Drug Catapult Found at US-Mexico Border

suraj.sun (1348507) writes | more than 3 years ago

Idle 2

suraj.sun (1348507) writes "Drug smugglers trying to get marijuana across the Arizona-Mexico border apparently are trying a new approach — a medieval catapult, capable of launching 4.4 pounds of marijuana at a time.

National Guard troops operating a remote video surveillance system at the Naco Border Patrol Station say they observed several people preparing a catapult and launching packages over the International Border fence last Friday evening.

The 3-yard tall catapult was found about 20 yards from the U.S. border on a flatbed towed by a sports utility vehicle, according to a Mexican army officer with the 45th military zone in the border state of Sonora."

Need to Do Better (1)

Forget that medieval stuff, they need to get themselves a drug mortar. That way they can be a mile or two away from the border and thus out of surveillance range of the national guard.

Nah, a mortar is a bad idea. Too much of a chance of burning the product. A gauss gun. That's the ticket. Set up a 53' tractor trailer with the accelerator and capacitors. Let the truck alternator charge up capacitors, and you can toss the payload for miles. The noise from the launch system won't be too bad, but the payload will make a sonic boom.

It's still most cost effective to give a guy a duffel bag, and have him walk across the border somewhere. The other obvious alternative is to have a small plane fly across the border at say 20 feet. Tossing the cargo during flight at the target zone, and flying back is quick, efficient, and not likely to get it shot down before it gets back to the border.

Of course, there are bigger connections who get permission fly over the border [] , and are completely ignored by law enforcement. With any drug war, those who make big money are threatened by those who try to infringe on their market. There are plenty of other instances. Try searching for "Cocaine One". Take the conspiracy crap off of what you find, and there's still a very ugly factual conspiracy at the core of it.
