Christmas Cheer 408

I'm off to visit the fam... I hope you all have the ability to spend the holidays with the ones who mean the most to you: even if those are friends like Solid Snake or Rikku, or actual family. Merry Christmas to you all, if you made a good haul this year from the fatman, feel free to share.

Same here. Plus, I'm busy enough trying to ignore Xmas, just like every year. Just curious: with so little people really being religious these days, why is hardly anyone consistent enough as to replace the holidays by, say, a years' end celebration week?

Been at work since 0600 EST. Someone must tend the server farm. Double time pay is nice though. Happy holidays, even if it is focused on commercialism.

Re:Let's celebrate xmas (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 11 years ago | (#2749124)

Which religion might that be? The Israeli Christian one that exterminates Palestinians? Or the Palestinian islamic one that exterminates Christians? Or maybe you mean the Catholic Irish that exterminate the Protestants? Or do you mean the Protestant Irish that kill the Catholics? Or, did I miss one?

Personally I think ANYONE gullible to believe in a fairy tale religion (buddism, hinduism, islam, christianity, whatever) enough to die for it, or kill others for it, is a fucking moron and I look forward for their elimination from the human gene pool.

It's the fucking 21st century, god damn it. Enough with the fucking fairy tales, YOU FUCKING GULLIBLE FOOLS!

Re:Let's celebrate xmas (0)

Really? What about all those atheists who were involved in either World War who "believed in freedom enough to die for it"? Or is it only people with a religious alignment (i.e. those who are courageous enough to make any decision) who are stupid for having ideals?

Get over it, man. An intelligent argument needs not this kind of banter.

lol, a turkey as a tip?

"yeah, that'll be $12 for the pizza and breadsticks."

"Okay, here you go.. oh, and here's a tip for ya -" and he hands him a giant 20 lb. turkey

Re:Merry Christmas (2, Interesting)

AsylumWraith (458952) | more than 11 years ago | (#2749192)

I'm dead serious. I work a gas station at night (Full Service here in Jersey) for extra money. This guy in a pickup truck comes in, fills up, and gives me a $5 tip.

About a half an hour later, he comes in and asks if I want a turkey. Someone gave him one, and he's already got like three in his freezer, so he wants to offload it on me. I figure what the hell... dunno what I'll do with it, but I'm sure I can figure something out. Even if it's just turning it over to the local St. Vincent DePaul Society, so they can give it to someone who *really* needs it.

True story though, and definitely one of the strangest things that's ever happened to me. Something to tell the grandkids about someday, I guess...

Re:Cool Christmas (1)

The DVDs both rock (I own them) but I'd keep the receipt for that Archos player. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I've got a friend with one, and it's doing weird things on him after only two weeks. I've yet to look at the thing yet, so I don't know what the exact problem is.

Sorry to be the harbinger and all, just thought I'd give you fair warning. Merry Christmas.

Re:Cool Christmas (3, Informative)

Regarding the Archos...
  1. Make sure the battery is fully charged. It can give weird errors (e.g. "Hard Disk Error") when the battery is running low.
  2. Get the latest firmware from Archos web site. Lots of bugs have been fixed.
  3. Check out the FAQ for the Archos at Fun MP3 Players [funmp3players.com] .
Have fun!

Hmm. Does a bowl of Jell-O, a copy of *Divi Dead* [theunderdogs.org] , and a DVD of *Virtual Porn Sex with Asia* [excaliburfilms.com] count? Hehe.

No, no sulking alone with masturbatory foods and computer games today. :-) I'm about to leave to get together with the family, as most of us are, but I thought I'd give a big "Merry Non-Denominational Winter Vacation" to the whole /. community first.

That said, who here saw the Christmas episode of *Futurama* on Sunday, the one which the execs at Fox refused to air last year? Pretty hilarious. Pity what dicks the executives were in not showing it in the first place. :-(

So my mother tells me that I shouldn't expect much for Christmas. This is fine, I guess I can understand if she leaves it at that, because they built a house and all that jazz. But then she gives her reason:

"The (new) pool table and basketball goal are your presents!"

