The Pirate Bay Finds Permanent Home

C4st13v4n14 writes "The Pirate Bay finally gets permanent hosting and immunity against foreign copyright holders." No clue how long this latest arrangement will hold out, or if copyright holders will be able to touch them while they are hosted in their new location. I wonder what the deal looked like to get this done. Strange bedfellows indeed.

Another great way to hide Pirate Bay... pull the iron curtain over it. And after that poorly crafted joke, I'm waiting for the next article to be something along the lines of "RIAA Chairman caught with 65,000 downloaded music albums -- music community in uproar"

No, you have to get your own version of Slashdot - call it "Slashdot N" or something and make it Slashdot.org.eu. Then you can have April fools start whenever you want.

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Dear Leader Kim Jong Il was found dead in his Pyongyang home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

Re:Unsurprising (1)

earthforce_1 (454968) | more than 7 years ago | (#18567407)

That is not as strange as you think - I heard that in Mogadishu, they were showing pirate screenings of "Black Hawk Down" in a parking lot when it first came out a few years ago, only a block from where the events actually happened. Except the Somalians were cheering every time a US soldier died...

18 US KIAs. 1,000 Somalian KIAs. 55 to 1 kill ratio. I wouldn't be cheering if I was them.

Re:Unsurprising (1)

cyber-vandal (148830) | more than 7 years ago | (#18568561)

The 1000 KIA were heavily armed well-equipped troops? If not then your idiotic pissing contest has no meaning.

Re:Unsurprising (1)

desenz (687520) | more than 7 years ago | (#18569005)

Well they might not have been as well armed or trained, but they did have some advantage right? They owned the terrain and had sheer numbers in their favor.
That said, I don't disagree with the OP either. But it wasn't that heavily skewed against them(somalians), I think.

Re:Unsurprising (1)

Shakrai (717556) | more than 7 years ago | (#18570603)

But it wasn't that heavily skewed against them(somalians), I think.

Well, they had rifles, RPGs and sheer numbers. We had air power, training, communications and technology.

I'm kinda surprised that he took my comment as a pissing contest. I was just making the observation that I wouldn't find a lot to be cheerful about in that movie if I was a Somali. Is there anything in "Tora, Tora, Tora" to be cheerful about if you are an American?

Please limit your news consumption to Fox News, CNN, and tabloid-style newspapers. In particular, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the latest ventures of Ms. Brittney Spears and Mr. Kevin Federline. Should that not satisfy you, please help yourself to the field of sporting events; there are reams of information for you to digest.

We promise that by training yourself to not think so critically, future April Fools jokes will provide you with far more entertainment.

Sincerely,

Knowing The Pirate Bay, it IS funny. Have a look around their website, especially at the section on "legal threats". The Swedes understand humour and aren't overly sensitive about what it means.

Regardless, I believe this is great news and I'll be sending Kim Jong-II a pair of platform shoes for xmas this year!

Anyways, it's there and they'd be happy to share some of their pretty good tea with you, aswell as pins with the NK flag and some propaganda magazines. Oh, and books by Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung, newspapers, and general hospitality. Just make sure to call them a week or so beforhand.

Should also note that this is one of the few embassies they have.

sam_handelman (519767) | more than 7 years ago | (#18566897)

If the only stuff you read is US propoganda, you'd think that Kim Jong Il is some kind of tyrant.

What we don't know here in the west - because our massive corporate overlords don't want us to know it! - is that Kim Jong Il has long been a champion of freedom of expression and fundamnental human rights, not only in the DPRK, but on the world stage. Given his principled belief in freedom of expression (a right which, if universally protected on principle, obviously renders copyright moot in a digital era) it's no surprise that he would intervene to ensure that the Pirate Bay could stay in operation.

Just because the guy's funny looking and kinda weird, we allow this Thomas Jefferson of the far east to be demonized in all of our media. As Nerds, you'd think we could look past his obsession with campy movies, use of hair gel, and love of inter-racial threeways - after all, we're just as quirky, or we wouldn't be on slashdot. It's a real shame how we perpetrate these kinds of stereotypes against this stalwart champion of liberty.

Bush bypassed Congressional approval for this action by using RIAA pilots who volunteered for the mission.

House Leader Nancy Pelosi made a statement saying she did not disapprove of this military action because it benefited the media industry in her state - and besides, AIPAC didn't complain either, so she assumed it was all right.
