Climategate spreads to Wikipedia

sparkydevil (261897) writes | more than 4 years ago

sparkydevil (261897) writes "Some catnip to those who have long argued about administrator bias and groupthink in Wikipedia.

Canada's National Post reports here and here that one of the objectives of those promoting Climate alarm was to control Wikipedia. Starting in February 2003 U.K. scientist and Green Party activist William Connolley, one of nine team members, rewrote Wikipedia'½Â½Â(TM)s articles on global warming, on the greenhouse effect, on the instrumental temperature record, on the urban heat island, on climate models, on global cooling as well as working to erase the Little Ice Age, the Medieval Warm Period and infamous hockey stick graph. He rewrote articles on the politics of global warming and on the scientists who were skeptical of the team.

According to the article Connolly created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles, removed more than 500 articles as an administrator and barred over 2000 Wikipedia contributors while rewarding those who supported his views. "In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.""

Great contributor or "climate doctor" (0)

According to this article [] , this is not the first time, William Connolley is in the news. If anyone wants to check out his contributions at wikipedia, they are here [] .

Who is the author of TFA? Lawrence Solomon is author of the book The Deniers [] . Summary at amazon:

Global warming is a question for citizens, not just scientists. We must decide how serious the threat is and what to do about it. But how can we settle the fiercely complicated scientific issues involved? Al Gore?s answer is to rely on the argument from authority. Accept the word of the great scientists who really know, who say that global warming is real, caused primarily by humans and will lead to catastrophe if unchecked. The science is settled, and those who dissent are either crackpots or crooks. Eminent environmentalist Lawrence Solomon was not satisfied with Gore's answer. He decided to find out whether any real scientists dissent from the Gore/U.N. line. What he found shocked him. Not only were there serious scientists who dissented on every headline global warming issue, but the dissenters were by far the more accomplished and eminent scientists.

You're a fucking moron.

How about looking to see if there are any climatologists that disagree that global warming is happening, and that we're causing it?

Or when your doctor makes a diagnosis you don't like, do you immediately go looking for a second opinion from your car mechanic?

Oh yeah, I forgot, the climatologists are all involved in a conspiracy to conceal "the truth", because there is so much money to be made performing research (so much more than the poor oil industry could hope to provide.)

Since you posted anonymously, I will too...

Check out the blog of William M. Briggs (, who has undergrad and grad level degrees in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science respectively (and a PhD in Statistics) - his blog will tell you to seventeen decimal places why AGW is full of shit. How's that?

(And for the record, no one disputes the temperature has gone up since the 70s - the questions are (a) by how much and (b) what's the cause, and there is little to no agreement on these two fundamental issues.)

Oh, and I managed to refute your argument that there are no climatologists who oppose AGW without calling you a "fucking moron", which is more than you managed. I think I deserve modding up just for that, thankyouverymuch!

I was compiling links not expressing an opinion. No need to get personal, please try to stay on topic.

What climatologists? Lindzen or Singer who are real climatologists and disagree with the alarmism or the current chairman of the IPCC, Rajendra Pachauri, who is an engineer?

Nice language BTW.

Deniers attack Wikipedia contributors! (1, Insightful)

Anonymous Coward | more than 4 years ago | (#30500610)

Here is an example of deniers attacking Wikipedia contributors.

It's a shame the extent the deniers go to in order to please their big oil masters.

Do you have the phone number or something of those big oil masters? I think they might owe me some cash.

"It's a shame the extent the deniers go to in order to please their big oil masters." It's amazing how readily one uses ad hominem attacks when they can't attack actual arguments.

So wikipedia gets some actual excepts and people still complain. I supose that is one way of dealing with reality's liberal bias.

Watch the videos by Peter Sinclair (Youtube: greenman3610), []

Debunking one denier myth after another.

It is amazing at what lengths the deniers will go to in order to push their false agenda.
