Paycheck

Re:Much awaited.. (5, Insightful)

Elbereth (58257) | about 10 months ago | (#44002633)

Yeah, I have to admit that it sounds like nothing but a paycheck. Given that the last two Terminator films were pretty forgettable, I'm hoping that they just do a reboot. Wipe everything clean, start with a brand new story, and get a real director (with a real name, not a nickname).

If they do a reboot, they could bring in Arnie in a small role. Make him a military leader responsible for pushing through Skynet, rewarded for his years of service to the country by being the first 3D model used to create a humanoid Terminator. That could work. It would even explain why he's 60-65 years old, yet the Terminator looks half that age. See? It's not hopeless. It's just incredibly unlikely that this will turn into a good film.

I thought T4 was pretty good, actually, great ending. If there's one thing about movie reviews, they tend to be very personal and not worth much. So take my input with a grain of salt as well. :)

Terminator Salvation sucked hard, but Terminator 3 was pretty good. Some of the demolition scenes were awesome and Nick Stahl, despite being a drugged out loser, manages to play a better John Conner than lil' Eddie Furlong and Christian "Kyle Reeth" Bale..

I liked Terminator 3 a) Because Arnold played the T-850 like an old obsolete model and it worked. b) They didnt wimp out with the ending...the nukes actually flew. c) Claire Danes.

Why would you wipe one of the most well-known and coolest stories in the whole genre? That would just be asking for trouble. This isn't Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Judge Dredd or Total Recall - i.e. the source material is the movie. Wipe everything clean, and you might as well not even be making a Terminator movie. I hope I never see the day when the first two are remade. If you must "reboot", "reboot" bad movies that could/should have been good (Daredevil and Resident Evil come immediately to mind).

I might have found a script for a concept. It already contains a lot of the elements of successful action / adventure / sci-fi movies. It just needs a bit of polishing such as a rewrite refocusing on Arnold's character and higher production values. Terminator: X25 [youtube.com].

Chronic liar, loser, and drugee (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 10 months ago | (#44003417)

In my opinion, Schwarzenegger is a chronic liar, a loser, and a drugee who was able to convince people he wasn't. People who actually knew him, left him, like his wife.

Read the book, Fantastic, The life of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger's father was a member of the Nazi party and an alcoholic. From page 16, "He was an angry drunk, and there were rumors in the village that when he wended his way home in the evening hours, he beat his wife."

Another quote, from page 49: "... he began a level of gamesmanship, of sheer trickery, of subterfuge, that had never before been seen in bodybuilding. He did not try to hide his actions but proudly admitted them afterward."

He manipulated people.

CG Avatar (1)

sanman2 (928866) | about 10 months ago | (#44002733)

They'll just put the facial-capture stuff on him, so that he can mouth out the words in his usual robotic way, and they'll slap it all onto some CG model, a la Avatar.

In which case, why not just hire an impressionist who can do Arnie's accent on the cheap, and then map his stuff onto the CG model?

Re:CG Avatar (3, Informative)

anglico (1232406) | about 10 months ago | (#44003127)

I think they did this with Crispin Glover's character in Back To The Future 2, and he sued the studio for using his likeness. I can't find the article right this moment but IIRC Crispin Glover won the suit and now studios can't use an actors likeness without their permission.

Re:CG Avatar (1, Informative)

anglico (1232406) | about 10 months ago | (#44003139)

From the wikipedia article:

Dissatisfied with these plans, Glover filed a lawsuit against the producers, including Steven Spielberg, on the grounds that they neither owned his likeness nor had permission to use it. Due to Glover's lawsuit, there are now clauses in the Screen Actors Guild collective bargaining agreements which state that producers and actors are not allowed to use such methods to reproduce the likeness of other actors.[7]

NormHome (99305) | about 10 months ago | (#44003077)

After watching The Last Stand, Arnold is without a doubt too old. But if they use some Avatar like technology I'm sure they can make him as good as new, we have the technology.

I just really hope they get a good script and some good casting, Terminator 3 was absolutely dreadful, starting with a really bad script to casting Nick Stahl as John Connor. They made his character a simpering emotional wreak and not the great leader of men who would lead mankind to overthrow Skynet. Terminator 4 was moderately better as Christian Bale better fit the character that we so briefly caught a glimpse of in the original movie but I sort of felt it was disjointed and that in the end nothing was really resolved.

All the big action stars of the 80's that keep on putting out movies, even though they are old as fuck, needs to stop. Serious, it's as bad as watching Mick Jagger dance around for the last decade. There is a time to stop, and it's in your 50's.

Not saying they can't still do movies, they can. But as action stars? No.

