.xxx Registrar To Launch Pr0n Search Engine

samzenpus posted about 2 years ago | from the tryin-to-catch-me-searching-dirty dept.

The Internet 149

angry tapir writes "The company behind the .xxx top-level domain plans to launch a search engine in an effort to drive more traffic to .xxx websites and give pornography fans a more satisfying search experience. ICM Registry, which operates the 9-month-old .xxx TLD, is scheduled to launch Search.xxx this week, said Stuart Lawley, ICM's CEO. The new search engine will give users a more streamlined searching process, help protect them from viruses and malware and help guard their privacy, he said. The search engine has cataloged 21 million webpages from .xxx sites, he said. 'It's porn, only porn, all porn,' he said. 'There's as much porn there as anyone would need, I'd imagine.'"

Re:Could even replace Google... (1)

I kinda agree, where porn includes sex.

Thanks to the Internet, women have found that there is a *huge* demand for their bodies, and that they don't even have to leave their rooms to provide that demand and to obtain whatever people are prepared to trade in return for it.

So while fifteen years ago you were competing against the guys in your neighbourhood in person, today you're competing against the world with a webcam.

Yeah. Turn off safe search and type in "Clown Porn". Go ahead, I'll wait.

Ooh! "Dolphin Sex" is another good one!

It only took me one search to realize that you need to include "Document Preparation System" in any search involving "LaTeX"!

It seems that the "Leather Hat" search doesn't have the topless male model in a leather hat in the first few hits anymore. If you click over to images and scroll down, you'll find him though!

Ok, now that we're warmed up... Click over to images and enter "Penis Torture Device"! Oh yeah! Although you still get better results on Amazon for that search than you do on Google Shopping...

What? Someone has to come up with these! Don't judge me!

Heh heh heh

The entire premise is stupid. There is no such as "too much porn" because people have different interests. While you can pretty much find anything - and if you can't, there's people who do clips when you order from them - some niches can still be quite small. And let me tell you, people love their niches. For example I like japanese massage porn. If that's what turns me on, then hairy grandmas 58 isn't going to help much.

You sir have grossly underestimated the Internet porn surfing public. Additionally, if this TLD gets really big and makes good on it's promise, I'm upping the ante to a six monitor configuration as opposed to the current two.

jandersen (462034) | about 2 years ago | (#41475023)

You sir have grossly underestimated the Internet porn surfing public.

Hmm, I wonder. You see, the porn industry has been complaining for a long time about hard times (yes, I know, a pun of sorts, but not intended). I think the truth of the matter is that pornography only really attracts those who have been unable to find anything better in their lives, which is really sad. Pornography seems always to be disappointing - plasticky looking Ken and Barbie types mechanically doing things and looking utterly bored. I am, by the way, from Denmark, where people are incredibly open-minded and at it all the time, everywhere, as we all know, so I know what I am talking about.

Sex is nice, but vastly overhyped. Like anything enjoyable, it becomes trivial when you have had enough, and that happens much sooner than you imagine as a teenager; and it's a good thing really, because there is so much more to life than screwing around.

Re:Never such thing as too much porn (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#41475821)

The porn industry, as in the ones hiring plasticky people to fuck in front of a camera, are suffering because there's competition from amateurs who only want to show off their bodies. That's all there is to it. Why pay to see tits or cock when there are hundreds of thousands of people with cameras posting it to the net for free? Better yet, the amateur stuff isn't all in front of studio lighting, doesn't have makeup artists or photoshop touchups, so doesn't look all plasticky.

There is indeed a lot of disappointing and plain bad porn. Sturgeon's revelation applies here as much as anywhere else. There's good stuff too.

Re:Never such thing as too much porn (3, Insightful)

hairyfish (1653411) | about 2 years ago | (#41475921)

Pornography seems always to be disappointing - plasticky looking Ken and Barbie types mechanically doing things and looking utterly bored.

You quite clearly don't get out much. The great thing about internet porn is the variety. Yes there is plasticky bored looking good looking people having sex, but there is also ugly people, amateurs, young, old, fat, skinny, gay, trannies, hairy, shaved, dwarves, giants, every race, colour, creed all doing all sorts of things to each other for your pleasure. Everyone has different desires and pornography caters to most of them.

I am, by the way, from Denmark, where people are incredibly open-minded and at it all the time, everywhere, as we all know, so I know what I am talking about.

Well clearly you don't since your view of porn is severely limited.

Sex is nice, but vastly overhyped. Like anything enjoyable, it becomes trivial when you have had enough, and that happens much sooner than you imagine as a teenager; and it's a good thing really, because there is so much more to life than screwing around.

