Batman Begins Trailer Online

meltoast writes "The trailer for the Batman Begins is available on the Warner Brothers website. Also check out the pictures of the new Batmobile on the same site. All I can say is holy big tires, Batman!" The Batmobile design is reminiscent of the one from Dark Knight Returns, but I think I prefer it over the one Adam West used to cruise around in.

....that it is a 'teaser' not a 'trailer' considering they show absolutely nothing but that 'it's coming' in a year...

I'm a little behind on my batman lore. What's with the monster truck batmobile in the pictures section?

Re:I Believe.... (4, Informative)

One Louder (595430) | more than 10 years ago | (#9840262)

Frank Miller did a deconstruction of the Batman myth in the graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns" which takes place when he's in his sixties and comes out of retirement because the crime in Gotham has gotten out of hand. The Batmobile looks very much like the one in the photo gallery - oh, and Robin is a girl.

it is a 'teaser' not a 'trailer' considering they show absolutely nothing but
Not necessarily absolutely nothing though. The very first thing I thought while watching it was that there was no legacy whatsoever from the world Tim Burton created in the previous series. ABSOLUTELY no more Joel Schumacher's so ambiguously gay theme either. Obviously Warner is reinventing the series, which is good. The film appears so British!!

Director: Christopher Nolan
Actors: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson
Location? ... hmm

It's obviously more pessimistic and darker than the previous series. I was becoming sick lately of optimistic live-action adaptations of Marvel comics. I can't wait for this one.

Beef (19842) | more than 10 years ago | (#9840231)

In The Onion AV Club review of Catwoman, it pointed out a key difference between Marvel and DC: Marvel insists on getting the last say as to how their characters are used. If DC did the same, we wouldn't be subjected to the likes of "Batman and Robin" and "Catwoman."

Re:It's got to be better than Catwoman (5, Funny)

pHatidic (163975) | more than 10 years ago | (#9840259)

Yes and then we will need something to erase the memory of Batman. Which is why the next Warner Bros. movie will be Batman Vs. Catwoman. Only when they go for the epic battle they will get really attracted to eachother and have a love child named ManWoman. Which will be the central character of a future Hollywood blockbuster starring Janet Reno.

GNAA Announces Interview wth Real Troll Talk
GNAA Announces Interview with Real Troll Talk

Osaka, Japan - In a worldwide first, GNAA founder and president timecop agreed to conduct an interview with Real Troll Talk, a Slashdot member documenting the ways and means of internet trolls worldwide.

Although meant to be a one on one interview, several GNAA members were present in the audience, and many "contributed" to the interview by shouting out points that timecop forgot and by calling him an asshole. "The interview went well," timecop said afterward, "I was very pleased with the interest in GNAA and the exposure we'll be getting through this. Real Troll Talk seemed to have an unhealthy obsession with the sexual aspects of GNAA, though."

GNAA member godspeed noted that "The interview was really good, and I have a strong feeling that Real Troll Talk may be a homosexual black man himself. You could say my gaynigdar was set off by that dude." Opened to other GNAA members for comment, vSKIZZILE was quick to add "HAHA FGTS! You are all gay, LOL @ WTC LOL @ JEWS!!!! FRIST POSTAGE FOR GNAA!"

A transcript of the interview is available in Real Troll Talk #6, available at Real Troll Talk's Slashdot journal [slashdot.org]

You may be right. But, OTOH, none of the previous actors filling the role ever played a serial killer, let alone as well as Christian Bale did. So at the very least, it should be interesting.

Oh, and he's British too, which I assume marks another first for the Batman franchise.

Cristian Bale is actually Batman, and he was pretty solid in a not half bad sci-fi movie, Equilibrium. Worth a watch for the Slashdot crowd. Some Matrix derivitave kung fu type stuff that didn't go very far, but a lot better movie than I expected and Christian Bale was pretty good, although the role didn't require much emotion, I think of the way many stars can botch whatever they do.

How to make the new batmobile (4, Interesting)

British (51765) | more than 10 years ago | (#9840164)

Mix equal parts:

F-1 race car

Military troop carrier

I think it's a neat variation. It's better than the all-too-flashy neon light decorated batmobile in the last movie. That seemed more like a showcar than a "fight the bad guys" vehicle. The Batmobile from the first movie was a well-done machine.

