Zombie Lurch

CmdrTaco posted more than 8 years ago | from the it-only-takes-braaaaaaains dept.

Entertainment 102

user_granstro writes "Madison, Wisconsin is the next city to face the shambling undead hordes. At 2pm on Saturday, October 22, zombie fans will assemble in full costume to kick off Zombie Lurch 2005. Organizer Maddie Greene, a self-styled zombie expert, says of the event, "I think that any bystander could jump right in and become a zombie with the proper groaning and limping and attitude.""

Tired of dupes, Taco has decided to debut the zombie article. The story's dead, but it won't lie down.

This is ridiculous (5, Insightful)

PunkOfLinux (870955) | more than 8 years ago | (#13857391)

I can understand the dupes. I can understand the trolls. But NOT posting a time-sensitive story such as this is ridiculous. This was yesterday, mr. editor.

In response to the question "Don't you have ANY brains?!", Cmdr Taco simply gibbered and mumbled something about a zombie having eaten most of them the day before.

pipingguy (566974) | more than 8 years ago | (#13861240)

Naturally, The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror episides are being rebroadcast now.

At one point the zombies break into the house, discover Homer, and start exploring for brains (looking in his ear, knocking on his head). Finding none, they move away.

The best part is the scene where Homer stands there offended.

Nah, he is right in some sense.

Slashdot is a place where zombies, including the editors march 365 days a year, so i guess that one day difference where we celebrate it doesn't really matter.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

But NOT posting a time-sensitive story such as this is ridiculous. This was yesterday, mr. editor.
The only mistake was referring to it in the future tense. It would have been a lame and pointless storie without zombie pics. If you're thinking the point was to increase participation, slashdot is the wrong forum for that because it is national and international.

You should have said:
I guess nerd related news is getting pretty hard to find

Except that it is nerd related - two reasons:

1) Zombies
2) Lurching

Only once a year? Nonsense! (4, Funny)

ScentCone (795499) | more than 8 years ago | (#13857406)

I live the Washington, DC area. Just head downtown on any given day and you'll see the local Zombie Lurch Chapter doing their finest. There's even a delegation from every state. It's a veritable Church Of the Zombie Lurch. Second only, perhaps, to the nearest Junior High School literature classroom.

The real danger... (2, Insightful)

Pii (1955) | more than 8 years ago | (#13858493)

Here we have these people crying wolf. If these kind of events become routine, how will any of us know when the real zombie outbreaks occur?

We'll all have been lured into a false sense of security:

"Oh, those zombies? Don't worry about them. They're just pretending. Hey, look how realistic... That blood around their mouths, and the rotting flesh effects, they almost look real. BRAVO zombie immitators, Bravo. OUCH! THAT'S MY BRAIN YOU'RE EATING YOU INSENSITIVE CLOD!"

But then it's too late.

I strongly discourage these events. The next time I see a zombie horde, I want to feel secure in the knowledge that it really is time to naplam the streets, and start taking head-shots at my formerly peaceful neighbors.

Re:Meh (1)

Lord_Dweomer (648696) | more than 8 years ago | (#13858977)

See, that's what I'd be worried about. I mean, if I was at a department store or something when one of these things went on, the first thing I'd be doing is looking for the Sporting Goods section and making like Bruce Campbell.

Frankly, I'm shocked they weren't locked up as terrorists for trying to spread a biological disease.

PTHBBTT (5, Funny)

Bastian (66383) | more than 8 years ago | (#13857557)

It wasn't nearly as exciting as the Post-Homecoming Game Zombie Revelry in the Streets that happened yesterday evening. Zombies lurching down State Street may be kind of cute, but it can't compete with the awesome power of thousands of zombies in red shirts [buckyslockerroom.com] shambling aimlessly around the city, consuming unholy quantities of some unknown urine-colored substance (possibly the sustenance needed to keep them alive since all the brains in town had locked themselves in and shuttered their windows for the weekend?), driving like spastic blind chimpanzees at incredible speed all over town, urinating on the sidewalk, and so on. It turned particularly exciting around 10:00PM - about four hours into the event - when many of the males began fighting outside bars, presumably over alpha status.

Given the pics on your home page, I doubt you should ever speak to anyone about parties.

