'Spider-Man 4' Scrapped, Franchise Reboot Planned

derGoldstein (1494129) writes | more than 4 years ago

Sci-Fi 3

derGoldstein (1494129) writes "Yesterday it was asked What SciFi Should Get the Reboot Treatment Next?. If you consider SpiderMan as "proper SciFi", then it would appear that's the answer. According to IMDB, "Sony Pictures decided today to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Instead, the studio will focus on a reboot script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast.""

One of the few franchises that has done rather well, why the hell does it need a reboot? Pay Raimi and Maguire what they want.

Maguire is the worst thing to the franchise. Not saying that the Spider-man movies were bad, just Toby doesn't have confidence... I mean c'mon those were the most monotone one-liners I ever heard Spider-man say...

With the debacle that was Spiderman 3 and the recent successes of the Iron Man and Batman reboots, this makes perfect sense. Iron Man and Batman showed audiences (and moviemakers) what kind of film you can create when you take the storyline serious (but not too serious a la X-Men 3) and respect your audiences' intelligence. Hopefully the next instantiation of Spider Man will do likewise.
