Man Changes Name to "Mark Zuckerberg" After Facebook Sues Him

samzenpus posted more than 2 years ago | from the you-need-a-better-plan dept.

Cloud 113

An anonymous reader writes "This has to be the funniest Facebook name story in a while. Facebook disabled the account of Israeli entrepreneur Rotem Guez because he runs a business called the Like Store, where he sold Likes to advertisers. Guez countered by suing Facebook for deleting his accounts on the social network. Facebook countered with its own cease and desist letter. Guez didn't respond to Facebook's demands. Instead, he legally changed his name to Mark Zuckerberg. 'If you want to sue me, you're going to have to sue Mark Zuckerberg,' Guez reportedly told Facebook."

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a cosmonaut.

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say, thank you for being a friend.

Guez didn't say that, Zuckerberg did. Btw, my phone's autocorrect for Zuckerberg is hilarious.

they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the Tunneling Electron Microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe. I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest Facebook.

Meh, all you really see is the electron cloud surrounding the atom.
You need some neutron diffraction thingamajig to locate Facebook interest within the cloud these days.

Why would they have problems suing him? (5, Interesting)

OliWarner (1529079) | more than 2 years ago | (#38423816)

This guy's logic is well off. He's trying to harm Facebook by letting companies game it. He's a spammer.

I don't see how he thinks by changing his name is going to have any affect on Facebook's legal people. They'll just add harassment to the list.

And now that they know he's an idiot and an asshat and that Facebook (worth BILLEEEEEEEEEONS) has him in their sights, this will attract business?

Just another spammer (and probably failed pornographer) looking to make money without working.

And probably failed pornographer? I understand that spammers and porn sites go hand and hand, but in the future you may want to drop the assumptions lest you feel the wrath of my mod points. This is how misinformation gets spread. Some dumbass reads your post, and he refers to this guy as "a failed pornographer" as a matter of fact, and it gets telephoned around the world and the next thing you know he's a former child molester, serial-rapist, and non-Kosher spammer who kicked Frosty Piss' dog. Don't contribute to misinformation by starting it.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (5, Interesting)

Culture20 (968837) | more than 2 years ago | (#38424344)

Right now, he's got tech websites listing his problem. When Facebook lists "Mark Zuckerberg" as a defendant which they would be legally required to do (they can't say the man formally known as Guez), then every news station in the world will have a teaser of "Facebook sues Mark Zuckerberg, news at eleven." 11:00pm: "Later on tonight, we'll have a story about Facebook suing Mark Zuckerberg. But now, here's the weather forecast..." Millions of people will tune out after hearing the teaser, and will probably log on to Facebook to tell their friends that Facebook is imploding.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (0)

VortexCortex (1117377) | more than 2 years ago | (#38426418)

"Later on tonight, we'll have a story about Facebook suing Mark Zuckerberg. But now, here's the weather forecast..."

One minor nitpick: The above will never happen.

Weather predictions are the only things on the evening TV news worth watching through the corporate media filter; Ergo: It's ALWAYS one of the last, if not the very last stories, unless the weather is above average in activity, then it's on every station all day...

More likely:
"Stay tuned, Tomorrow may bring some Severe weather to your area, but first here's some bullshit about a three legged dog rescuing a baby, and also, Yet another installment of our "Retards are still use Facebook" feature. ... Please visit our website and follow us on facebook, and here's our twitter too -- SOMEONE PAY US ATTENTI--" ::click:: Weather report was over.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 2 years ago | (#38426652)

What the fuck are you talking about? I live in Chicago and the weather comes first thing on the news. Just an example I know others are the same way.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (1)

zippthorne (748122) | more than 2 years ago | (#38429186)

Well, in chicago, the weather isn't the most important thing to know. Or the hardest thing to predict. How many different ways can you say, "Cold and dreary" anyway?

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (1)

fafaforza (248976) | more than 2 years ago | (#38426758)

But not even Slashdot refers to him by the new name, but by the old name. So there isn't a "Facebook sues Zuckerberg" headline here, and likely other outlets will do the same.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 2 years ago | (#38426794)

"When Facebook lists "Mark Zuckerberg" as a defendant which they would be legally required to do (they can't say the man formally known as Guez),"

Uh - that's not correct. Apparently you have never heard of females changing their name after getting married.

Lets say that a debt is incurred prior to marriage and a name change. The suit would be brought with the current legal name, and clarification as to whom the defendant is by with a 'formerly known as' moniker. With regard to excluding as particular person with the same name, that is fairly easy to do as well. Just spell it out.

Re:Why would they have problems suing him? (1, Informative)

scubamage (727538) | more than 2 years ago | (#38427238)

No, not really. He is selling likes to companies that are trying to drum up business. If you think all of the people who are "liking" things are actual people, they're not. Basically suppose you are an online retailer trying to get noticed. You purchase 2000 likes, and 2000 fake people suddenly like your store. This causes you to show up higher in facebook's search rankings. Its not spam. Its a bit shady, but it has nothing to do with unsolicited email.

There are many perfectly legitimate reasons to dislike Google (most of them linked to Eric Schmidt's PR blunders) and Facebook, but when spammers with an entitlement complex sue them, I'm certainly not going to root for the spammer or criticize Google/Facebook.
