A Conversation with Rob Malda - Part Two of Three (Video)

Roblimo posted about 2 years ago | from the It-just-keeps-getting-better-and-better-and-better dept.

The Media 28

Yesterday we mentioned that Slashdot's 15th Anniversary is coming up in October. (Link to the cheezy song, I Read It On Slashdot.) Also, yesterday we ran Part One of a discussion with Rob Malda conducted by Jeff 'Soulskill' Boehm and Rob 'samzenpus' Rozeboom. Like Part One, Part Two is an audio interview with some photos laid over it, so you might want to listen rather than watch. And if this doesn't satisfy your, "What's Rob Malda up to?" curiosity, Part Three will be here Monday.

Who the heck is this guy... (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40933073)

... and why should I care what he says?

Re:Who the heck is this guy... (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40933153)

You mean Rob Limo? The guy, like ALL other editors, is a total douche who hasn't the slightest clue about technology, English, or journalism.

What does cheezy mean? PLEASE. PLEASE just end it now. It would be better for you and better for the rest of us, Rob Limo.

He's the guy that hosted Unsolved Mysteries.

Near-Bankrupt California Awards Hollywood $100M In (-1)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40933097)

"The California state Assembly Appropriations Committee has unanimously approved a bill extending the state’s film and television tax credit program for an additional two years, the LA Times reports. The current extension of the program that allocates $100 million yearly in credits expires next year. Industry proponents had hoped for a longer extension but lawmakers were skittish because of the state’s fiscal situation. The bill now heads to the full Assembly for a vote likely next week. The state Senate is expected to consider its version of the measure later this month."

Wait just a damn minute, I thought the rich weren't paying their fair share! Oh you mean just the rich that are disliked by the leftist establishment.

Leftists are liars, always and everywhere.

Has samzenpus made taco proud? (2)

damn_registrars (1103043) | about 2 years ago | (#40933185)

I would have to expect that the failure machine known as samzenpus would start by asking Malda if he is satisfied with the job he has done of further degrading this once-relevant technology site into a congregating place for conservative groupthink. The editorial reputation was pretty bad when Taco was here, now that samzenpus has more control it's become even worse.

Slashdot is a congregating place for conservative groupthink? I thought it was a congregating place for anti-IP groupthink and other than that didn't have a particular political bias (except that modding seems to favor left leaning comments).

Re:Has samzenpus made taco proud? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40933605)

I believe he meant conservative as in "cautiously moderate or purposefully low " not conservative as the ideology. He's arguing that the groupthink just repeats the "safe bet" thing to post for karma / attention, I believe.

Re:Has samzenpus made taco proud? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40934285)

And as someone who doesn't post under thier userid I'd say he's spot on in that regard. You can't say what you really think here unless you want to be modded down into oblivion. So much for tolerance and thoughtful discussion.

Nobody gives a fuck, taco (0)

Seriously. Who gives a shit?

fairly interesting (2)

Trepidity (597) | about 2 years ago | (#40933291)

That was actually a fairly interesting interview. I wouldn't have guessed Rob would be into frictionless sharing (albeit opt-in). "You post to Slashdot but you would never Tweet".

Although I wonder why "Slashdot TV" didn't videotape the interview? It's more like a radio interview with a gratuitous slideshow on it.

It's a real question. Step up and make your views known!

Let it go already dudes (both sides)!!! (1)

rodrigoandrade (713371) | about 2 years ago | (#40933499)

At the risk of being flamed into oblivion, I'll say it anyway:

1. Apparently no one cares about Rob anymore; no one is irreplaceable. So what's the point of these interviews again?

2. If a former employer decided to interview me just for kicks, I'd tell them to fuck off. I left the company for a reason. If I wanted to stay in touch, I wouldn't have left in the first place.

bungo (50628) | about 2 years ago | (#40933821)

Well, it's not earth shattering news, but it's interesting..... ok, maybe it's only interesting to people who were reading /. back in '97, but it's still interesting.

Well, it is not an hiring interview. That's a journalistic interview. I gladly collaborate with places I worked before. I am still in quite good term with them.

Waste of time. (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40933767)

Don't waste your time. This is like watching the Cardassians bicker among each other...sorry, Kardashians.

The only good thing about this entire thread is the captcha I just got: erected.

Irrelevant. (2)

heptapod (243146) | about 2 years ago | (#40934407)

Post a transcript if you're going to post a video. This isn't reddit (yet). Much faster to read than it is to sit and watch something.

No link to the original ogg/webm? Lame.

Sad to see /. perpetuate one of the most horrible pieces of proprietary crapware on the web. Next time, try HTML5.

Audio podcast? (1)

mattack2 (1165421) | about 2 years ago | (#40937641)

Since it mentions we may want to listen instead of watch, how about making these available as an audio podcast? (so I can listen on the go at 2x)

Who is Rob Malda? (1)

So now /. is resorting to interviewing past editors? When is the multi-part story on Jon Katz coming out??

boycott auto-sharing articles in facebook (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#40940589)

One of the worst features of facebook (besides the privacy stealing facebook itself) is viewing and sharing links and articles that is done using apps.
It works like this:
1. Someone sees that one of their friends viewed an article/web site/link etc...
2. They click on it so that they can also view it.
3. They are prompted with a box saying "please install application x to view this"
4. Non-IT savvy people click and install the app. Slashdot users avoid it ;-)
5. Non-IT savvy people read the article
6. The app then posts on their wall that they viewed the article and so the malware/app continues.
