The Real Next Generation 18

hapycamper writes "GamerDad.com sent their newest reporter, 8 year old Aiden, to tour GenCon SoCal in Anaheim and report back on his first gaming convention. In Through the Eyes of An Eight-Year Old Aiden talks about the con's highlights, including the 'real Stormtroopers' walking around, and playing City of Villians with his dad looking on."

It needs to be taken care of, so it might as well be right off the bat...

"Dad, dad! That lady has almost no clothes on!"
"She's what's called a 'Booth Babe,' son. We'll talk more about her in a few years."
"Can't we talk about her now?"
    "No."
    "But..."
    "No."
    "I j-"
"No. Not for at least four years. Oh look City of Villains. Wanna play?"

    • I was so waiting for the subject of booth babes and cosplayers to be covered, but alas it was not. I'm sure that kid was "in the bathroom" for a bit longer than normal that night :)
  • "At the close of my post-show interview, I asked Aiden whether he would rather play his favorite video game by himself, or a board game with his friends. His answer - a hopeful beacon of light for the next generation - was "I'd rather play with my friends, Dad." I'm sleepy and thought that said he wanted to play with his friend's Dad. Eek... Cool article all the same. Would have loved my dad to take an interest in that sort of thing when I was 8.
  • ...isn't this illegal child labour?
    • ...since his dad wrote the article for him. I was hoping to see something written by the kid himself - I was led on by the [typically] completely craptacular story submission. "In Through the Eyes of An Eight-Year Old Aiden talks about the con's highlights, including the 'real Stormtroopers' walking around, and playing City of Villians with his dad looking on." Uh, no he doesn't. His dad does. hapycamper, in the immortal words of Mr. Hat, YOU GO TO HELL! YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE!
  • This is not through the eyes of an 8-years old. This is stuff that his dad wrote including a few quotes from his son. Why the hell should I care about that?

Next time, have the kid write his own impressions. That'll be interesting to read.

Considering it says he's "their newest reporter", you would think he'd do... you know... his own reporting?

Oh well. I just feel sorry for the kid. Not even ten years old and his dad is already turning him into a pathetic dork that goes to conventions. *sigh*
      • Speak for yourself (I guess you did) I asked for popular science I got popular mechanics... So long as the kid wants to go, it sounds like he has a cool dad.
