Many of you are no doubt familiar with the works of mc chris. He's probably most well known as the high pitched rapper on the track 'Fett's Vette' that you probably have an MP3 of somewhere. In addition to several highly entertaing albums, he's also the voice of MC Pee Pants (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and Hesh (Sealab 2021). He's now touring, but you better already have tickets since he sold out his first 8 shows (including my local venue. The wife is very unhappy with me for not getting tickets in time). He'll also be performing at the Penny Arcade Expo later this year. This is your chance to ask him those burning questions.       In the Aqua teen theme song, it says "Meatwad get the money, see. Meatwad get the honeys, G."

      However, it has been proven time and again that Meatwad gets neither money nor honeys. Please explain this discrepancy.
    • Heh. I can't help it. Everytime I hear someone use that expression I always hear Tom Servo's distant comment:

    Taco, don't be such a cheapskate, go buy tickets from a scalper.

    I had it good when I lived in Michigan, I could buy tickets, actual tickets over the phone or internet for shows in Detroit, Pine Knob, etc without much trouble. If I had to pay a scalper it was only a 100% markup.

    Now I live in Santa Cruz and tickets to even the drunks on Pacific avenue sell out in seconds. Scalpers will happily take $500 for a ticket that cost them $30 and they'll get it.

    I rely on local bands now. Support your local musicians before they're replaced by DJ's and Karoke.

      Here's a quick description.

      MC Chris is a combination of Puff Daddy, Vanilla Ice, Snow, Eminem and William Hung.

      But just the worst parts of them.

      He's truly awful. His beats are terrible, his rhyming is sloppy. He's not a good lyricist.

      He is to Rap music what Pat Boone was to 50's Rock and Roll. Mc Chris makes Rap music for people who don't like Rap music.

        Those are your opinions, and you're welcome to them, but I have no idea how you could say he's not a good lyricist. Everyone here who likes to jump on the bandwagon of "I never heard of him, therefore he must suck" and "The only rap songs I hear are the ones shoved down my throat by popular radio, therefore all rap sucks" should just look up the lyrics to Fette's Vette somewhere and read them. Now imagine yourself trying to write a goofy song with the same complexity of rhythm, rhyme scheme, story-telling and humor.

        This verse alone is pure genius...

        I no longer have to hot-wire
        I'm a hunter for hire with no plans to retire
        And all you sucker MCs can call me sire.

        Just because something sounds goofy doesn't mean it's not complex, creative or even good.

        I agree. In terms of "nerdcore" rap, MC Frontalot [frontalot.com] is a far better lyricist -- and he hates Jar-Jar, too.

        Fortunately Frontalot will also be at the Penny Arcade Expo, so you can decide for yourselves.

    What do you do to deal with the pressures of touring? After seeing you at the Hartford show(The guy that yelled out Sharko Sucks!) it is pretty amazing to see someone who has basically been run ragged over the past few months still put on an amazing performance.

    • Ah, the pressures of Touring. That reminds me of a question. I have no idea who this "artist" is. But, I would like to ask him if he has any riders in his contract? Van Halen used to have a rider in their touring contract that their dressing room would have a bowl filled with M&M's, but that there could be absolutely no green M&M's in that bowl.

        There are two takes on this. The first is that this sort of term in the contract allows an artist to basically do what the hell they like (e.g. cancel shows, get paid stuff, whatever) if it isn't met; which it very likely won't be.

        IIRC, it was brown M&M's. And as long as we're relating 80's rock trivia, Wang Chung's contracts stipulated that they not be given Chinese food for dinner, after venue after venue looked at their name and figured they'd like General Tso's chicken.

        My guess, though, is that MC Pee Pants doesn't quite have the negotiating power of a Van Halen, probably not even that of a Wang Chung.

  • Just picking nits, but it's "mc chris"

    As he says, lower case, no dots.

    I purchased his albums and played them for my friends. They all loved his shit. Nothing says rock like nerdcore.

    I know he left the [AS] guys, but I wonder if he'll come back every year as MC Pee-Pants like he has been.. And I know Sealab won't be the same without everyone's favorite notary/prostitute, Hesh.

    I know some voice actors, for example, use their natural voices for cartoon characters (Bugs Bunny, etc.). When you rapped, as MC Pee Pants (or Sir Loin) for ATHF, was that your natural voice? If not, can you post a clip of your real voice?
    • I recognize the same voice as both Hesh and on ATHF.

      I'm not impressed by his character work or rapping at all. Maybe I'm a minority with this opinion, but there are thousands of really talented people out there in these fields - and he's not one of them.

    • I think this is one of the very rare cases on Slashdot where asking a legitimate question during an interview can be seen as karma whoring due to the lack of a substantial amount of people knowing who this person is.

    Why is it that MC Pee Pants gets absolutely no respect from Satan, whereas the WisdomCube/Dubmassahedron does? To me, MC Pee Pants, while not as intelligent as the aforementioned geometric characters, is vastly more entertaining than that lot.

    Chris is good at what he does, and is getting even better. Go download some of his music, he has an album you can download for free called "Life's a Bitch and I'm her Pimp" it has a song on it about how Boba Fett bounty hunts so he can pay for his Corvette.

    How hard was it to get back on your feet after parting company with Simon and Theodore? In retrospect, was it wise to change your name from Alvin to MC Chris? Didn't that alienate alot of fans or perhaps just left them searching for their favorite chipmunk? How's Dave?

    Do you feel that your work edifies your audience? How so?
    In your opinion, how does hip-hop differentiate between characterizing a problem, with an eye towards debugging, and glorifying the problem?
    Now, you're clearly a big star, or you wouldn't be on /., so you've made money (is there another metric?): will you do anything unexpected? Challenging? The first rap symphony?

    Did you get to spend much time with the late Harry Goz? (Harry [imdb.com] was Captain Murphy on Sealab, amongst many other things). What are your thoughts on him? Will we see more work with AdultSwim in the future?

  • I got the unbelievable opportunity to see you in Baltimore, and the show was phenomenal. You were also just a really nice guy and treated your fans as equals and peers after the show, which was very refreshing and really cool.

    So which show was your favorite so far? Any hilarious foul-ups or unmitigated disasters so far :)? Or was everything as smooth as the show @ the Ottobar in B-more?

    Since you are a musician, you must be using computers for your musical needs. Do you trust Open Source or Propriety software for that?

    Also for general computing, what do you use?

  • Hey there chris... Stormy from penny-arcade.com here. Being an internet celebrity isn't as easy as it seems. I know; I have to live with people everyday that don't realize who I am. Just wanted to say that Slashdot encompasses a much wider sub-set of geeks than I believe PA does, and this group is not representative of our crew. At PAX, women will want to have sex with you, and men will want to be you. We are down with the Nerdcore.

    That said, in addition to mc chris, we also have returning guests from last year:

    Lastly, a couple of questions from me.

    1)My girlfriend is a *huge* fan of the Brak Show, Sealab, etc... have you really left for good?

    2)Making music for the Nerdcore seems problematic to me. Namely, I don't think that one would be able to put forth a bunch of intellectual property on the internet and expect this group to actually pay for it. Are you 'making it' on the take from the door at your gigs alone? (Hat's off on leaving your day job and giving it a go in either case).

    3)Do you feel pressured to put forth a conventional full-length CD for your fans, or will you continue to offer up shorter, sweeter groups of songs for free on your website?

    Since the 'Happy Birthday' song [snopes.com] is copyrighted, would you consider open-sourcing Hesh's Birthday Song [pod-six.net] under something like the Creative Commons License? I'd rather hear it than the cheezy home-brew birthday songs that restaurants are forced to devise.
