresenting myself" here, in case you hadn't noticed, lol!

You also stated that YOU are being stalked? clone53421, you did the same to this very guy apk you were was bothering there and its stated from the outset.

Once more, clone53421 the bullshit artist with "legal options he can exercise" doesn't seem too credible, intelligent, and is a stalker of others himself. You are pitifully stupid clone54321, you know that? The very things you said the ac apk was doing to you, you do yourself and worse. Amazing, and you wonder why you are being shamed now like this? See subject and prove what you stated here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1633414&cid=32040320 [slashdot.org] because I'd like to see proof that it was this apk person you have clearly libeled, trolled (through 3 different threads this past week), and lied about.

The ironically funniest part was how You clone54321 were shot down in your desperate attempt to discredit him, and you hilariously picked Jeremy Reimer from arstechnica who was busted with police being called on him for death threats to apk on Reimer's very website you used, which resulted in his forums having large tracts removed of that material and libel of apk (and his henchman below had 2 whole websites removed by CrystalTech.com), also for email harassing that apk fellow Reimer's ISP put him on a tracking ticket which made Reimer cease and desist the email harassment, impersonating him on his forums and when asked nicely to remove it?

Reimer then pursued apk to Windows IT Pro magazine with a "henchman" in a fat pig named Jay Little who said he was "an expert on Microsoft Exchange" where apk shot that down and Jay Little that obese hog with it, with proof from Microsoft themselves, using their own tty/console mode clearmem.exe app to show that due to memory fragmentation, Exchange servers are KNOWN to stall and what stops it? Memory Optimization programs. He also corrected 'the great russinovich''s work no less, a PHD, who hardcoded paths in his apps (a rookie move) and he ended up thanking apk for it, and lastly, apk predicted VISTA would fail, due to memory and caching (which it did on file copies and the fix? Alter caching in the memmgt section of the registry, here -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920739 [microsoft.com] ). So much for PHD's, because as was said in "the serpent and the rainbow'? Mozart could give any Harvard PhD a run for his money. Not only did apk give Dr. Mark Russinovich a "run for his money", he outright floored him in the end there.

Did you really think you could outthink and outfox that person?

You tried to on firefox 3.6's bug where Germany said to avoid firefox like they did for IE earlier, but never for opera, and you said they did, lying. Unbelievable. Then, ff issued 3.62 to cover that, & oddly the mods on this forums closed that thread 2-5 or so days earlier than usual. Why? I suspect because the last day that thread was open, firefox turned up yet another unpatched security vulnerability, which would have iced you totally (even more than you were already being dusted there already) by showing that apk is correct that ff gets a lot more bugs than Opera ever does, and takes longer to patch them typically also.

So the usual result from you, is libel and name calling as you are doing here with your insinuations as you did here, you did there. You are too predictable troll (clone54321), and because of that, very simple to out think and out maneuver.

So all that aside after I read through all of this, I had to sound off here on it because you have done the same to me clone54321 you dirty troll. So, show us where apk said that please. It wouldn't really matter if he did because you did indeed libel him here on many accounts like calling him a spyware maker which I also would be steamed about were I he too, and much more, many more times.

Show us where apk said what I quote above. I get the feeling troll, er, I mean clone, will not do so. However we'll see. If he can't put up, he ought to shut up and quit while he is behind already. He looks quite the fool with others calling him a douchenozzle here already, lol!

You're the kind of guy that the jocks beat the hell out of, made you do their homework, and they banged your woman right in front of you and tossed her sorry ass to the curb. Why? They had to downrate it to zero threat levels. Call him yourself, Mr. Informative (for what? self-modding himself up to +5 "informative" via alternate registered user account logons here? Clone's the type that does that because no way would 1 sentence above be a +5 on any sane forums, quite obviously). Fact is, he probably has a $200,000 libel suit possibility like he said because not only did CA do that, but they posted it without his knowledge, and by using another name than his own (middle and last name only, not his first name). The same has happened to Dr. Mark Russinovich too and his tools also. Same with Nir Sofer of Nirsoft.

Clone? You are a laughing stock here now.

Your other "credible source" (not in THOR SCHMUCK haha? Another no degree and no decades of pro experience in the trenches like apk has either, just like your second source Jeremy Reimer the known troll and charlatan).

Knowing that much, any being misled on your part and posting in good faith calling apk a spyware maker might be excusable. Doing it many times after that? Libel. Your "good faith" bullshit excuses are gone with the dawn.

clone53421 has no reputation. He is a nobody (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32028130)

What reputation does clone have? He hasn't done anything good in computers that I have ever seen in respected publications or that helps others by the truck load as the ac apk has done and posted in that debate when clone called him all types of derogatory names like a frustrated child would. Clone53421 simply blew it in a debate on firefox where Germany said to stay clear of firefox as they had for ie also here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31581472 [slashdot.org] . That forced firefox to issue ff 3.6.2 1 day later (even though Timothy the news article poster stated it would only be fixed later that month, an error on his part by not updating that article footer I feel) and the last day of that article being open for posting comments is the day that ff turned up its DOM error, the moderators closed that thread early no less because it made ff issue 3.6.3 before the ac apk could bring that to light to show clone53421 that Opera doesn't have 3 erorrs in 1 week in security vulnerabilities, and ff did. That's how I see it after reading that outrageous display of childish geek angst that clone53421 displayed there.