Gee, you do seem to have a lot of fun. I wish I were invited. (insert negation at random)

Why not make a home page with the text: "Me and my homies are stupid fucks that like to rub ugly girls with foodstuff". It would save you a lot of time.

By that logic we have a zombie lurching party every day. Why zombies need to lurch on the tuesday night of midterm weekend, or a tuesday in general is beyond me, but it's very irresponsible of them. Thankfully I have to drive through their swarm up University Avenue every night and do my best to raise the body count and delay their shambling masses.

themusicgod1 (241799) | more than 8 years ago | (#13859927)

During most of my life I've worked on weekends; usually friday night, saturday sunday. And pretty much everything interesting worthy of my time involving large numbers of people was either on a friday, sunday or saturday; I would have however probably been able to make this zombie-march-thing, since it was on a tuesday. You cannot please everyone's schedule all the time; and to think that everyone should follow your schedule is pure hubris.

Nice sig there. Good to see people following exactly in the word of Christ.

So, I'm sure that you're also not doing any of the following..

Wearing any sorts of blended fabrics, which includes most clothes today. (Lev 19:19)
Growing any gardens with more than one sort of vegetable.. (Also Lev 19:19)
Eating shrimp, lobster, crab, or any number of other seafood products (Lev 11:10)
Shaving your face. Ever. (Lev 19:27)
Eating any steak or hamburger cooked less than medium or medium-well (Lev 17:10)
Getting a tattoo. Also, don't write on your hand. (Lev 19:28)

There is a word for the sort of person who would call homosexuality a sin while having a shaven or even trimmed face. Hypocrite. Do you perhaps see how Lev 18:22 could perhaps be antiquated and, dare I say, even WRONG? Either follow ALL of these or stop trying to reinforce reptile-brained homophobia with cherry-picked scripture.

The preceding are 'abominations' or otherwise forbidden. There is no 'point system' so, doing ANY of this is equal to homosexuality. Have you ever shaved before in your entire life? Hey, you're already in Sinville. Off to the bath houses!

Keep in mind that there ARE a number of gay, bi, lesbian, or otherwise alt-sex individuals who make use of Slashdot. Posting up a weak argument against homosexuality as a sig is not the brightest of ideas.

Zombies storm American Idol auditions... (3, Interesting)

antdude (79039) | more than 8 years ago | (#13858015)

This past event [dailytexanonline.com] was better. Even the zombies look cooler (grosser)! Copied and pasted from AQFL [aqfl.net] :

The Daily Texan [dailytexanonline.com] (with gross photographs) reports on Thursday outside the Frank Erwin Center [uterwincenter.com] , a horde of zombies attacked the "American Idol" [idolonfox.com] auditions. No one was hurt.

The zombies, 15 fake-bloodied actors in all, lurched out from under the IH-35 overpass and shuffled toward the Erwin Center, where they encountered the pop-star hopefuls.

Most of the 100 or so young people gathered outside had just been rejected by the "American Idol" review board, and they were talking, singing and waiting for rides home when the zombies arrived. "Braaaaaaains!" the zombies said. Nick Muntean, a UT radio-television-film graduate student who organized and participated in the zombie horde, added, "Television rots your braaaaaaains!" The pop-star wannabes were largely unimpressed.

Seen on Blue's News [bluesnews.com] . I wonder if there are video clips of this!

Do zombies debate the existence of philosophers?
http://www.loris.net/zombie/zexperts.html [loris.net]
Philosophers disagree, but they may be covert zombies:
"Zombies won't be able to do philosophy." - last line
preceeding 7th major heading, and "A zombie has a different philosophy. That is the only difference. Therefore, zombies can only be detected if they happen to be philosophers." -from 8th major heading.

Then there is also the Catholic notion of being "dead in sin" - having comitted a mortal sin and feeling no remorse or contrition, rejecting Truth entirely, and embracing, or choosing to be consumed by, a different philosophy.

You'd have to live in Madison to appreciate this (1)

What a great idea for a Halloween event. It would also be a great place to grab some guerrilla footage for your next homemade zombie movie.

I really like the zombie flash mob idea, too. Wonder if that would work for independent filmmaking when you needed a bunch of extras? The extra call flash mob, not necessarily a zombie mob, maybe you just need some extras.

It's a thought.
