Star Wars II Trailer Online

michael posted more than 12 years ago | from the analog-modems-need-not-apply dept.

Star Wars Prequels 585

Jager writes: "You can download the new starwars trailer here. Enjoy." Seemed to me as if Lucas was worried about the "love story" emphasis in the previous teasers, and wanted to make sure people knew there would be plenty of zapping and slashing.

Sorry! There are no comments related to the filter you selected.

Bit late for that... possibly on my 116th?

Anyways its just seems like lucas is floundering here... focusing on too much of what audiences he wants to bring in and not on making an actual heart(though some would argue this point moot due to the theories of Lucas being tangibly heartless) backed film ,but maybe my cynicism has just gotten the best of me.. buhahaha no it hasn't haha.. Well maybe I'll be supprised and might actually like this cash cow. Only time will tell

They apparently don't want people linked directly too it so they banned anything with certain referer fields (like slashdot).

Follow the URL, copy it from the location bar, go to some other site, then paste it back in. That should take care of it.

Right. It's nothing personal against slashdot, Apple just blocked any site pointing directly to the trailer. They've done this before -- and hey, they want to advertise, right? Nobody seems to have posted this yet, but you can just go to Apple's trailers site [apple.com] and click on the obvious graphic.

Sometimes Salvation (-1)

The Lyrics Guy (539223) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140711)

I know I posted this one already but I needed to come up with something quick. Sorry.

The Black Crowes - Sometimes Salvation

To lessen my troubles
I stopped hanging out with relatives
And empty saviours like you
I wish I had a nickel for every miracle
That you easily tricked me into

You can lead a horse to water
But faith is another matter
So don't you surrender
Cause sometimes salvation
In the eye of the storm

I've no time for accusations
Or conversations on all the bad, bad things you do.
Just a note from your jailor
Drugs and the relations
To all the people around you

You can lead a horse to water
But faith is another matter
So don't you surrender
Cause sometimes salvation
In the eye of the storm

I've kept secret your superstitions
And all its twisted wisdom
That I fell into

George Lucas/Steve Jobs Axis of Evil (4, Funny)

HeywoodJablomi69 (523618) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140712)

I don't know how it works at any other download sites, but if you go to www.starwars.com it won't let you download the hi-res version without Quicktime Pro. What gives? I want my free, bandwidth-consuming movie trailers, and I don't want to pay for them!

Exclusive movies if you have Ep 1 DVD (0)

kiwipeso (467618) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140728)

Nevermind the high res version, you can see that as a trailer in the movies. If you have the DVD, you can access a special movie for Clone Wars.

Re:George Lucas/Steve Jobs Axis of Evil (2, Informative)

Phroggy (441) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140818)

You don't need QuickTime Pro. However, QuickTime will bug you constantly about upgrading, which basically amounts to paying Apple $30 for a serial number to make it quit bugging you and un-cripple the QuickTime Player. I suggest finding a pirated serial number, try the extra features, see if it's worth your $30, then register - that's what I did.

Of course, this being Slashdot, you probably think it should be free (beer and speech, but mostly beer). Bleh.

On the other hand, I'm really not happy with the nagging. Oh well. *shrug*

To Those Who Complain. (3, Interesting)

suwalski (176418) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140738)

On the previous post about the trailer airing on Fox, many people said that they do not like the direction that Star Wars is taking. Although I agree with most of what these people say, some went as far as saying not to spend 10 dollars at the theatre to see it, but rather wait until rental time.

To those people who do not think this movie will be worth seeing, reconsider -- the visual effects in Phantom Menace did not disappoint, and from the looks of it, this movie will be just as nice with the CGI. As a fan of CGI, I was very happy with the pod race scene on a 40 foot screen, and I think I'll get my money's worth seeing the new movie when it comes out at theatres.

If you've read this far, you probably agree with me.

Re:To Those Who Complain. (3, Insightful)

Woko (112284) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140794)

CGI is neat, and its a great tool for a director to be able to expand his vision beyond what is physically possible. But it doesn't make a story.

