NASA to end communications with Mars rover Spirit

coondoggie (973519) writes | more than 3 years ago

Mars 1

coondoggie writes "NASA today said it will make one last attempt on Wednesday to communicate with its long-lived Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, which last communicated with scientists on March 22, 2010.
NASA has been trying to communicate with Spirit via the agency’s Deep Space Network of antennas orbiting Mars satellites in the hope that it might reawaken when solar energy becomes more available as the planet moves out of winter. With inadequate energy to run its survival heaters, the rover likely experienced colder internal temperatures last year than in any of its prior six years on Mars."

I know I'm anthropomorphizing the Rover, but this makes me sad nonetheless.
