Sony PlayStation Network is Down

JohnWilliams (781097) writes | more than 4 years ago

Sony 4

JohnWilliams (781097) writes "The Sony PlayStation Network appears either to be down, or inaccessible to older ("phat") PS3 units. Players cannot play games that require a connection, even in single-player, offline mode, e.g. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Also, the system date resets to January 1, 2000. Sony is "working on it ..."

Speculation abounds that it is a bug related to 2010 being a leap year."

ok, I humbly submit that not enough was said. I was aiming my previous comment about games that require an internet connection even for single player offline mode (if it is for anything other than achieving awards/achievements)

The fact that I turned OFF the internet connection should make this bullshit stop, but it doesn't. It's getting on my nerves.

Thanks for the big Fuck You, Sony. (1)

Can't play heavy Rain. Turning off the internet connection doesn't help. But hey, it works just fine on my neighbor's PS3 slim. No problems.

I did not update my system. Either this is a bug in the system software, or Sony did something to my hardware without me knowing it.

Knowing Sony and its history of rootkitting the hell out of everything, I'm really torn on where to draw the line. This reeks of force-phasing out fat PS3 models in order to force everyone to move to the slim PS3. After all, the hypervisor is cracked, smacked, and turned into swiss cheese. They advertised BC before. Oh, check the new Playstation website - they've removed ALL mention of backwards compatibility. Thank god for the Internet Archive.

But as it sits, I have a huge BRICK sitting next to my TV, and Sony is at fault for this. I have $2,000 worth of games, and I cannot play A SINGLE ONE, even single player games. Netflix isn't working, and I can't even play Blu-ray movies.

Sony has a very, VERY short time to answer for this. My fuse is lit and I'll smack them a THOUSAND times harder than I smacked EA.
