By 2012 the tablet OS market will have solidified and leave little room for a newcomer.

Who is the target audience in the PC arena? Windows 7 users will have little reason to upgrade. Windows 7 came out 8 years after Windows XP and there's still a sizable user base on XP. Is MS hoping to get the remaining XP users with Windows 8? This announcement may inhibit XP fence-sitters from moving to WIN7 and instead wait for WIN8.
