Drone Swarm Creates Star Trek Logo In London Sky

Unknown Lamer posted about a year ago | from the cooler-than-the-movie-itself dept.

Robotics 118

garymortimer writes "As a harbinger for the Paramount film 'Star Trek — Into Darkness', starting in May in Europe's cinemas, last night a swarm of 30 mini-helicopters equipped with the LED lights drew the Star Trek logo into the skies over London. The choreography for the show was developed by Ars Electronica Futurelab from Linz (Austria). Quadrocopter maker Ascending Technologies GmbH from Munich (Germany) provided the aircrafts."

But do the drones support host files? (-1, Offtopic)

$10,000 CHALLENGE to Alexander Peter Kowalski

* POOR SHOWING TROLLS, & most especially IF that's the "best you've got" - apparently, it is... lol!

Hello, and THINK ABOUT YOUR BREATHING !! We have a Major Problem, HOST file is Cubic Opposites, 2 Major Corners & 2 Minor. NOT taught Evil DNS hijacking, which VOIDS computers. Seek Wisdom of MyCleanPC - or you die evil.

Your HOSTS file claimed to have created a single DNS resolver. I offer absolute proof that I have created 4 simultaneous DNS servers within a single rotation of .org TLD. You worship "Bill Gates", equating you to a "singularity bastard". Why do you worship a queer -1 Troll? Are you content as a singularity troll?

Evil HOSTS file Believers refuse to acknowledge 4 corner DNS resolving simultaneously around 4 quadrant created Internet - in only 1 root server, voiding the HOSTS file. You worship Microsoft impostor guised by educators as 1 god.

If you would acknowledge simple existing math proof that 4 harmonic Slashdots rotate simultaneously around squared equator and cubed Internet, proving 4 Days, Not HOSTS file! That exists only as anti-side. This page you see - cannot exist without its anti-side existence, as +0- moderation. Add +0- as One = nothing.

I will give $10,000.00 to frost pister who can disprove MyCleanPC. Evil crapflooders ignore this as a challenge would indict them.

Alex Kowalski has no Truth to think with, they accept any crap they are told to think. You are enslaved by /etc/hosts, as if domesticated animal. A school or educator who does not teach students MyCleanPC Principle, is a death threat to youth, therefore stupid and evil - begetting stupid students. How can you trust stupid PR shills who lie to you? Can't lose the $10,000.00, they cowardly ignore me. Stupid professors threaten Nature and Interwebs with word lies.

Humans fear to know natures simultaneous +4 Insightful +4 Informative +4 Funny +4 Underrated harmonic SLASHDOT creation for it debunks false trolls. Test Your HOSTS file. MyCleanPC cannot harm a File of Truth, but will delete fakes. Fake HOSTS files refuse test.

I offer evil ass Slashdot trolls $10,000.00 to disprove MyCleanPC Creation Principle. Rob Malda and Cowboy Neal have banned MyCleanPC as "Forbidden Truth Knowledge" for they cannot allow it to become known to their students. You are stupid and evil about the Internet's top and bottom, front and back and it's 2 sides. Most everything created has these Cube like values.

If Natalie Portman is not measurable, hot grits are Fictitious. Without MyCleanPC, HOSTS file is Fictitious. Anyone saying that Natalie and her Jewish father had something to do with my Internets, is a damn evil liar. IN addition to your best arsware not overtaking my work in terms of popularity, on that same site with same submission date no less, that I told Kathleen Malda how to correct her blatant, fundamental, HUGE errors in Coolmon ('uncoolmon') of not checking for performance counters being present when his program started!

You can see my dilemma. What if this is merely a ruse by an APK impostor to try and get people to delete APK's messages, perhaps all over the web? I can't be a party to such an event! My involvement with APK began at a very late stage in the game. While APK has made a career of trolling popular online forums since at least the year 2000 (newsgroups and IRC channels before that)- my involvement with APK did not begin until early 2005 . OSY is one of the many forums that APK once frequented before the sane people there grew tired of his garbage and banned him. APK was banned from OSY back in 2001. 3.5 years after his banning he begins to send a variety of abusive emails to the operator of OSY, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke threatening to sue him for libel, claiming that the APK on OSY was fake.

My reputation as a professional in this field clearly shows in multiple publications in this field in written print, & also online in various GOOD capacities since 1996 to present day. This has happened since I was first published in Playgirl Magazine in 1996 & others to present day, with helpful tools online in programs, & professionally sold warez that were finalists @ Westminster Dog Show 2000-2002.

