Classic Games (Games) 26

jones_supa (887896) writes It's been a while since a new ScummVM release, but version 1.7.0 is now here with many exciting features. New games supported are The Neverhood, Mortville Manor, Voyeur, Return to Ringworld and Chivalry is Not Dead. The Roland MT-32 emulator has been updated, there is an OpenGL backend, the GUI has seen improvements, AGOS engine is enhanced, tons of SCI bug fixes have been applied, and various other improvements can be found. This version also introduces support for the OUYA gaming console and brings improvements to some other more exotic platforms. Please read the release notes for an accurate description of the new version. SCUMM being the language/interpreter used by many classic adventure games.

Still no Grim Fandango? (-1)

wiggles (30088) | about 2 months ago | (#47525295)

Been waiting on that one forever

Forget that, it still doesn't have support for hires games like LSL6 and SQ6.

And Star Trek 25th Anniversary, I have fond memories of that one.

Here are all the unsupported games: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Category:Unsupported_Games

That project is ResidualVM, and it's been able to play Grim Fandango for a while...

you can play grim fandango on wine...

How as this post a troll? My statement was factual [winehq.org] , helpful, based on first-hand experience, (I love that game) and in no way soliciting response. Looks like someone out there has mod points and a chip on their shoulder.

Re:Still no Grim Fandango? (0)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 months ago | (#47528405)

I did not mod you, but: ScummVM runs on multiple architectures and lots of platforms, including non-Unix platforms that wine does not run on. Your original reply is at least a bit off topic for the thread, and you may have been modded a troll because your wine reference appears to make the assumption that the OP is running Linux.

Thats a sad kind of OS elitism then. as he said it was pure fact and related to the topic of playing a game not working with scummvm. the op did not put any OS restraints on his problem (scummvm does not run on _every_ OS either) nor is the article mentioning or excluding any OSes. so grow up and try to help people solve their issues instead of downmodding possible working solutions just cuz its not your kind of assfuckery.

"Double Fine's gonna do an HD remaster soon."

It's too bad you didn't add a (source/reference) link to your reply.
It would have been nice if people reading it, especially if your post gets upvoted (it's at Score:2 now), could verify your statement and read more about Double Fine's plans.

It will be released simultaneously for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and GNU/Linux platforms.

Actually, it'd be nice if you'd quit whining like a little bitch, and just learn how to use the fucking Internet.

Seriously? He's talking about a video game, not nuclear disarmament treaties.

Full Throttle (1)

tekrat (242117) | about 2 months ago | (#47525305)

If this means I can play Full Throttle, count me in! That was one of the greatest games I've ever played, and certainly had the best opening ever made to a game.

Re:Full Throttle (4, Informative)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 months ago | (#47525557)

Full Throttle has been playable on ScummVM for years.

Re:Full Throttle (1)

Anonymous Coward | about 2 months ago | (#47525721)

Yep. Support for Full Throttle was introduced in ScummVM 0.2.0 which was released in 2002.

I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Re:Full Throttle (1)

Daniel Hoffmann (2902427) | about 2 months ago | (#47531963)

It is also the most badass opening ever made.

Monkey Island reboot (1)

Zaiff Urgulbunger (591514) | about 2 months ago | (#47529949)

Slightly OT, but this article reminded me of the re-imaged Monkey Island released a year or so ago, so I just had a look on Steam and it's still only available for Windows. Why?!

Re:Monkey Island reboot (1)

Parlyne (884090) | about 2 months ago | (#47534833)

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has been on the Mac App store since early 2011. But, the never did a Mac port of Monkey Island 2 SE. That one, though, is available for iOS.

You forgot the missing ingredient: (1)
