Hey, some of us don't do it to "look amusing". Some of us put a coat on our dog in the winter because we live in the bloody cold north and have a short haired breed that originates in the desert. Some of us put boots on our dog in the winter because otherwise she gets blisters on her paws from walking on the ice (again, we live in the bloody cold north), and besides, we don't want wet paw prints all over the house after she returns from her walk. And some of us put sunglasses on our dog in the summertime be

This is, presuming your are male, because you have no children of your own. If, amazingly, you do have children, then you are Very Bad Man, who deserves his testicles chopped off.

That is, in fact, irrelevant to what I said. Calling someone a "sad, sad person" is not a statement relating to anyone's emotional state.

However, I will note that if you think making random children act like adults is cute, that makes you even sadder than the fact that you inanely think that anyone else should. There's nothing "cute" about it, especially since -- inevitably -- it is someone trying WAYYYY too hard.

Kids are cute on their own. They don't need moronic adults screwing it up.

Ah! You've been spammed with something similar to this... THERE's your problem. The only regular exposure I have to those ads is you people, propagating their brand capitalization of your own free will. I just lol'd at the terrorist bunnies and thought the production values were sharp without cringing at the memory of spam at the first sign of a CGI'd baby.

Wait... I thought those television CGI babies talked? I remember that because it annoyed me.

    • Nope, you are not. I thought this vid was funny and cute. I would have had him fighting some more realistic villain, such as the ever evil Nanny. Oh and had him getting it on with some milk-a-holic floozy at the beginning of the clip.

    • What I said in the title, WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!

You see, there is a very popular movie sequel out this summer called Iron Man 2 based on a comic book of the same name. It's about a rich guy who builds a suit that flies and beats up bad guys.

In an attempt to parody the movie, some people replaced "Man" with "Baby" and made a short clip that resembles the movie in many ways, including the suit and fighting bad guys.

      But with a baby.

If you are still confused, try google.

  • I hate this garbage with a passion. I guess I'm supposed to believe it's cute, but it just looks awkward and creepy. A baby is cute because it does baby things, not because it runs around doing things an adult would do. This is even worse than those obnoxious Etrade commercials but admittedly not quite as bad as Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2.

This site isn't about funny video clips someone found. There are tons of sites devoted to compiling funny video clips.

This "article" was nothing more than kdawson enjoying a video and posting it to the front page. There was no commentary/summary included besides "When Iron Baby wants O's, Iron Baby gets O's.". This tells me nothing about it. This tells me nothing about why it's on the page. I have no information as to why it's _any_ type of "news".

This front page "article" was nothing more than what I typically find in a humorous work email where a co-worker found a video he thinks I might enjoy.

Slashdot, last I checked, was about news or something resembling it. It's about intelligent (at least respective to other sites) discussion about the article/summary/information/technology. Slashdot is not about posting a cute video you want to share with people.

If you want to do that, that's fine, but find a "news" angle with it. Maybe this was made by a college kid with free software. Maybe it's a project to raise awareness about something, I don't know. But if the editor merely wants to post a video with the text "When Iron Baby wants O's, Iron Baby gets O's.", submit it to Ebaumsworld or another "joke" site.

We're "grumpy" because this was a sheer and utter waste on Slashdot. Ya, Slashdot can be considered a waste of time on someones scale of relevancy to life, I get that. But Slashdot is a site we go to to learn, not have "cute" videos pushed to the front page. The problem is that now we have precedent that a cute enough video with no summary will be front page material. Why not cut to the chase and just have every other "article" be a funny picture, say a lolcat that kdawson found amusing and then later they can put up the video of the redneck rollercoaster [youtube.com] because they thought that was hilarious.

Oh, I found a funny picture on failblog [wordpress.com], that should be front page too!

      • No, you're right, it's not about RANDOM video clips. This, however, involves both comics (a known geek-related item) and some high-tech wizardry (also within geek purview). This isn't "Aunt Linda drops the potato salad." There are relevant aspects to this post that speak for themselves. Seriously, not sure what prompted such a backlash. It's not like /. is going to become YouTube.

  • and certainly not "stuff that matters"

    But definitely well-done.

  • The short film is directed by Patrick Boivin [wikipedia.org], and it seems to have nothing to do with the original movie. It is amazing how a small team can make such high quality film that look almost the same as the real movie.
  • Somebody did this in their spare time? I say pretty impressive, even if it is silly. The comments would probably be more favorable if it was Jedi Baby, or Star Trek Baby.

  • ok so it IS a joke without a punchline and another weird-baby thing... but this is not a baby's face plastered on existing scenes.

This is very impressive production quality.

  • Ok, it was clever in a sort of averagey way, not massively funny or amusing. No Iron Nappy being changed or the kid being sick in the suit or anything that would cause it to go viral in the way that bodily fluids do.

Maybe it was just a part of someone's college project or something.

  • Should have known straightaway that this was made by Patrick Boivin, he is quite the artist. Check out his Stopmotion work on Youtube, it's very well done!
  • In Germany here is what shows when you try to watch the video: This video is not available in your country.

I don't think too many proxies would be to happy to have to pump youtube videos through.

This whole 'you cannot watch it in this country or in that country' is ridiculous.
