SCO.com Defaced

I have often wondered, to myself, what if this is wrong sinking to their level? Someone defaces their site and its seen as a bad reflection on the linux communitys.

But when it comes down to it, this is not, even remotely close to what SCO are doing! SCO are thieves. Scum. They are wishing to use the legal syste, to gain and ownership and control and misuse the code of thousands of programmers, to scum off them and make profit on what is not theirs, they wish to lie and cheat and deprive the real workers and people playing by the rules of the benefits of their work, and they send letters to senators saying to make open source and linux and GPL unconstitutional??? This is not just a case of a minor disagreement between people about code this is SCO a thieving company wishing to exploit the works already done by so many people. Lying, theft, unconsciounable deceipt and exploitation

I think some graphics replaced on their website is really minor considering the filthy actions they are trying to do!!!. Really!!!

There was more to this hack up this morning (see comments further down or other sites).

Most of it seems to have been removied, but because of the simplicity of this, it appears as though it got forgotten about.wholey agree though, I didn't initially notice anything wrong when told to go look.

it hasn't been removed yet. I bet the whole point was to get it posted on /. to add the dreaded /. effect to the defacement...

Re:Oh man... (1)

DenDave (700621) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942072)

I just saw it and it was still there at sco.com... perhaps they weren't hacked at all and Darl McBride has a corporate slogan for his shareholders?

Unbelievable! And very, very funny :D

Re:Slow aswell... (5, Funny)

Ralph Yarro (704772) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942043)

Hopefully they wont be as slow when they start doing the linux support we pay them for

When they start? I'm already getting the full service.

As a completely unbiased and disinterested observer, I bought a SCO license to see what the fuss was about. Since then NOBODY has sued me for anything, least of all for violating any code SCO might possibly have in the Linux kernel (including any Linux kernels in alternate universes). You can't argue with service like that. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Yes, I'm sure this will help the whole legal case; defacement has always been such a valued piece of input in court *cough*.

Actually, if you managed to kill their revenue enough from defacing like this, they would have to fire all their lawyers and hence would loose the case.

Re:It could be a help (1)

Actually, if you managed to kill their revenue enough from defacing like this, they would have to fire all their lawyers and hence would loose the case.

I don't think you fully understand how the SCO works. If they started to lose money becuase of website defacement, they would simply shut the site down and take whatever funds were allocated for running it to sue the bajeezus out of whoever they could find that may or may not actually be responsable, facts be damned.

Changing only one image and in a way that it looks like it absolutely belongs...

all I can say is that all you other ankle-biters out there need to learn from this....

posting defacings that look like viagra adds and filled with shouts and greetZ only makes you look like a very silly child with only script-kiddie skillz.

(oh and spelling that way makes you simply look like a wanna-be)

congrats to whoever did it. they needed to make it a little more discreet to see if it would have stayed there for a week or more...

Art imitating reality (1)

hcob$ (766699) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942003)

The irony is that's how they want to be. Them and Microsoft, that is. They want to own all the intellectual property out there so that all they have to do is sic a lawyer on someone and they have no choice but to settle. Sounds like someone is doing an end-run around anti-trust laws.

I wonder... (0, Redundant)

Iphtashu Fitz (263795) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942005)

I wouldn't put it past SCO to "deface" their own site just to give them something to go scream in the press about. Their court cases are suffering badly and suddenly their website is "hacked", so they now conveniently have something to bash all those l33t hax0rs (who must all be running illegal copies of linux which they own) that they can hype in the press.

Re:I wonder... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#10942031)

I am thinking the same thing. This looks to be about wrapped up. I suspect it was themselves.

Anything to make their opposition look bad in the eyes of the courts and any considering PHB's.

Damn - it won't go "Slashdotted"

Careful! You may be falling right into SCO's "trap". Just think - they "hack" their own website then post the fact to Slashdot. Their site gets slashdotted and next thing you know they're running to all the reporters who will listen about how their website was hacked and DDoS'd again.

Mod me "conspiracy theorist".

Idiotic Sarcasm (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#10942099)

"Yes, I'm sure this will help the whole legal case; defacement has always been such a valued piece of input in court *cough*."

Oh, yes, heavens! You assuredly are perfectly right. This foul foul deed will expose all linux users (whose characters and virtue ever so directly affect the outcome of the lawsuit--and indeed *all* lawsuits--against IBM) as fiendish hackers with no morals and baby-eating tendencies.

And no, my subject does not refer to my idiotic sarcasm just above.

What exactly does some script-kiddy's playtime have to do with linux users/opensource community/SCO vs. IBM lawsuit??? Why are you implying it is in any way relevant? Do you always make stupid and meaningless generalisations?

Not convinced (1)

phrostie (121428) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942110)

I'm not convinced that they did not do it themselves to counter the stock drop/bad PR from the posting of the BSD/USL settlement.

the simpathy scam has worked for them time and time again.

and don't tell me they would not do something that dishonest. they've been caught time and time again lying to everyone.

Possible (1)

BCW2 (168187) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942112)

Did SCO do it to themselves? Two reasons:
1. They do think this way.
2. To look like victims in court.

I must admit I enjoyed it no matter who did it. Childish, but funny.

Rumors for Nerds, stuff that doesn't matter (3, Insightful)

FlynnMP3 (33498) | more than 9 years ago | (#10942114)

Ooo. A hacked image has been placed on the SCO website. Alert all the SCO haters of the world! (long list granted)

I dislike SCO's business practices as much as the next /.er, but deliberately and maliciously hacking their website certainly doesn't help the business hat's outlook at the open source community.

Yes I know there probably is no corrolation between some script kiddie and the Open Source movement. It's all impressions anyway.

Free clue for the would-be SCO hackers out there: SCO makes themselves look like idiots - very well I might add. They certainly don't need your help.
