Big Brother Barbie

Toys 10

nonprofiteer writes "Mattel's holiday creation is Video Girl Barbie, which comes with a hidden camera installed in Barbie's torso. The lens is disguised as a necklace. The Barbie can hold up to 30 minutes of video, and then can be hooked up to a computer for uploading. Experts are worried about pedophiles taking advantage of posted Barbie footage. I'm worried about the havoc that little girls with hidden cameras are going to wreak."

Experts say what? (1, Funny)

Are these experts from the same league as acclaimed "republican strategists" from Fox News?
I've never heard of anything so stupid. I can see the witch hunt is alive and well.

There is an awesome episode in Seraphim Call where the entire episode is shown from the POV of a teddy bear a girl gets as a gift. The entire episode consists of her dressing and undressing just off camera, or the bear falls over, or any number of reasons the view is obscured, before finally she's about to change right in the middle of the room and a cop shows up and removes the camera from the teddy bear.

3 Steps... (0)

1) Camwhore self using doll
2) Give doll to unsuspecting male
3) Profit (as you sue the dude for attempted outrage of modesty)

What could possibly go wrong? :)

You would have to review the footage. How much more "could go wrong" do you need? *Shudders*

February called, they want their news back []

Also your link doesn't say a word about pedophiles, and Fisher Price already makes little pink video cameras for toddlers 3 and up [] and the Nintendo DS has had a camera since 2008 [] . Fisher Price even had a camera for kids 8 and up way back in 1987 []

If you're worried about children taking inappropriate photos or videos and uploading them it's too late, cameras have been marketed to kids for many years and I haven't heard any stories about young children uploading inappropriate videos. More fear mongering at it's best, what's next souping and trampolining? []

Oh Brother, Barbie. (2, Informative)

Well to be fair you can get a 640x480 webcam-quality recorder shaped like a car starter for approximately 15$... so it's not like this level of surveillance wasn't possible until now... ...

But it does make me cringe to think about gifts from creepy stepfathers.

I never trusted that doll. Didn't when I was a kid and definately don't now. What's next, Cylon Barbie? Barbie, there are many copies....and they have plan...

Back when I was in command of the Gi Joes....... (0)

we launched many assaults on the Barbie hideout. We controlled the technology available to them, they would never have had this equipment. We would just pop their heads off. Where are the Gi Joes now? Shameful.

I guess this gives the female point of view on everything, literally. I would not be surprised if it had a secret wi-fi connection to the FBI or some other LEA. However, if you think that this is creepy, this pales in comparison to the following [] (no batteries needed):