Everyone marvelled at the CGI in Toy Story, but it was the characters, the laughs and the plot that made it a success. Compare to FF.

Final Fantasy (2)

citizenc (60589) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140820)

Excellent point -- personally, I enjoyed Final Fantasy quite a bit. However, I'm a huge fan of the series, so I understood the underlying Gia themes. (It crops up several times throughout the series.)

The problem that Final Fantasy encountered was bringing an anime-esque film to the mainstream audience.

Re:Final Fantasy (1)

spoco2 (322835) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140886)

I didn't have any trouble understanding the Gia theme... I just found it simplistic and dissapointing for the entire movie to sort of hinge on that as the great 'revelation' near the end of the piece, which was completely dissapointing.

It wasn't just that either that made the movie swing a lot closer to the 'bad' movie pile than the 'good' one. It was the plethora of incrediably bad lines, absolute cheese which was meant to be taken seriously... truly sad.

Re:Final Fantasy (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 12 years ago | (#3140888)

No, the problem was bringing a crap-film to people who were expecting something remotely worth the amount spent on it.

It's not like the stuff about Gaia went over people's heads, it's just that it's pretty hard not to laugh at it. Things just reveal their ridiculousness more when spoken vs. text in a video game.

Rehash of old material? (1)

KartMan (565213) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140742)

Does anyone else think some of these scenes look awfully familiar? I know Lucas wants to appeal to our sense of how much the original trilogy rocked but who wants a repeat of old material? I had to do a double take when I saw the trailer on TV, I had visions of Princess Leia in Jabba's palace again. I just hope he hasn't given everything away in the trailers and we'll still get a big surprise when we got to see it. Luke, I am your father...

cartoon (3, Insightful)

lunartik (94926) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140749)

All the CGI looks like anime or something.

It doesn't look real. Something about the models, miniture sets and mock-ups of Hoth and other planets in the first three movies had a texture to them that made them more believeable. Also the camera didn't fly all over the place constantly.

Looks like another pod race type scene (a big CGI jack off session that has nothing to contribute to a story) and a lot more characters that you won't care about (but hey, if Lucas throws 300 new characters in he can sell figures of them all to people that have to buy every single one.

This crap almost makes you feel like becoming a Trekkie (shudder). At least they come up with an interesting story and leave the visuals as a compliment to it.

HEbGb (6544) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140777)

Fine, mod me down because you don't agree. But..

I was really unimpressed with the trailer; it seemed like they devised one of the most generic plots possible, threw some famous people at it, and bought themselves some expensive, but rather unimaginative, CGI. The result is fodder for the masses and the die-hard fans, with a perfect marketing opportunity for McDonalds tie-ins.

Lucas and his ilk really had the chance to take the high road here with these new Star Wars movies, and use his energy to create something imaginative, unique, and compelling. Instead he cranked out more fodder, really for nothing more than to continue milking money out of the franchise. Looks like it's continuing.

Disappointing.

Parsa (525963) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140843)

I was somewhat impressed with the trailer for mainly the effects. I'm still scared about how the story will go. I was a little disappointed with the story from Menace, but it was the first one that has to set up a story line for not only two more movies but for the 3 that came before it. (But Jar-Jar is still unforgiveable)

But...I wish Lucas still had the mentoring of Joseph Campbell for these movies. I was an avid reader of Campbell's before I found out that he was a consultant on the mythological aspects of the movies for Lucas. And once you read something as easy as "The Power Of Myth" you can see Campbell's influence.

Regardless, I'm still going to the movie to see lightsabers.

I grabbed the divx5 version of the large trailer that was posted on another thread and mirrored it on my site. Grab it here [bill-williams.org] .

Posted this in the earlier "star wars trailer today" story, but I guess that's not going to be viewed as much anymore... How long has this holonetnews.com site been around? (it was the URL at the end of the trailer). It's kinda... umm... interesting, but not very visually appealing. Hopefully they'll have more content as the movie comes closer...

