"Install Other OS" Feature removed from the PS3

Hann1bal (1134395) writes | more than 4 years ago

Hann1bal (1134395) writes "The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on April 1, 2010 (JST), and will disable the “Install Other OS” feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models, launched in September 2009. This feature enabled users to install an operating system, but due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.21 system software update."

Just what we need, Sony removing features from their systems. This sets a bad precedent; what if they decide to remove backwards compatibility with PS2 games on the systems that support it as well or no more PSN or PS3 games? Could that qualify as bad advertising?

By Security Concerns... (1)

no doubt they mean that someone successfully hacked the PS3s hypervisor. What a great way to fix that problem.

Bad Idea (1)

Wish I would have known in the past that they were doing this...I would have bought a 360 instead. The Install Other OS was the one feature that attracted me to the PS3...and if that is going away, then all I am left with is a game console :( Should have gotten a least then I'd have access to more games and a larger online community

Class Action (1)

Would it be possible to start a class action on this? Lots of people bought a ps3 for this listed feature that Sony is now taking away.