You may be right - the clone moniker is a pseudonym unlinked to any particular person after all - but if you are it makes your actions all the more ridiculous. You've essentially spend two days running a harassment campaign against someone you consider a "nobody" and simultaneously made a fool of yourself. Nobody reading this is thinking "Wow, this APK fellow is a stable, sensible, fellow who has been libeled by this awful clone person", they're thinking "What a tool."

That's assuming they haven't read this [jeremyreimer.com] , of course, in which case they already were thinking that.

I tried yesterday to tell you you were acting out of line, that if you had a legitimate beef you weren't exactly expressing it by positng incoherent rants and stalking clone with them. You're doing it today, and it's becoming more and more obvious, especially to anyone who's tracked down the actual source of the conflict, the publication of the link above, that you're an utter kook.

I sincerely suggest you might be better off removing yourself from this part of the Internet for a while, cooling down, and spending some time asking yourself which is actually more damaging to your reputation - some posts you made nearly a decade ago, or what you're doing now.

Jeremy Reimer is the laughingstock of the internet (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32028274)

I read the reply here in this thread http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1631698&cid=32005616 [slashdot.org] and it said it all. clone53421 simply messed up and now he is having a tantrum by trying to libel otehrs. clone53421 is a poster here who was responded to, can't you read?

As to Jeremy Reimer he is a known troll http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1273561&cid=28382013 [slashdot.org] and oddly enough he tried the same on the ac apk at Windows IT Pro magazine forums, after he impersonated the ac apk on his own personal forums to which you linked and apk nicely asked that he please remove the impersonation of himself which Reimer even admitted was not the ac apk.

You need to cite a more credible source than Jeremy Reimer my friend.

You need to cite a more credible source than Jeremy Reimer my friend.

I'm not your friend, I'm not "citing" Jeremy Reimer (I mentioned people may already believe you're a tool because they've read that particular comment, I didn't say that you're a tool BECAUSE of what that comment shows - I actually said you're a tool because of the meltdown you've had here. Stalking someone over a signature pointing at an article that shows you mishandled a situation where some comments appeared under your name you didn't want appearing under your name? Seriously?

I tried to help a couple of days ago by posting a friendly word of warning that you making yourself look ridiculous. Instead of taking that on board, you pretended I was Clone somehow trying to discredit you, despite the fact the comments were clearly aimed at your ears and not at anyone else. You've continued to act exactly the same way as when I first warned you, and each time you post, you make yourself look more and more of a kook.

Put yourself in the shoes of anyone reading this. In response to all of the comments made by a particular Slashdot poster who happened to have a sig you didn't like (and by the time I read your first diatribe, that sig was changed, you continued posting these responses long after the offending signature was removed), you've posted increasingly hysterical attacks that have nothing to do with the comments you're replying to.

And you're claiming, if I understand your latest comments correctly, that you're a journalist? If this is how you act in response to criticism, how long do you think you'll be able to keep that gig?

Jeremy Reimer is a "pseudo-journallist" who had the police called on him for all of this:

Jeremy Reimer he is a known troll http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1273561&cid=28382013 [slashdot.org] [slashdot.org] and oddly enough he tried the same on the ac apk at Windows IT Pro magazine forums, after he impersonated the ac apk on his own personal forums to which you linked and apk nicely asked that he please remove the impersonation of himself which Reimer even admitted was not the ac apk.

A detective Felton of British Columbia Canada was informed of it all also, and Reimer ceased his lunacy at that point.

Jeremy Reimer has no professional decades of experience in the sciences of computing so he brought in a 3rd rate visual basic coder named Jay Little to attack the ac apk on technical points there and when Jay Little stated "I am an exchange expert" is when the ac apk put up facts from Microsoft that showed that clearmem.exe a memory optimizer microsoft made can restart a stalled exchange server. sopssa (1498795) | more than 4 years ago | (#32041344)

It's an endless battle with APK. He has done this same thing in several other slashdot stories. He thinks I am Clone too, or for that matter anyone is who tells him how ridiculous this all is.

When he answers to this post, he will say I'm Clone because I followed a link to an earlier thread and posted [slashdot.org] a "lol at this conversation" there as a last comment just before the story closed. After that APK followed me for days and harassed me about that comment, claiming I was Clone and that I was out there to fight him.