Seemed to me as if Lucas was worried about the "love story" emphasis in the previous teasers, and wanted to make sure people knew there would be plenty of zapping and slashing.

Hi Michael,

Could you please post just the synopsis and link on the homepage, and post your comments on the comment page? It's what everyone else who uses the system does and it's only fair.

Thanks.

Looks better than the first one (2)

At least it doesn't have that little brat in it, so I won't actually have to retch -- assuming that the buzz around the movie is sufficient to get me to go see it.

Oh, and thank God I didn't see Jar Jar Binks anywhere. Did George mercifully leave him out of it?

Unfortunately, Jar Jar is in the movie.

Fortunately, the word is that he isn't really a major character and doesn't have very much screen time.

Jar Jar is there ... (2)

... in Palpatine's office, while Obi-Wan is talking in the hologram transmition.

It looks decent... (0)

As a HUGE SW fan (perhaps freak is a better word) I can see through Lucas' attempt at winning over his lost fan loyalty.

Clouded this trailer is with false pretense. Already lost are those true fans after Episode I. Filled was the Episode I trailer with action. Mediocre the final product was.

Well I think it looks good. Admittedly it does look like it rehashes lots of elements of the first trilogy (cantina, chasm, female pulling on chain... (I'll let the leia "white" outfit slide since it's probably supposed to be some standard outfit thing)) which is a bit sad, but it's got action and excitement and will undoubtedly at least provide 1.5 hours of entertainment, even if it's not to be watched again and again.

BTW, was it just me, or was the music on the trailer a bit nondescript? One of the decent things about TPM was the "duel of the fates" track.

I thought whoever converted the trailer to divx should have added after the "the saga continues may 16th" something like "divx coming to your favourite file-sharing network May 20th".

And before you mod me down for not being entirely negative about the film, just think: Christopher Lee! Big battles! Natalie Portman!

To watch the trailer in Linux (2)

HoserHead (599) | more than 12 years ago | (#3140904)

It bears repeating that if you want to watch the trailer (and many other Windows-plugin-required content) in Linux, you should get the CrossOver Plugin [codeweavers.com] . Works like a charm, updated often, and Codeweavers' support is second to none.

Apple Insane! Incompatible With Quicktime 5! (-1, Troll)

Anonymous Coward | more than 12 years ago | (#3140916)

Apple wants to enforce a DRM (Digital Rights Management) system into your computers to spy on you and take away your rights!

Quicktime 5, was not invasive and reswtrictive enough so they use this Star Wars bait to get you to foolishly "upgrade" to thier new DRM swill.

People need to write a tool to take Quicktime 6 and reencode for Quicktime 5.

Its bad enough that Apple historically gets these video coddecs by merely shopping and liscensing the object code of other corporations, but this new gambit of theirs is disgusting.

I managed to copy the star wars trailers 32 megabyte .mov out of my netscape cache, but under Quicktime 5 PRO (the one you pay money to get) it bitches and only plays audio track.

I refuse to ley apple "auto-update" I have a stable system and do not need spy ware or softsware installed that prevents me from decoding to my own gWorld video driver buffers to capture nice Star Wars key frame snapshots in hirez.

The only reason to get these stupid trailers anyways is to show the hypocrisy and lies of Lucas. For example theo one big famous Episode One trailer shows a ship taking off from a planet but the video was actually run in reverse on purpose and he knew it. In the movie it was played in the correct animation frame order.

Lucas rapes and violates the integrity of his own work and imagery so this new cheesy low-rez waxyh looking crap in Star Wars 2 is no big shock to me.

Lord of the Rings is the new benchmark.

Lucas should just retire or open up a Jar Jar Binks amusement park.

Off topic, but what the hell (1, Offtopic)

I know the trailer is important, but as long as we're talking TV...

I hope lots of you watched 9/11. It was the French filmakers documentary tape that caught the first plane hitting the WTC. Not quite as geeky as Star Wars, but nobody will be talking about where they were when they saw the trailer in 6 months.
