New Alliance Race/ 1.11 Notes

Zonk posted more than 8 years ago | from the get-your-ethereal-action-on dept.

The upcoming World of Warcraft expansion has a number of mysteries associated with it, and one of the most often discussed is 'what will the new Alliance race be'? Blizzard has finally unveiled their plans: The new race is the ethereal wisp. Additionally, community mod Caydiem is back on the official forums and has official details on the upcoming 1.11 patch. From those notes: "- Each player will only be allowed to pick up one flag per game in Warsong Gulch. While this decision is slightly restrictive, we do feel the value of teamwork it will teach by allowing each player more opportunity to shine outweighs any negative side-effect. - New Level 1 only Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin bracket available! - If a match-up begins and drops everyone due to lack a lack of players, Horde automatically wins."

I personally work for blizzard, and I feel that the introduction of Wisps allows a new and exciting game mechanic: permanent death. The ability that destroyed Archimonde is available to all Wisps as a racial ability. This power, Detonate, destroys the Wisp in an explosion of energy, sapping the mana of all surrounding adventurers, friend and foe alike. This should provide an extremely interesting addition to the many adventures of Warcraft, particularly when pitted against other players!

This is something I pushed for greatly and I hope that the gaming crowd enjoys it :).

FYI, FST's post was copy & pasted from the Wisp article:

Original klingon? (-1)

I prefered the "cute" articles.

The incomprehensible gamer gibberish style for this story is just silly. Did any of that mean anything to anyone?

They are video game nerds. Nothing video game nerds say ever makes any sense to a non video game nerd.

No, I am... I'm just not a "role playing video game" nerd.

I'm more of a "shoot you in the face" nerd.

I think so. (1)

I understood a good deal of it; I played WC3 (but not WoW) a few years ago. And y'know what? It's still not funny.

This story invloves a Blizzard product (and most likely is from Blizzard.) As with past AFJs from Blizzard, they turned out to be real - examples being the Pandarians, the Goblin Tinker, etc.

Hey, the upcoming Patch 1.11 is set to make the flight paths more interesting, so you'll have more to watch while you sit on your airborne creature and they milk you on your money!

Seriously, why else would flightpaths at all be used? It's an interesting coincidence that this highly boring game element is lacking in a game like Guild Wars, lacking monthly fees.

You don't pay by the hour, meaning that you are perfectly free to do anything else. Why, right now, as I'm on a wind rider, I'm posting to slashdot. You can criticize WoW on many things, but this isn't really one of them. Combined with the teleport/portal mage abilities, I think you're just trolling.

Yes, because the Community Managers and website design staff are also the exact same people responsible for server stability and game design/coding. Such a terrible waste of valuable resources!

Why is all posts, even the true ones, labelled as gay (??) and April Fool's?

Just because it was posted that day, doesn't mean it has anything to do with an April Fool's joke.

dude, the post is serious, but the articles it's talking about are not. Wisps are NOT going to be the new WoW race. Night Elves turn into wisps instead of normal ghosts when they die. Besides, even if they did, permanent death would not go over well, especially if the only bonus is that everyone around you loses 50 mana. 50 mana is nothing once you pass like level 5. They're just fooling around with the players. And if you know anything about WoW, you'll know the 1.11 patch notes are a bunch of inside jokes based on things that people find annoying. for instance, "Night Elves will now lose a small percentage of experience after jumping." Players get annoyed that NE's jump all the time. and "In order to assist with various upkeep costs, at a designated time NPC vendors will now give players an amount of gold based upon their level. This is currently slated to occur every Tuesday from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM PST." The timeslot mentioned is when WoW brings all their servers down for maintenance and realm cleanup. Nobody can log on to get the free gold. So although the post itself seems serious, the articles it's talking about are 100% Grade A Farce.

I particularly liked the part about new grass areas being added to the opposing faction lands. "This grass is exceptionally green."

Check out the Wisp with facial hair. (4, Funny)

Caspian (99221) | more than 8 years ago | (#15041457)

On the page, you can see a Wisp with a beard and moustache. ;> The page talks about how you can choose a wide variety of facial hair for your Wisp.

Makes it look like a villain from a bad '80s cartoon...