I don't see the justification in jet engines though for the previous vehicles. But with all the torque you would need on the big tires on the new one, perhaps the engine is justified.

I would think, with the Batman franchise continuing on into an eco-crazy millenium, Batman wouldn't convert the Batmobile into an dually-wheeled SUV! How about at least a Bat-hybrid?!

But then again, what do I know -- he's got a fire-breathing mega-engine on the back of that... and that's DEFINITELY not environmentally friendly.

Christian Bale is actually a very talented actor who excels in playing very complicated characters with serious internal battles. Just look at American Psycho, Empire of the Sun, and (to a lesser extent) Equilibrium. Bruce Wayne's internal struggle between the man and the bat is one in which every movie tried to grapple with but never really succeeded because the action was always top priority. Christopher Nolan, an expert of the psychological, directing this movie gives it the best chance in succeeding in profiling Batman's psyche.

Heres a suggestion. How about making a geekbox that we can uncheck. I could care less wether the default assumption is made that I am a total geek, but I prefer to indicate that I am not and have content like this filtered accordingly. I'm not putting down geeks. Hell, I shared a lunch table with them for years. I just don't have the same interests.

Okay, I'm officially much more excited about this movie next summer than Revenge of the Sith [starwars.com] . It looks like they're going back to what works for Batman; George long ago lost sight of what was good in Star Wars.

Interesting to notice that there isn't a prominently featured love interest anywhere in the photos on the website. This is great to see: romantic subplots really don't jive with the whole disturbed-anarchist-hell-bent-on-vengance thing.

A rumor... (2, Informative)

Has anyone else heard about this movie possibly being directed by Darren Aronofski? (Requiem for a dream, Pi) I've heard this from other people, and was just curious to see if anyone else had heard anything similar

Well, based on the trailer, they've already started filming, and imdb.com says "Directed by Christopher Nolan." Doesn't seem likely that Darren Aronofski's handling this flick.

Can we have - Batman ENDS? (1)

With the incredible job that has been done with Spiderman and X-Men, why do they have to beat batman to death? The first two were ok, dark, brooding, just like the comics. Then they decided to follow the campy television series.

They have pretty much killed batman already IMO. The studios have the right idea with the Marvel franchise - but it seems that Dollar Comics produces worse movies. I wonder why that is?

Then they decided to follow the campy television series.

My problem with the last two Batman movies isn't so much that they went campy -- I really, really like the 60s series a lot. It has a sense of the absurd that is just a pure joy to watch. The problem with the last two movies is that they didn't do it *well.* They didn't do anything well at all.

...but I think I prefer it over the one Adam West used to cruise around in.

That's just crazy talk. I really don't like this new Batmobile at all -- I just don't get the whole "bigger = better" aesthetics that seem to dominate car design these days (American design, at least, though everyone is in on the SUV game now).

Oh well, at least Bruce Wayne won't mind if gas prices go up, unlike all the fools who complain after buying gas guzzlers.

Holy crappy website Batman (2, Informative)

TintinX (569362) | more than 10 years ago | (#9840378)

Rubbish site with everything opening in a popup or a _blank.
I saw pictures of the 'new' batmobile about a year ago and it looks like a sporty version of a farmer's tractor.
I've always been severely let down by the Batman movies. Each one seems to claim that it's true to the darkness of the original 'The Batman' story, but they never are.
There's so much potential in a Batman movie as he's the only 'superhero' who actually isn't.
He's merely a vigilante with the cash to develop some seriously cool anti-crime gadgets.
Ah, if only....

Anyone else notice... (1)

That there are clickable areas hidden in the batman logo. They appear to link to photos; I just thought it was odd. They also have place holder things like 'legal information goes here'.

Looks Interesting (1)

This is the first I have heard of the movie. Batman is a great character and many people who love to complain about the batman movies, completely forget about the first. It was actually very good. The second movie was saved by the fantastic cast. 3 and 4 were just kid movies not meant to be anything more.

The trailer indicates that they are going back to when Bruce Wane first decided to become Batman. It also looks like this one will have a more serous tone than even the first. I suspect their won't even be any real "bad guy".

This appears to be very different from any previous Batman movie to date. I don't think anybody should be quick to judge this one based on some of it predecessors.
