TSA Has Cancer-Stricken 95-Year-Old Remove Diaper

theodp (442580) writes "Respect for the Aged Day? The TSA don't need no stinking Respect for the Aged Day! If you thought the Transportation Security Administration couldn't possibly top themselves after giving a pat-down to a baby, think again. CNN reports that the TSA stood by its security officers Sunday after a Florida woman complained that her cancer-stricken, 95-year-old mother was patted down and forced to remove her adult diaper while going through security. Jean Weber said her mother is in the end stage of a battle with leukemia and was heading to visit her last living brother when she was detained for nearly 45 minutes. Security officials said they needed her mom to take off her diaper because it was blocking their search. 'She had wet her Depends and it gelled up,' Weber explained. Distraught and crying over her mother's treatment, Weber herself was reportedly subjected to a pat-down after her sobbing was construed as unusual behavior. 'We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure,' the TSA said in an emailed statement."

How about Respect for Everyone Day? (2)

The real story isn't about how the TSA mistreats those who can't stand up for themselves. The real story is about how the TSA mistreats all of the people who can stand up for themselves but don't.

Strip searching toddlers and cancer patients makes complete sense if you buy into the TSA's premise that there is a serious terrorist threat. If the TSA starts making exceptions for certain groups of people then its essentially announcing to the serious terrorists exactly who they need to recruit or at least co-opt in order to smuggle weapons on board.

The truth is there is no serious terrorist threat. If there were (and the TSA were any good at detering it in the first place) we'd see alternate targets getting hit instead. After all, a serious terrorist doesn't give up, go home and watch sunday night football just because they can't figure out how to blow up a plane. They go and blow up a shopping mall or a sports arena or a gay pride parade instead. Since that's not happening, its a pretty safe bet that the TSA ain't doing anything more than molesting millions of innocent people at a cost of billions of dollars a year.

What a long way the USA has fallen. Its on the ground politically, financially, socially and now morally. What other human virtue can they find to scrape the bottom of the barrel on?

What a profane country.
