Fan Made Halo RTS, IloveBees Interview

Zonk posted more than 9 years ago | from the market-branching dept.

First Person Shooters (Games) 26

By way of Evil Avatar, news of a Command and Conquer Generals mod to be set in the Halo universe. Entitled Halogen, the fan-made RTS appears to have much of the preliminary work completed already. Relatedly, TotalVideoGames is carrying an interview with ILoveBees actress Kristen Rutherford. She discusses her role as the schizoid AI in the Halo-Universe Alternate Reality Game. From the interview: "The characters in l love bees are all characters within the Haloverse. Melissa was the A.I. of the ship Apocalypso in the same way that Cortana was the A.I. for the Pillar of Autumn."

First post? (-1, Offtopic)

Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. Long time listener, first time poster. :-)

This article was only posted to the games section. Getting a first post is hardly impressive. Try getting a first post on a front page story. In the meantime, go fuck yourself fag.

Yikes. Nothing like welcoming in the new guy. Why would getting FP on a front page story be "worth" anything more than a silly joke under an insignificant headline? It was a *joke*, you anonymous coward. Lighten up, and lay off the childish, un-called for comments.

Re:First post? (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#11401687)

It was a joke FP? What the fuck does that mean? You posted a claim of first post. You are the one that showed the value you placed on a first post. The fact is that it is more difficult to get a first post on a story that is posted to the front page than a section specific story. If you can't figure out why - you're far more dumb than I originally thought.

Anyway, fuck you. It was a lame FP, even if you call it a joke. Only dumbasses try to call FP on a section specific story and thus, you are a dumbass. By the way, you had sex with Osama bin Laden and your girlfriend's anus can take two baseball bats simultaneously.

Someone claiming "first post" on any subject or topic, without adding anything to the value of the discussion, is just a long-running joke within slashdot. Whether it's done on some major front-page story, or on some lame game news, it's insignificant. Why don't you just grow up, and stop shooting your mouth off to people you don't even know. You're just a coward hiding behind anonymity; if you treat people in real life the way you talk to people here, you're going to end up one sad, lonely person.

Microsoft? (2, Interesting)

AtariAmarok (451306) | more than 9 years ago | (#11398284)

I tried to read the site, but the desingers basically put up a "keep out" sign by having the text color be little different from the background color. I guess that should cut down on slashdotting.

Was wondering what Microsoft thinks of such Halo-ish projects? Do they care? Can they whomp you for it?

Say, like... Red vs Blue? Who are basically selling DVDs using Microsoft's intellectual property, with their blessing?

I think MS has caught on to the fact that a community of rabid-fan boys (and talented modders) will drive sales. Seems win-win to me.

I won't post a link to her site... (1)

.. because it would be overloaded and because she's gorgeous and would send many of you into your own personal overload.

She claimed in phone chat at the end of ilovebees that she has Halo 2 and a Live account. If she's smart, though, she'll keep her gamertag a very closely guarded secret or else she'll be inundated with friend requests and probably have to deal with a lot of inappropriate online behavior.

If you're reading this, thanks for the interview, Kristen, and thanks for your role in ILB.

i was at the dinner in Washington DC she mentions in the interview, such a wonderful, charming person, and she's a gamer to boot!

Here's a pic [kristenrutherford.com] of Ms. Rutherford braving the slightly chilly temperatures of a photo shoot.

syrinx (106469) | more than 9 years ago | (#11398678)

So now will people who've never played games before think that Halo is the first RTS, too?

Re:halo (2, Funny)

centauri (217890) | more than 9 years ago | (#11398783)

RTS... that stands for Ring Takeover Scenario, right?

Re:halo (1)

drxray (839725) | more than 9 years ago | (#11399586)

Well, it's a mod for C&C Generals. So, no.

Oh yeah, and Kristen Rutherford is hot [kristenrutherford.com] .

Lol, in all fairness she has a nice resume [nowcasting.com] as well.

HAKdragon (193605) | more than 9 years ago | (#11401367)

I find it kind of interesting because Halo started life out as a strategy game instead of a FPS. There's a video floating around somewhere (if somebody has a link, please post, I'd like to see it again), of Bungie employees commenting on video of earlier Halo concepts.

CoffeeJedi (90936) | more than 9 years ago | (#11401604)

its on the bonus DVD of the Halo 2 special edition

The Evolution of Halo [bungie.org]

This is the video you were referring to. Builds from the RTS sci-fi Myth days, up the the E3 2000 demo build. Interesting video to say the least.
This was later re-edited into the video seen on the Halo 2 LE DVD.

Hey, Thanks mentioning my mod I appreciate it. In regards to the website, I'll admit our site isn't the prettiest but I've never had any complaints about readability, I am open to suggestions. A new Flash website is under construction now and is set to debut in mid-Febuary.

Thanks again.

not flash! (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#11404753)

If readability is an issue, Flash is the completely wrong way to address it!

Re:Thanks (1)

skotte (262100) | more than 9 years ago | (#11413049)

My suggestion, as solicited:

Avoid fFlash. Makes nice banners, cute animations, and is a clever toy fFor making mild amusements.

It should not however replace actual content.

fFlash is easy to mis-use, doesnt always scale well, and usually leaves everyone annoyed with the end result.

What the...? (1)

Novous (844236) | more than 9 years ago | (#11408443)

Why are we reporting a mod that isn't even near being out? It's just a mod for goodness sakes. It's not a cure for cancer next week. Couldn't we wait till it had a playable beta version?

Flash makes good websites (0)
