Peppermint Ice Resuscitates an Elderly Thinkpad

DeviceGuru (1136715) writes "With desktop Linux distributions puffing up with compositing window managers that assume vast resources such terrabyte drives and multi-GHz, multi-core CPUs, and 3D-accelerated graphics engines, it's refreshing to see that a few Linux distros continue to address the resource constrained requirements of netbooks and older hardware. A review at LinuxTrends looks at one newcomer, Peppermint Ice, which keeps its footprint down by using the LXDE light-weight desktop environment along with chromium-based site-specific-browser implements of web-based applications, giving it a 'cloud OS' flavor. The article presents screenshots of the OS's desktop and menus and offers a few tweaking suggestions. With a new release due in a few weeks, Peppermint Ice looks to be a small footprint Linux distro with both an attitude and a future."