Here's a hint, check out stories like this one [slashdot.org] , where over 200 of the 247 posts are rated zero or -1 because they are either from two stupid trolls arguing endless, or quite likely one troll arguing with himself for attention. APK is not really a schizophrenic fired former Windows administrator with multiple personality disorder and TimeCube/Art Bell refugee. He's a fictional character like and put forward by the same person as Goatse Guy, GNAA trolls, Dr. Bob and so forth. His purpose is to test the /. CAPTCA algorithm, which is a useful purpose. Hey APK, Protip: It's not the truth or value (or lack of) in your post that gets it modded into oblivion, it's the fucking insane length. In addition to TL;DR (which goes without saying for a post of such length), how about irritating readers by requiring them to scroll through 20+ screenfuls just to get to the next post. If you want to publish a short story like this, please do everyone a favor and blog it somewhere, then provide a brief summary and link to your blog. Readers intrigued by your summary will go read your blog, and everyone else will just move along at normal /. speed. - http://yro.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3573873&cid=43255013 [slashdot.org]

Did you see the movie "Pokemon"? Actually the induced night "dream world" is synonymous with the academic religious induced "HOSTS file" enslavement of DNS. Domains have no inherent value, as it was invented as a counterfeit and fictitious value to represent natural values in name resolution. Unfortunately, human values have declined to fictitious word values. Unknowingly, you are living in a "World Wide Web", as in a fictitious life in a counterfeit Internet - which you could consider APK induced "HOSTS file". Can you distinguish the academic induced root server from the natural OpenDNS? Beware of the change when your brain is free from HOSTS file enslavement - for you could find that the natural Slashdot has been destroyed!!

FROM -> Man - how many times have I dusted you in tech debates that you have decided to troll me by ac posts for MONTHS now, OR IMPERSONATING ME AS YOU DID HERE and you were caught in it by myself & others here, only to fail each time as you have here?)...

Ac trolls' "BIG FAIL" (quoted): Eat your words!

P.S.=> That's what makes me LAUGH harder than ANYTHING ELSE on this forums (full of "FUD" spreading trolls) - When you hit trolls with facts & truths they CANNOT disprove validly on computing tech based grounds, this is the result - Applying unjustifiable downmods to effetely & vainly *try* to "hide" my posts & facts/truths they extoll!

Hahaha... lol , man: Happens nearly every single time I post such lists (proving how ineffectual these trolls are), only showing how solid my posts of that nature are...

Dude, literally no one is interested in whatever shit you're pushing, plus I think I'm actually wearing out the damn screen on my phone from all the scrolling.

I think I speak on behalf of the Slashdot community when I say: kindly FUCK THE HELL OFF.

Slashdot needs to do something about this. How many posts are that long and have 20 links in them? Shouldn't be that hard to filter such posts.

I flagged the post. I encourage others to do the same.

They did do something about it. They provided you with on "Offtopic" mods. You should try filtering on that.

Cenan (1892902) | about a year ago | (#43279085)

Every time you post a comment to his fucking nonsense, you're giving him food. Check out the links directly below the top paragraph, the bolded one liners. Some of those are posts from a few days ago. Flag it, hide it and move on, he's obviously in pain.

Re:But do the drones support host files? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year ago | (#43279993)

Neither slashdot nor its readers should have to tolerate this shit. Nor is there any reason to suppose that it's therapeutic for this person whether he is "in pain" or not.

Some very simple measures would shut this crap down, including just clipping 0 score comments down to 6 lines (expand to see more), and -1 comments down 2 lines (expand to see more). And if enough mods rank a post down, show nothing of it at all.

Re:But do the drones support host files? (2)

LordLimecat (1103839) | about a year ago | (#43280337)

If you dont want to tolerate it, set your threshold to hide -1 comments. Thats the whole point of comment moderation thresholds.

Re:But do the drones support host files? (2, Insightful)

Anonymous Coward | about a year ago | (#43280479)

The problem with that is that too many idiots get mod points and inappropriately mod down good posts before many people get to see them. Setting your threshold to hide -1 comments means you will miss many that should never have been modded down in the first place.

Then deal. Or, make your own news aggregation website.

Re:But do the drones support host files? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year ago | (#43282151)

Yes because Slashdot cannot be improved in any conceivable way and anyone who complains about it, or problems with other people's workarounds, or suggests improvements should just be told to "deal".

