Robot Film Festival Hits New York

Unknown Lamer posted more than 3 years ago | from the i-for-one-welcome-our-robotic-tired-jokes dept.

Robotics 20

An anonymous reader writes "Ever wonder what life will be like when the robots take over? On Saturday, some of us might get a glimpse, when the first robot film festival kicks off in New York. Botskers (robot Oscars) will be awarded and the event will feature a red carpet, robotically milled statuettes, a robot-human comedy duo, and a rock band with robot musicians playing backup. 'We are trying to focus on celebrating robotics and thinking about positive futures,' says festival creator Heather Knight of Marilyn Monrobot."

Don't forget to mention your humble dream to kill all humans.

Funny story, the script called for me to say "Yes", but I went another way.

What, like A Walk in the Clouds? Keanu was awesome.

I happened to see that movie because I like wine, Napa Valley, and nostalgic movies. How many other /.'ers would have that strange combination of interests?

In the front row... (2)

Will Tom Servo and Crow get front row seats? That could backfire.

Not for the viewers at home!

Do you want to go to the robot Oscars? (1)

dark_requiem (806308) | more than 3 years ago | (#36744324)

No thanks, I'd rather make out with my Monrobot...

They're giving out the minor technical awards. I think they're up to "writing".
That just leaves "Best Actor" and "Best Soft Drink Product Placement!"

Seriously, though, how many Futurama references can we come up with for this one? I can think of a half-dozen Calculon references off the top of my head.

Saw Heather Knight at the recent Freescale Technology Forum here in San Antonio, TX. She's doing some really great work!

Ok .. who here doesn't dream about a romantic evening with Heather K? What would be even more of a life changing event would be a dinner for three with Heather AND Jeri E.

Favorite Robot Authors (1)

Nom du Keyboard (633989) | more than 3 years ago | (#36837556)

My favorite current robot authors are (no particular order): Charles Stross (Saturn's Children), Elf Sternberg (his A.I. characters in The Journal Entries), Piers Anthony (Split Infinity/Apprentice Adept series), D.B. Story (pretty much everything), and Scott Westerfeld (Evolution's Darling is an amazing piece of adult fiction). There are aspects of each of their robot story universes that I'd love to visit (in Charles Stross's case in robot form :^). I wonder if any of them are going to be present, or recognized, at this festival..

Best Robot Game (1)

And for best robot game, my vote goes to: Machinarium [wikipedia.org] .
