Re:First... (0, Offtopic)

Actually, this isn't offtopic. Look at all the spam that follows - just shows that people don't care about America's scapegoat for all the world's problems. However, my 1st was kinda naughty - but it had more of a troll flavouring than an offtopic smell to it.

Re:First... (1)

hairyfeet (841228) | more than 3 years ago | (#36003292)

Not only that but it is amazing to me how the MSM of the entire planet is buying this bullshit! You telling me the US military, the same bunch that files EVERYTHING in triplicate, didn't take any pics of the body? Which they just so happened to bury at sea so you can't even do an autopsy to see if it is the right guy or if he was a little moldy, like say, ohh I don't know, he has been dead since 2004?

Maybe if every blogger starts screaming bullshit we might get some answers but I have a feeling short of a Payton Manning Wikileak style info theft we won't be getting the truth from this cabal. For those that don't know here are the facts: FACT...We have not seen a single moving video of OBL since 2004 ALL that has been released since then is a voice over still pictures. FACT..the only evidence we've had that OBL was alive was the CIA saying "yep that scratchy badly done video has his voice. Uh huh, yep" FACT..OBL had documented failing kidneys in 99 and had been treated in 2000 and supposedly 2002 for kidney failure. FACT..one does NOT survive on dialysis very long and certainly not in the backwoods of BF nowhere without state of the art treatment, I don't care HOW much money you have!

We're being conned folks, the bullshit is waist deep and rising. The PTBs got their wars and now they needed to kill off their bogey man, so they dump a body at sea and say "yep the bogey man is dead!" and not a single new org is questioning the fact there isn't so much as a snapshot, or the burial at sea, or anything? Well you know what, I killed Jimmy Hoffa! That's right, I shot the man dead while he was on the shitter. Of course I don't have a body, haven't showed you any picks of me standing over his dead ass, but yep, I killed Jimmy Hoffa so where is my book deal?

Re: Photos. (1)

tomhudson (43916) | more than 3 years ago | (#36006282)

I can see numerous reasons not to post the photos, at least not immediately:

  1. Why provide further material for you enemies to use to help recruit even more people to their cause?
  2. The burial at sea could be used to identify the vessel (or at least type/class) - from there, knowing the class, and which ships of that class are in the area, identify the crew. Again, any photos or video would have to be sanitized - and then the tinfoil brigade would shout "fake"!
  3. He wasn't living in any cave or backwoods area - he was living in a million-dollar house, and apparently had just come from another such place 3 days before he was killed. "Hide where they least expect you."
  4. If al queda has any proof that bin Laden has been dead all these years, now it would serve their purpose to release it, to discredit the US and Obama. Instead, there've been calls for retaliation - which means they also believe and confirm that the US killed bin Laden Sunday.
  5. bin Laden knew that debate about his continued existence would weaken US resolve to go after him - better to leave some doubt all these years.
  6. bin Laden also knew that it would be possible to analyze pictures for details that could be overlooked - so much so that it's safer to release old photos with tapes. Especially if he wasn't living in caves, which we now know to be the case.
  7. We don't know if bin Laden had only temporary kidney problems, or chronic kidney disease. Even with CKD, people have been known to live 25 years or more.
  8. Even people who would not support bin Laden would tend to look poorly on having pictures of him dead being paraded around as a way of "boasting".

Add all these up, and there's no reasonable doubt - they got bin Laden on May 1st.

Nah, there will be months/years of High Alerts because of revenge attacks.

Terrorism is the gift that keeps on giving, even more so than paedophiles.
With child porn you have to show some results at some point.
The 'terror threat' is the ever present bogey man where 'no results' just means you've been successful in stopping attacks.
Any terrorism that does occur gets you increased funding.

I like cowgirl, its nice and leaves your hands free for lots of naughty touching. You do have to be careful if you girl has nice large breasts though, as you'd be surprised how heavy a female breast can be and head injuries are never sexy.

As for TFA, is this even news? I remember the same crap back in the late 80s with that Wall Street crash, Black Tuesday or whatever its called. "Spamers use headlines" news at 11. They did the same with Katrina, they did the same with the start of the war in Iraq, they did the same with the Y2K scare, hell they did it with tennis players boobies. Anything they think will get you to click a link they'll use, and just because the headline is a supposedly dead terrorist doesn't change the MO one single bit.

Re:Yep - got me (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 3 years ago | (#36003612)

Off-topic, BUT, I like cowgirl too, as it allows me to teach my man a thing or two about how I like it. Not much danger of breast-related injuries either, as I'm a statistically-perfect 34C, and firm with it...

Back on-topic, I'm trollin this article for two reasons, 1) my disgust with America finally overflowing onto /., and 2) the topic wasn't going to illicit many Insightful responses, was it? so 3) realised that I would pwn easily if I started early, and I've never tried crapflooding...

Its easy to blame Windows users for downloading trojans, but the real question is why isn't anyone securing their websites?