Enough already! (5, Funny)

We've already had four terminator movies with the last decent one being the 2nd movie. The third was just an excuse to get a female terminator with big boobs killing people, the 4th movie was horrendous, and for crying out loud the tv show Sarah Connor chronicles was better then the movies in some aspects. I mean whats the story going to be this time, they make new T-800's that look like senior citizens to invade the care home where John Connor is in and kill him with false terminator teeth?

It could be worse! If they got Bey or Abrahms to do it then we'd see more lense flares and ultra fast fight scenes and no story followed by more lense flares and more female terminators with big boobs that open up to be machine gun cannons or flame throwers.

Yes, they send back the Old-80, naked (*barf*) and he kicks some old people's ass and takes their walkers and Harleys - who else rides Harleys but old people?

So then, he takes his walker and Harley and tries to kill or save (depending on the plot) John Conner's brother's room mate's sister's lesbian lover's house keeper.

Why the house keeper? Because she - and she alone - kept John Conner from dieing from diarrhea by keeping his bother's roomate's sister's lesbian lover's toilet clean.

That's what's going to happen.

Possible Plots? (5, Funny)

cervesaebraciator (2352888) | about 10 months ago | (#44002757)

John Connor discovers that the T-800 series was not originally developed as a war machine at all. In fact, early developments in cybernetics were intended to help an increasingly elderly population cope with geriatric diseases. (In fact, the T in T-800 refers to a testosterone pump implanted directly into the body, the first major modification to be attempted.) One such man, an actor with influential connections in government, was able to steadily have body parts replaced as he aged, attempting to prevent the inevitable degradation of his once Mr. Universe quality body. Later iterations of the T-800 would be based upon this man, who developed the models in an attempt to develop eternally vigilant guards to prevent incursions on his lawn by neighborhood children.

He really didn't appear old in the movie, definitely pulled it off but T3 itself was a decade ago. I saw him in Expendables 2 and,... I mean yeah it was fun and stupid but he was starting to really really look his age. Even his line delivery seemed off.

All Hail the Governator!! (2)

CrazyDoode (843836) | about 10 months ago | (#44002989)

I for one more than welcome the Governator T1, T2 and T3 were great sci-fi, wonderful time travel paradox films and fantastic examples of the genre. The first 3 films were solid story telling with a solid and consistent POV. Brilliant. Not great, but brilliant. Each movie was a solid 7.5 to 8 out of 10 compared to movies like Fast & Furious or Abrams' Star Trek. T5 is something I would see opening weekend just like i did with the dismal failure of T4 which despite it's name and hype was not a terminator movie and was literally nothing more than "a day in the life of" movie. T4 did not create nor solve a time travel paradox though it had many opportunities - mr big man nolan missed the point completely. I welcome T5 and another opportunity to mark judgment day on my calendar.

If he commits to getting back in shape big time, in the same way that Stalone has, he could have another 10 years of action films before he has to actually branch out into parts that fit his age. Yes, it would probably require steroids. No, I don't care.

Unfortunately, they'll probably just use him to draw crowds and either give him glorified cameo's or simply make him look younger with digital effects, neither of which would be a good thing.

The only way this would work is as a face-capture-CGI role. He just couldn't pull it off physically. Sorry, but he's just too old and out of shape. Even if you have him bulked up under clothing, his face is too aged to believably do the role.

If I remember right, they were wanting to do a second trio of movies. So with 4 done, we're looking at a possible 5 and 6. I'd like to think that 6 would be the final, with one side or the other finally winning. As for 5, why not go way back in time? Try to knock off Sarah Connor when she's a kid or something.

The Movie They Should Make (4, Interesting)

huckamania (533052) | about 10 months ago | (#44003671)

Act 1:
In Eastern Europe, a handful of partisans still fight SkyNet and an army of robots. It's a desperate fight and the landscape is filled with the wreckage of a former age. One group is led by Ahnuld. He's crafty and careful having lived through the worst of times. His crew look up to him as a father and would follow him into hell.
Called before the supreme council, it's Eastern Europe remember, one member of his crew is denounced. It's all a ruse to get him and his group to sign up for a high-risk, end the war in Europe mission. He agrees but not before telling everyone of them 'I'll be back'.
Act 2:
Getting there is the hardest part. Sneaking through wrecked cities and desolate wastelands, half empty aquifers and collapsed rail tunnels, fighting and dying heroically to preserve the mission and each other, the rag tag group makes its way to... CERN. The idyllic countryside has been devastated. In its place are ruined behemoths and the rusted hulks of war machines. But SkyNet lives here, at least the part aware of the European theatre and they are there to destroy it.
Act 3:
Is where it really gets good. Also, there's a twist ending. Really, this movie could win awards. That's how good the ending is. Even your Mom is going to like it. I'd tell you, but it would ruin it for you. I'm doing you a favor.