I hate to mention it to her (no, I enjoyed it), but I live in flipping Ireland and the only time I get to play with the pool table is for the next two weeks of my vacation. And the basketball goal isn't here yet! So she got really mad at me for pointing that out as annoyingly as I did (I would much prefer honesty to excuses; if it's not my gift, don't 'give' it to me as a token gift).

That said, I still got three new shirts, a pair of trousers, some candy, and $150. Go me!

Merry christmas!

The remnants of El Queda (The Mexican Islamic Front) diverts their only dirty kilaton suitcase neuclear device they've been working on for the last 10 years (with the help of Pakastan) to the Jordan/Israle border where it is detonated, taking out pretty much the entire west bank and the little strip of Israle that sperates the Palistinians from the Meditrian Sea, sending huge billowing clouds of toxic, radioactive sand storms on their way across Joran to Iraq. In retaliation, the Isrealies send a few of their clapped out F16s loaded with their all 4 of their neuclear devices down to Meca. Not wanting to be left out and hoping that the El Queda bomb will mask east asia radio active fallout, Pakastain and India exchange all 8 of their neuclear devices (of which only 6 detonate), sizably reducing the 1 billion people living in abject poverty in India (much to their relif). China uses the exchange as a pretext to obtain some additional territory from Russia and to finally finish off the Tiebtan problem.

After realizing that the wailing wall, bethlaham, meca, tibet and numerous other areas of relgious significants have been reduced glowing spots of glassed-over sand, Jewdism, Christianity and Muslum, Hindu, Budist, etc. religions fall into disuse upon everyone realizing that everything they need to know about how to get along with other people they learned in Kindergarden.

Hopefully, my Xmas present will arrive today at around 3pm.
My sweetie has been at work (nurse at a senior's home) since 6:30am today. I just hope she gets home safely.
In the end, that is a far better Xmas present than anything anyone can give me.

Who's doing well out of Chrimbo? (1)

Well... everyone knows that retailers love Christmas, and turkeys hate it ;)
But.. when I woke up this morning (approx 11am), I found my mobile phone memory had been exhausted with text messages - all wishing me merry christmas etc..
It just made me wonder how much the mobile phone companies are making out of Christmas now? Text messages are extremely popuplar (at least here in the UK), but people seem to have gone mad today... or is it just the people I know? ;)
I'm up to 23 purely Christmas related text messages now, and there's another 10 hours to go...

I got some seriously cools stuff. (1)

My amazon.co.uk [amazon.co.uk] wishlist [amazon.co.uk] has been my saviour this year. Throughout the year, when I've seen cool stuff, I just added to it, then when I sent out christmas cards, I included the url ;-)

I've got Bill & Ted on DVD [amazon.co.uk] , The Lord of the Rings boxed set [amazon.co.uk] , and, what every geek should want for Christmas this year, Linux Mandrake 8.1 [amazon.co.uk] (thanks, Dad!). It's a testament to Mandrake that I can have it installed on Christmas morning by 11am (with a stinking hangover, too!) with about three mouseclicks. However, the one book that's going to get me through all the holiday season parties, Bartending for Dummies [amazon.co.uk] , I can't thank you enough, mum!

Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone, here's to peace and happiness to you all.

Merry Christmas to you all, if you made a good haul this year from the fatman, feel free to share.

Yeah I've suspected for a while that Santa is really CowboyNeal.

Despite plans to go to Amsterdam and Berlin for xmas/nye, I've ended up working, due to other staff being unavailable. I'm not bitter though :)

I'm working on some code which should be very interesting in 4-6 months...bigger than HavenCo! :) So now I get to work on it sitting here in a warm, stationary office, vs. on a bumpy train with a GSM modem.

My girlfriend left me alone for Christmas.
She went to the bahamas! Is this a sign?