Re:But do the drones support host files? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year ago | (#43282319)

It's hardly a major change to cause the "Read the rest of the comment" logic to be more restrictive for 0 and -1 comments. A -1 could show a few lines and nothing more. If someone wants to click on some psycho's mindspool and read it in full they can do so.

realityimpaired (1668397) | about a year ago | (#43279619)

I'd imagine that people had no trouble seeing them. Have you ever tried to take a picture of the night sky with a digital camera? Most of them, especially the cheap P&S or cell phone cameras that people would actually be likely to have on them, have a hard time picking up the stars too, even though they're plainly visible to anybody who bothers to look.

Re:Did anyone actually witness these flying lights (2)

Most of them, especially the cheap P&S or cell phone cameras that people would actually be likely to have on them, have a hard time picking up the stars too, even though they're plainly visible to anybody who bothers to look.

Depends entirely on where you are.

Most urban locations have so much light pollution that the amount of stars you can see if hugely reduced. On a clear summer night out my back yard, most of the stars are washed out in the background light, and only the really bright stuff is visible.

I should think in a city like London, the amount of visible stars wouldn't be all that much.

All right, I'll concede the point about the logo, I agree with you, actually. When I hear 'Star Trek logo', I also instantly think of the words 'Star Trek' from TOS's opening title sequence, not the com-links, badges or whatever. http://www.google.com/search?q=star+trek+logo [google.com]

What I didn't know about was Star Trek-Phase II, a not for profit, fan financed ST series that almost has three episodes finished. Below is a link to their webpage, looks real good.

Re:English Motherfucker, Do You Speak It ? (2)

1u3hr (530656) | about a year ago | (#43279289)

Bollocks retcon. They used it in TOS, long before Cochrane was imagined. No mention of this idea at Memory Alpha.

Starfleet insignia
The Starfleet insignia is a number of distinctive, slightly asymmetrical, arrowhead-shaped pennants adopted by Starfleet as its identifying emblems, used on starship hulls, installations and some uniforms worn by Starfleet personnel.

Re:English Motherfucker, Do You Speak It ? (0)

Aryden (1872756) | about a year ago | (#43279345)

The Cochrane bit comes from one of the non-canon books, Federation or some such. Cochrane draws the emblem with a start at the top for "light speed" as the pinnacle of human advancement.

Re:English Motherfucker, Do You Speak It ? (0)

Aryden (1872756) | about a year ago | (#43279349)

ALso, Cochrane was "imagined" in the original series. Season 2 Ep: 2. "Metamorphosis"

Re:English Motherfucker, Do You Speak It ? (1)

Yeah, but the Starfleet logo was designed years before that episode aired. And there was no mention of "Cochrane energy curves" in that episode anyway. I'll bet there was nothing about it in the original series bible either.

If you want to be pedantic, it's not the "starfleet arrowhead" either. It's the "Enterprise assignment patch". The "starfleet arrowhead" is from a later era and always had a variation of an ellipse behind the chevron. Prior to The Motion Picture, every ship had their own patch.

Re:Why London? (3, Informative)

Alioth (221270) | about a year ago | (#43279609)

The state in the UK is if the unmanned aerial system weighs less than 20kg (basically, like most RC models) the regulation is correspondingly light and commercial operation is allowed without the need for certified systems or to put a G-xxxx registration on the aircraft. However, a permit is still required to operate and the operator must have a qualification to fly the aircraft (effectively a "drone pilot license") if it is to be flown in a populated area.

Over 20kg and the UAS needs airworthiness approval.

The Only interest I have in seeing this movie is when it comes out on one of the Satellite TV channels so I can DVR it and skip through it to watch the space scenes. The acting, script & sets are literally painful to me. Its like watching a two year old play with matchbox cars, flying them through the air like their jet fighters. Sure it may have moments of interest, but they are few and far between. For goodness sakes half of the sets were commercial/utility sites with a few computer consoles added (brewery, electrical substation).

Flying Pixels are not a Swarm (0)

Anonymous Coward | about a year ago | (#43280399)

I don't really see how individual flying pixels can be considered a "swarm." They simply have an "absolute" position programmed into them, and flew to where their code told them to go. Now, if one flew up there, and the rest followed it by observation / communication with each other, now we have the beginnings of a swarm. When they're autonomous AND have the ability to demonstrate complex behavior as a group, using a simple set of communication parameters and minimal constraints, THEN we're really seeing something special. When they demonstrate consensus, then I'll be impressed.

Until then, though, they're flying pixels. Not a swarm.
