Summer Is Coming; Will Your Mousing Hand Survive?

It's funny. Laugh. 215

japala writes "Many of us will have to use our computers even when it's summer. Getting sweaty and frustrated, but you have to get the work done or that last level played. Why not cool your mousing hand down with something as unique as BreezePad. DIY all the way baby!"

At $16 for an optical mouse, it's not bad at all. Perhaps I'll be getting one the next time my mouse dies. Any idea on how loud the fan is?

Re:Better Solution? (5, Informative)

Predius (560344) | more than 9 years ago | (#8967881)

Got both their mouse and gamepad. I can't tell when the mouse is on or off unless my hand is on it to feel the breeze. Haven't really done any super hardcore gaming since getting it, so can't comment on it's abiltity to help when gaming or visiting those... moist websites.

clicky [thinkgeek.com] ... not sure about that though, a friend of mine bought the nyko airflow gamepad and it broke (fan stopped working and the right analog control is messed up) after like a week.

Mousing Hand? (-1, Offtopic)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#8967730)

More like Wacking Hand on slashdot.

It'll survive because it's had vigorous exercise every day.

Re:Mousing Hand? (-1, Offtopic)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#8967773)

I'm ambidextrous and alternate between hands when masturbating. Any pores on my palms have been destroyed after years and year of abuse. Therefore, my palms don't get sweaty anymore and I don't have to worry about it.

So the point is, you can either build a nice little cooling pad for your mouse, or you can just jerk off a few times a day.

Re:Mousing Hand? (-1, Offtopic)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#8967790)

you should try sitting on your hand until it falls sleep before choking the chicken. that way, it'll feel like a stranger.

Yeah, referred to by many (read: me) as ambiwhacstrous, it is pretty useful, especially when you want that mousing hand doing other things. My friend says that it feels like someone else is doing it when he uses his other hand, guess that's a plus.

Damned windows users!

Get a real OS. Use lynx, mplayer, and fbi, and you can free yourself from the need to:
A: Use a windowing environment (Nothin' hotter than the CLI)
B: Use the mouse (You'd primarily the spacebar. Hard to miss that one, and easier to keep clean than a mouse)
C: Use high cost equipment (Keep the big gaming rigs near the television, the servers in the closests, and the icky things in the basement. Modularization=good)

cookie_cutter (533841) | more than 9 years ago | (#8967991)

Well, its not just temperature. There's always a little bit of sweating (especially with the nervousness of online gaming) and the fact that plastic doesn't readily absorb water makes it difficult for the water to just evaporate into the air, hence the wetness.

By having a forced air cooling system with ventilation, the palms can stay dryer.

Site slashdotted, so no meaningful discussion. In related news, here's an Ask Slashdot - did you guys deal with nymphos before?

I've been dating this girl for 3 months now, and we hit the sack about a month ago after movies and dinners and all. And, God, she's insatiable. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am a normal body type, work out, no need for Viagra or additives, but she just exhausts me.

About 4 people at work commented on my tired looks and exhausted feeling they get from me. Including my boss. Which can't be good. But the sex is good, and I hate to interrupt it with "Honey, let's get over with it and sleep". Shit, I rarely felt asleep before 2 am and I need to get at 6 am to go to work.

cookie_cutter (533841) | more than 9 years ago | (#8967874)

Its basically an industrial strength antiperspirant that plugs your pores. Its great for those with overactive sweat glands.

(Yes, this means there is a cure for ball-sweat)

My brother uses it and now has dry hands year round. Just reapply once a week before bedtime. The stuff can really burn the first couple times you use it.

In Canada its available without a prescription at any drug store. Just ask for it at the Pharmacist's counter.

Other alternatives include iontophoresis (don't buy the unit, just build one yourself with some aligator clips, a resistor and a bunch of 9V batteries in series).

Surgery is also an option for overactive sweat glands, but I'd say the risks outweigh the benefits in that instance.

mice are bad news (3, Insightful)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#8968084)

A lot of RSI injuries are mouse-related. I don't believe an ergonomic setup should include a mouse type device.
Myself, I use a Kinesis Classic (it's $200, but worth every penny) and stick to the shell whenever possible. If your windowing environment supports keyboard shortcuts (as any good one should) then you don't even need a mouse. There are exceptions, but even then there's usually a better, less injury-prone device to use (frex, graphic artists are better off using a tablet).

Huh, I can definitely see what they're saying, I get made fun of all the time for having sweaty hands.

However, the lede made me think of summer and electricity. When the weather gets warmer, I'm planning to turn my comp off at sunrise and not turn it back on until it gets dark out. When this year's repeated blackouts happen, I don't want to feel guilty about it, you know?

forget mice. use a trackball. (2, Funny)

using a mouse requires movement of the entire upper extremity.

using a trackball requires movement of yr thumb.

it's much more efficient, and now i have MUSCLES, something i never could've gotten, using a mouse. of course, only my thumb is awesomely rippled, but hey, it's a start.
