samzenpus posted about a year and a half ago | from the listen-up dept.

Linux 12

DeviceGuru writes "The Linux Foundation is offering live video streaming of all of the Linux Collaboration Summit's day 1 keynote sessions to be held Monday, April 15. The day 1 keynotes include presentations by Jaguar Land Rover, Samsung, Intel, Netflix, Yocto, OpenMAMA, Adapteva, and LWN's Jon Corbet. The foundation's Linux Collaboration Summit is an exclusive, invitation-only summit of core kernel developers, distribution maintainers, ISVs, end users, system vendors and other community organizations. It includes full-group sessions as well as workgroups."

Live video stream? (-1)

Since it's for Linux OSS hippies, the stream will be in WebM format that only a handful of people are able to watch.

If it's encoded in H.264 and needs Flash to display, it's going to be an epic irony.

Anyone with a modern PC can watch such formats.

You're right that it requires flash : This is the only reason I keep Google Chrome around, the big upside being that I don't have to install an outdated Flash Player package. Not much better, but Google Hangouts we wouldn't *need* flash... but one would think the frekin Linux Foundation would be into FOSS codecs. At least they're *finally* streaming talks!

There is no such thing as "FOSS" codecs, just encoders/decoders. However, there is such a thing as patent-unencumbered file formats.
