It would be really funny if Apple announced 3Ghz G5s as an April Fools. Then tomorrow they could say "Just kidding. you know we won't get there before 2005".

Don't forget the eMac.

I don't believe that it's an April Fools joke, but I don't think it will sell really well for the price that it is. It looks really nice though. I wouldn't mind having one... I think I would just go for a $200 PDA with Linux installed though.

Actually that link was wrong. It wasn't announced yet but that picture is leaked from Apple. They're hoping for a May-June release.

Then I would recommend news.google.[your country code or com here] or K5 or The Register or any of the major world publications (NYT, BBC, etc). Crawl them all, you'll find the news that would normally be posted here..

Honestly, if you're here for news, you're here for yesterday's news (thats how /. works, it's a repost service) and if you're here for news on April 1, you haven't been here for a year.

Usually I check Fwapdash twice an hour (addict, I know.. and not CmdrTaco, if he checked in that often, we wouldn't have dupes). On April 1, it's twice for the whole day. Deal with it. There's no news today.

From the link: "Apple today announced the PowerPod, the world's smallest portable video and music player with integrated video and digital camera. The device can hold over 1,000 songs or 100 movies and will be available in the summer of 2004 for $699 from the Apple Store and Apple Authorized Resellers throughout the U.S. The PowerPod is a half-inch thick, encased in an ultra-portable lightweight durable body and is available in 20, 40 and 60GB models. The PowerPod features a hi-resolution 5 x 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD and a 1.2 megapixel integrated digital camera, users can record and view movies while on the go or perform wireless video messaging while connected via a WiFi network. The dual external speakers can be used for audio playback for movies or for private listening with an external headphone jack. It also features an integrated microphone for video conferencing. With a 400Mhz RISC processor the USB 2.0 and FireWire handheld runs on the new Mac OS Portable OS. Basically, a stripped down version with PDA and Video functionality intended primarily for Video recording and playback, instant messaging, web browsing, email and address book." As we can see from apple.com, no such 'PowerPod' exists. I've been waiting for a Newton replacement for years, but it's all a cruel joke today.

The site that picture originates from (The Apple Collection) says the picture is from SpyMac which has been a VERY elaborate April Fool's Day joke for 3 years.

SpyMac moderators are horrendous trolls that scour the web looking for anything debunking the site.

SpyMac is the haven for just about EVERYONE in the scamming side of the Mac Community - it caters to them.

SpyMac also perpetrated the iWalk.

Sounds like I have a bone to pick with them - no not really - it's just a real eye candy that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

2) Make stuff that is so hard to tell from the truth you actually fool people. That way the fooling of the people is funny.

Slashdot and most other sites on the net seem to keep doing the third option on April Fool's day, and that is to make fools of themselves. Stop wasting our time. Try something more subtle and intelligent. Like what google did.

Joke or No Joke someone is going to have to build an integrated high power device. A MP3 player, PDA, cell phone, GPS, pedometer (whatever else you can think) should be in one unit rather than a bunch of little wimpy units. Like an MP3 player - say 150 dollars come on, a PDA is 300 not terrible bad but add a GPS is like adding a wart to a hog. One day maybe these will be integrated and powerful to start really replacing desktops even laptops - then we may start wearing them like pagers...

Perfect Shadows = CG (2, Informative)

sPaKr (116314) | more than 10 years ago | (#8741970)

Anyone else notice the perfect shadows and glares in the image? This has gotta be CG. Real Pictures never have perfect shadows, ambient light and all. Not to mention that the static buttons change orintation of the text depending on if the device is upright or on its side. Im sorry the 'Menu' and 'Disp' button will not change, and I dont belve those are part of the display. This is a poorly excuted joke.

Everyone has lost their sense of humor today. It doesn't necessarily have to be outragously funny to be humorous. Geez. . . .

From the article
The device can hold over 1,000 songs or 100 movies ... is available in 20, 40 and 60GB models.
Seeing as how the iPod mini holds over 1,000 songs and it's 4GB, this should say can hold over 5,000 songs. You know Apple wouldn't understate a product.

Yeah, I know I'm nitpicking an April Fool's joke, but seeing as how there's no real news I have to waste my lunch break somehow.

(And no, I'm not flaming Apple. I'm an OSX switcher myself.)