Re:And this is news how? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 3 years ago | (#36001722)

Most websites today are built by people that have no idea what they're doing, the more bloat the better apparently, and of course everyone must make things datadriven (even when a simple php or even *gasp* plain html file would've been more then sufficient), combine the two, and you get SQL injections, and in term XSS to nice domains in the former eastern block or in China, then of course everyone also needs to put ads from 50 different ad peddlers on their page, the more intrusive the better, at any time at least 1 of these will be target by a malvertisment campaign. People should be legally accountable for damage caused by crap that used their page as a vector, maybe the first wave of lawsuits against some of these ad resellers will change things, but I very much doubt it.

US beheads hydra, saving world from terrorism (1)

David Gerard (12369) | more than 3 years ago | (#35999542)

CHRISTIANABAD, Pakistan, Monday (NTN) — President Barack Obama has announced that the hydra has been conclusively beheaded [newstechnica.com] by US forces in Pakistan.

Mr Obama said it was "the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat the hydra. We can all rest safe now."

A US official said the hydra's head had been buried at sea, to prevent the grave becoming a shrine. "But trust us — we got the actual hydra, all right. You know how good we are with getting this stuff right."

World leaders expressed their relief at the hydra having been utterly and completely stopped by cutting its main head off, except those party poopers at Hamas who dared suggest there were people who might be annoyed.

For many, the bigger question is whether, in the longer run, the hydra's organisation can survive. "The absolutely final and complete really truly killing of the hydra puts the group on a path of decline that will be difficult to reverse," said the President.

"I suddenly feel much better about America and no longer have any thoughts of revenge whatsoever," said one Afghan teenager whose entire family had been killed as collateral damage by a US bomb. "U-S-A! U-S-A! Coca-Cola! Fox News!"

US citizens are encouraged to apply to hold official celebratory street parties, under the close supervision of the Department of Homeland Security and the Transport Safety Administration, so that their freedoms may stay protected.

"Mission accomplished!" said Accounts Receivable at Halliburton.

Using this joyous occassion of government-sanctioned assassination to further their own goals. Selfish, selfish people. I'm disgusted at how low they have fallen. No standards at all. PLEASE, EVIL SCUM, DON'T ABUSE TEH INTERNETS WHILE THE USA MURDERS PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD.

Let us at least agree that Osama died as he lived: violently and without mercy.

I could see this coming, they love to take advantage of anything thats big in the news..

hmm..., strange (-1)

I read on CNN that "Operation targeting Osama bin Laden designed, executed to kill him rather than take him alive, U.S. official tells CNN. "

Why did not they want to take him alive? A lot of things could be learned about 9/11, attacks on passenger aircraft, etc. Now, nothing can be learned. Dead is dead.

Bin Laden wouldn't have said anything, he was a tough nut to crack.

Talking to the guy would have invited negotiation with him. Then millions in court costs as he's stuck in a jail somewhere. Following that would be the attempts at freeing him.

Fuck him, he's gone and the world's a better place.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

After I heard the news on the radio on the drive into work. I was expecting some SPAM dealing with this. Whether it be a chain letter or links to bogus sites with promises of the picture. Guess I'm more of a realist than a cynic.

So even in death, Osama bin Laden is hacking our computers.

Wait, that's not right...

just redirect /bin/laden to /dev/null, problem solved.

or play UNIX Navy Seal ... "cat Pb > /bin/laden" and fill him with lead.

The real way to spread malware in this case would be a headline like "Donald Trump obtains Osama bin Laden video" ...

Nothing but low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worms! Hanging's too good for em. Burning's too good for em! They should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive!

Bin Laden causes turmoil for the public!!!

Guess maybe you don't really die once you hit celebrity status.

Or is that if you get digitized on the interwebs?

Dang it, TSA better start groping my email for terrorist, or something.

Re:Even Dead (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 3 years ago | (#36005758)

Didn't you mean 'grep-ing your email for "terrorist", or something', or something (sic)?

"Call it a Night, Cowboy!" grrr... it was worth it. This article is pwn'd, reminds me of the /. of old, I don't know how I've done so well actually. The filters are lame. It's kept most sensible discussion off, and I can say I did a proper crapflood (including some damned insightful comments, if I do say so myself) before I died.

People will show their grandkids the /. archives one day and hold this article in high regard as the epitome of trolling. It might one day become a permanent reference on the "Slashdot Trolling Phenomena" page as both an example of "subtle" crapflooding, and politically motivated trolling, especially since hairy feet came along and made it worth something to me personally, forever, as well as thrilling and fun... We all know America is the new Rome. It had to be said. Thanks Hairyfeet. x

I'll stop it now. I want my Karma back - I'll never stop trolling, but I've had my fill of crapflooding for one lifetime. Thanks for the great party.

Now, you'd better let this one post /. ...

Ben Laden was malware. He has been fixed.

This is nothing new (1)

My colleague is an internet marketer. After hearing about Osama's death, he quickly made an 'Osama Bin Laden is dead' fan page and monetized off of it. Bought a domain relating to the page and then setup a CPA (cost per action) advertisement, one of those content blocker things. Him and I also did the same following Michael Jackon's death. He has made quite a living off of it, just by spamming social networking sites and users are duped by their own stupidity.
