War Of The Ring Game Delves Into Tolkien Books

simoniker posted more than 10 years ago | from the my-precious-licensing-rights dept.

Lord of the Rings 13

Thanks to GameSpot for a detailed look at the opposing armies, and IGN PC for a recent hands-on preview of Liquid Entertainment's Tolkien-themed PC RTS, War Of The Ring, which allows to player to recruit Gollum, Nazgul kings, and even Saruman the White, in evil-spawned campaigns such as one that "...tasks the player with retaking the towers built by Gondor, and involves a nice alliance with Shelob", or allows you to command the "...armies of good, which comprise the legions of men, elves, dwarves, and hobbits", and control heroes from Frodo Baggins through Aragorn and Gandalf, in this November-released title from the Battle Realms creators.

Reminds me of those old Simpsons mods for Doom. It looks like a new game, but it's just a reskinning of an old game.

Spelling does count! (-1, Flamebait)

Everyone makes minor spelling errors. We're only human. But come on, how do you misspell JRR Tolkien's name - twice in one news post - on Slashdot of all places?

(Yeah, yeah, I must be new here. Ha ha.)

LOTR (-1, Offtopic)

I went to a LOTR premiere. There was a hot chick there. I started up a conversation, she took me into a private booth. We made out, I felt her boobs. I gazed into her eyes. She caressed my face. Then, darkness. She stole my eyes, I felt myself lost, alone, disoriented. I fell to the ground, she threw me back out into the line. I wandered along, I saw a deaf man sitting on the corner. I asked him how much, he told me to look at his fingers. He wanted 9, I talked him down to 6. Then he got mad I guess but I assume I talked him down to one. So then I had my eyes but they didn't work anymore. They were defective!!! So I shot the guy in the head, but I think I missed, but oh well. Then I talked to the girl again, she said I passed the test. So I felt her boobs again. Then the movie started, it was ok. But let's face it, LOTR sucks.

Hmmm,
"War of the Ring game delves into Tolkien Books"

Well editors thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'd hope a game about Middle Earth would delve into the books from which it were written. It's not like the game programmers said "hmm let's make this game with some orcs, and hobbits and this kick ass wizard named Gandalf" like they pulled it out of their ass. OF COURSE IT DELVES INTO THE BOOKS! Without them there would be no LOTR. .....tards....

Actually this is Battle Realms 2 : LoTR edition. Battle Realms; if you've seen it, was older than WC3, and was pretty good.

This game seems to be using an engine (from the screenshots) similar to that of BR. I particularly liked BR, so I'll look forward to this one too. And I'm also a JRR fan (ever since I first read 'The Hobbit' in 6th grade, 10 years ago)

So this game is the keeps for me.

I think it's great that they're making games that aren't strictly connected to the story. I just hope it doesen't turn out to be like Force commander

My first pencil-and-paper RPG was a Tolkien-based one called MERP. Lots of maps. Lots and lots of maps. I distinctly recall re-claiming the tower in which Frodo was imprisoned.