And like noted in that thread too, if Slashdot didn't close the comments after a while, he could go on for years, like he has done in this single article for the past 6 years [windowsitpro.com] with himself. The last comment from APK is from 3/15/2010. The article was released December 30, 2003.

the ac apk was correct though (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32055976)

apk was correct on that much in my subject above. clone54321 and yourself seemed to say that firefox did not and that it was as secure as opera, but I did not see opera have 3 security bugs in 1 week, firefox did. End of subject because that ac apk was correct and had data to back it up. No matter what you say, I can read, and found it informative and interesting until clone54321 began to libel that ac apk and just because the ac apk got the best of him with facts and data in that article where Germany warned to stay away from firefox like they had for ie before that. As to slashdot, they usually don't close an article after 2 weeks. Closing one about firefox where it was said to be avoided when it showed 2 bugs in a row in 1 week and then another in the same week for a total of 3 would probably get the firefox fanboy club here in an uproar, but closing a thread because a program shows 3 bugs in 1 week looks to me like it is almost like that fact's being covered up by slashdotters here. I also saw no article about why firefox 3.63 had to be issued, but it was because the DOM error that cropped up in it. It just looks fishy seeing slashdot close a thread early because some ac was correct about firefox showing 3 bugs in 1 week and the browser he liked in Opera being free of security bugs is all I am saying. As to the Windows IT Pro article, when apk showed that using Microsoft Exchange mail servers they can freeze up due to memory fragmentations and he pointed out that Microsoft's own memory freeing program clearmem.exe stops that from happening. He seemed to come out on top sopssa. Say what you like sopssa, but that ac apk came out on top there too, just as he did versus yourself an clone54321. Perhaps that's why he has actually been noted in publications he posted as doing good works and has commercial programs to his name, whereas yourself and clone54321 have nothing even remotely close to your credits, perhaps?

I read that debate and my thoughts (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#32028164)

Clone53421 simply blew it in a debate on firefox where Germany said to stay clear of firefox as they had for ie also here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31581472 [slashdot.org] . That forced firefox in version 3.6 to issue ff 3.6.2 1 day later even though Timothy the news article poster stated it would only be fixed later that month, an error on his part by not updating that article footer I feel and the last day of that article being open for posting comments is the day that ff turned up its DOM error, the moderators closed that thread early no less because it made ff issue 3.6.3 before the ac apk could bring that to light to show clone53421 that Opera doesn't have 3 erorrs in 1 week in security vulnerabilities, and ff did. That's how I see it after reading that outrageous display of childish geek angst that clone53421 displayed there. Fact is, I say you are clone53421 trying to cover up the mess you made for yourself clone53421 because you haven't done anything worth noting in this science and the ac apk also pointed that out where by comparison he has and it was shown in that debate and when clone was asked if he had ever done the same like having his work appear as a finalist at Microsoft TechEd 2 years in a row in its toughest category of SQL Server Performance Enhancement, that set clone53421 off because he was struck speechless being unable to show anything like the dozen points that the ac apk put up to his credit where clone53421 had none. Clone53421 that's what you get for doing nothing but posting on slashdot all day instead of doing decent things for others in the sciences of computing. Clone53421's lack of visible accomplishment in the sciences of computing and silence on that account showed that much upon reading that debate but his childish name calling made me think he is nothing but a frustrated fool who was reduced to derogatory name calling.

I understood it perfectly. Can't you read, or are you just clone53421 trying to cover up for his own 'geek angst'? I also noted clone53421's idiotic stupidity in posting a url in his posts and signature that only pointed to Jeremy Reimer a known online troll, lol. So much for clone53421's attempts at appeasing what others here are calling his own "geek angst" because he defended firefox versus opera and lost badly and had his weak attempts at upsetting others fail on him terribly because he cited a known troll online, here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1631698&cid=32028274 [slashdot.org] .

Once MIGHT be excusable, as you were misinformed by that moron Thor Schrock, but apk told you he called CA's Greg Jensen and passed their 21 point test for malware removal, and though they did not remove his single app (of 50 or so online)?

Show us where apk said what I quote above. I get the feeling troll, er, I mean clone, will not do so (and he called others and apk crazy? Well lets see if clone's having his usual "convenient truths and hallucinations" shall we?).

However we'll see. If he can't put up, he ought to shut up and quit while he is behind already. He looks quite the fool with others calling him a douchenozzle here already, lol!

Once more, clone53421 the bullshit artist with "legal options he can exercise" -> http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1591778&cid=31746938 [slashdot.org] (ahem: *cough* "BULLSHIT" *cough*) doesn't seem too credible, intelligent, and is a stalker of others himself. You are pitifully stupid clone54321, you know that? The very things you said the ac apk was doing to you, you do yourself and worse. Amazing, and you wonder why you are being shamed now like this? You had it coming. Jerks like you are what ruin the internet.