I can only assume you're doing it wrong.

Porn isn't everything, but sometimes you just want something different. Tired of the same old sitcom, put on a different movie porn, tired of posters of cars, get posters of something else. Like looking at beautiful things, grab a magazine after your trip to the art gallery.

If you think it's all Ken and Barbie being mechanical, you haven't been out lately, there are all types of people doing all sorts of things you can't imagine.
I saw a balloon fetish video, it wasn't my thing, but it sure looked like they were having fun.

BTW, I'm sorry you have lost your teenage enthusiasm.

Unsafe Search, NOW! (4, Interesting)

I really want to see what Google returns with 'unsafe search' turned on for truly boring and mundane words like 'Baseball', 'Database', or 'Tax return'. I bet you could find some pretty fucking weird sites with that feature....

Obama's New "Stimulus" Package! (-1)

FTA: "ICM plans to launch a micropayments system early next year, in an effort to combat porn piracy ...
will allow customers to pay less than $2 for a single video clip ....
People want to buy smaller amounts of porn from multiple sources, he said."

And now featuring, Obama's New "Stimulus" Package!
1) We will "combat porn piracy" and create new jobs bringing in lost revenue.
2) We will let 'customers -pay- for video clips' to watch instead of the entire feature film!
3) People will "buy smaller amounts of porn" decreasing internet traffic, thus eliminating needless spending on communications infrastructure.

Unfortunately, all DRM porn video clips will come with a mangadatory and unskippable two minute FBI warning about piracy.

Re:Violet Blue story about sites suckered by that (1)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 years ago | (#41474909)

The post you link to seems to make the claim that this isn't news worthy inherently because it was told to her in the form of a press release, which makes very little sense. Any real journalist would consider the story objectively, and if they disagreed with the company's standards which she seems to do write a negative post about it. Which she did. So was she suckered in then? After all, her entire post is about that very same press release.

Whether the story is newsworthy or not is a completely different issue, and you'll notice it's one she doesn't touch. Clearly she deems it news worthy since she actually posted about it, but she wants to do so in a negative way so she tries to cast a negative light on anyone else who didn't agree with her. That doesn't exactly smack of journalistic integrity, now does it?

I should perhaps note that I completely agree with her opinions on the .xxx tld and so on, but that post just made me chuckle, it's not even worth taking seriously. After all, it's based on a press release.

I don't see anything wrong with a desire to categorize information on the Internet. Yes, .com porn will still exist, but if the company that owns .xxx can keep the sites under it in check and make it a safe place to find porn, I think that will attract more people than ever, which in turn draw more to the domain. I like to think of it as the Las Vegas of the Internet. So long as the place can be kept within a certain degree of control, it's all good to let loose.

Re:Poor Google (3, Informative)

sumdumass (711423) | about 2 years ago | (#41474587)

Really?

While I appreciate porn for what it is, porn "sites" are cesspools run by scum human beings who make a buck anywhere they can, including filling "sample" sites with computer-infecting ad networks, spamming newsgroups on other topics with their crap, loading sites with keywords unrelated to their topic, etc. etc. Not to mention using all sorts of tricks to get people to stumble on things.

The very fact that you might oppose the .xxx TLD is proof you are one such scum. A service should be available, true, but shouldn't damage equipment and force itself on others that don't want it. .xxx would be useful for everybody, those that want to partake and those that don't all around.

Like a lot of the underclass, the pornsters created the ghetto themselves.

I believe it is intentional.

From Wikipedia [wikipedia.org]

Pr0n is slang for pornography.[1] This is a deliberately inaccurate spelling/pronunciation for porn,[14] where a zero is often used to replace the letter O. It is sometimes used in legitimate communications (such as email discussion groups, Usenet, chat rooms, and internet web pages) to circumvent language and content filters, which may reject messages as offensive or spam. The word also helps prevent search engines from associating commercial sites with pornography, which might result in unwelcome traffic.

Yep. All the time. Who doesn't go scouring the web for Brazilian midget transsexuals just weeks before they take a family trip to Brazil for the holiday? Surely every straight man that has ever lived who respects his wife, his family, and his own masculinity has done it...

I'd argue that, assuming proper hormone regimens, genetic lottery luck, and post-operative status of said Brazilian midget transsexuals, yes, a straight man might do this.

I've yet to meet the straight male who looked at a fine feminine figure and said, "Damn, she's got a nice pair of chromosomes!" It's not the XX or XY that people are sexually attracted to; it's everything else.

Probably the little people are not too overpowering so their masculinity is safe. An entire football team of little shemales is a different matter, though.

Those who are too afraid ask their wives for it, shall not receive it from their wives.
