Australia to get R18+ Games Rating

Antarius (542615) writes "Who says that common sense doesn't prevail? Well, with the Australian Government, I guess that is usually true. But finally, the games rating debacle seems to have an end in sight.

"The federal and state governments have reached an in-principle agreement to provide an R18+ rating for video games."

"Federal Justice Minister Brendan O'Connor welcomed the in-principle agreement saying it is a "big step forward in the long running debate on classification. The introduction of an R18+ classification for computer games will provide better advice to parents and help prevent children and teenagers from accessing unsuitable material."

Hopefully this leads to recently banned games like L4D2 and Mortal Kombat being released in Australia, now that we're not as afraid that our nation will become desensitised to violence against zombies or pixels."
